Sunspear Title Track (complete)
Legendary Shiz
Question. I'm going to say this is a dumb question, but the promo points are account based correct?

You can see it for yourself by logging onto another character, they don't have Sunspear points.
Reiden Argrock
ya, havn't checked another char to see if they have the rank, but like Kaguya said, there part of the progress so I imagine they are character based. As far as going for marshal title, just woke up, and I'll do my best

just because in FFXI you have to grind for months on some stupid spawn to get the item to grind more crafting skills to make the weapon
does not make the 4 repetitive hours spent chasing mobs around in GW any better.
GW maybe about the least menial game out there; low lvl cap and all that but there are still some things that seem like the devs got lazy.

See, I don't understand why people are going for r7 or even r6 if you don't get to keep the title. I thought it was going to be like lucky or unlucky titles.
That's pretty homo IMO...I'm at r5 and there's nothing to show for it. Kind of feels like I wasted my time.
No wonder I only play pvp.

No dumber than calling something you don't like "homo"...
Reason people are going for the higher ranks is to come back on forums and show people what the titles are called / how much it takes to get them. Or for personal pleasure; some people like reaching goals they set.

You want skales!? YES WE DO!
Go outside Jokanur Diggings to Farranur.. Get the blessing from the guy, walk where you normally go where that guy from the mission is (That guy running around all the time, you know him) And you will see what i mean, +-15Skales per 1min counts up.
Around 15 lvl 2 Skales are there.

Is it just me or does anything that takes a little work become "grind" to alot of players?

And yes, I understand the reaching goals. My goal was to reach r5. So when I did, I stopped with the event. I however was under the impression that we were going to get to keep the titles, that they were worth something. What's the point of reaching a goal if you have no way to prove it?
I guess I can understand them not letting you keep it, sicne basically everybody had r3. However, it is kind of frustrating that you spend all that time getting it and then you find out it's not going to stay.

I'm working on it, but I don't think I'm gonna get the 5k points this weekend tho

If the people with less the social lives can get 1000+ points in a few hours then 5k points is hardly going to be a challenge for those that rarely leave the house.
Reiden Argrock
so still working hard on it.. just wanted to update and add a few notes
firstly, as you level, scouts in early areas stop giving you the commision, meaning no blessing meaning no promo points, suckssorssss lol. Because of this i was worried that by lvl 20, wouldn't be able to get ANY points, but I was wrong, there are still a few zones that you can farm, the Bog down south, and then the two areas that are in the south eastern corner, higher level areas. So, it is possible, but it's slow going now.
heres my update, bout 30 hours or so to finish up

nice, hopefully you'll get in it time^^ one question tho: where do you farm the promo points?, It looks like you're in Zehlon Reach atm and you can't get any points from the scouts
I'm now at 1000 points, I think it's quite a big step, going from 1000 to 5000. maybe they should first just double it, then do 5000 but then again, I don't know if you get more points at the mainland

Funkblaust
In the full version I bet you will be able to get promo a lot faster. Rewards will probably raise to the hundreds and there will probably be more ways to get them besides quest rewards and grinding them for one kill one point. Hopefully there will be certain mobs that give you more points per kill.

Reiden Argrock
sultan would be cool.
That pic is just a pic, not where i farm. At lvl 20 theres only 3 zones with scouts that will bless you, Lahtenda Bog, Issnur Isles, and Mehtani Keys. I did most my early farming in the bog cause it's so cool there, but now I can only get blessings for the insects and skales, and you have to go aways before you get to them, so, wasn't really worth it anymore. Mehtani keys is kind of the same way although I don't think i've gone in there at 20, but I know they scout right by the exit won't bless me anymore and hasn't for a while. Issnur keys is the place to be, I've found a sweet run, 120ish points per run. Takes from 15-25 mins depending on the size of party. I'll get some shots up later, but for now, heres an update, and then to sleep for a bit.
I just know i'm gonna wake up and there will be marshals running all over the place lol...

so do I, hopefully you'll quickly get it^^
I think that the next tier will be at 15-20K tho, since they also did a x5 with the last(I know, 25....)

The highest rank in the Sunspear heirarchy is a Spearmarshal... maybe that's tier 8 after Marshal. Or perhaps they just made up a new one for people
Thundro
Dang, I know I'll never make it... I was away saturday. Thought I bet some people at Anet made bets about wether or not people would make a certain "goal".
I think it's a safe bet that someone will make the 5.000 sunspear mark.

Good luck getting your 5k...seems kind of pointless to be honest. Nonetheless, hope you get it.

The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs, in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill monsters, using basically the same strategy over and over again, in order to advance their character level to be able to access newer content. Grinding can also appear in other games in which features can be unlocked.

I dont understand people complaining about any grind in Nightfall. I believe the rank (7) is as high as 5000 just because getting it is not mandatory to progress. The next one may be even 20k and maximum at 100k (speculation)
Getting 500 or 1000 sunspear points is not grinding, it just comes on the way of levelling and developing a char through normal play. And its a fair system even when it prevents 'rushing'.

God.The people who are complaining about having to grind for Sunspear points are retarded.
I have over 1000 and my paragon isnt even level 20 yet.

also, woot, time to burn rubber, or skale if you prefer 900 to go

One of the chracters you encounter is the Spearmarshal and is talked about as being the highest rank of Sunspear.

according to wiki, the next tier is at 10K and is Sunspear Legend

This is just a new way to make players farm while saying you don't have to XP farm... *sigh*
I can also already see that armor costs too much material relative to what you get from salvaging, but not quite as badly as Factions. But it's still not as good as Prophecies.
It's not work. It's repetitive action.

Reiden Argrock
Wooooot!!
and to help out others, here are my runs...
first, the short way, brings in about 125 points per run, takes about 15 minutes with 8 man group
start by getting skale blessing, you shouldn't need to fight any insects till you get the insect blessing in the southeast corner, simple fast easy
longer run, brings in about 210 points per run, takes about 25-30 minutes with 8 man group
still only need to get the 2 same blessings you get in the short run, less loading makes them about the same points for time
Something I stumbled upon by accident...
this quest adds an extra 8 or so skale per run as long as you don't kill Mao'vu'Kaal, and with hero/hench commands just send them off to the side while you kill the weak ones, then continue on. These are counted in my numbers above.
Also, having a warrior with charge really speeds things up, and I tossed Splinter weapon onto one of my monks which wasn't alot but since I was using 3 monks, healing wasn't really a problem
All in all, I had a great time playing Nightfall, and even though promo points were somewhat of a grind, I really didn't get bored with it at any point.
I'll be selling tons of stuff for a while now, if anyone needs anything send me a whisper Chars name is Cinque Taranis, or you can add Reiden Argrock to friends

Get the point? Your tolerance for grind is not everyone else's tolerance for grind. Neither is your defnition. I don't care how big of an AC, EQ1/2, DAoC vet you were or what your experience was. It's not mine or others and it's also not relevant to us. Sorry to be a bit of an ass, but your over-the-top statement demanded an over-the-top-response. |
Well I'm sorry your tolerance is so low that killing a few silly bugs leads you to whining on guru. No Hot Food Haberno for you.
Btw, I'm absolutely lovely Nightfall, the whole package feels quality rpgish. Levelling is just right, meaning that we won't have too many level 20 dudes running around with no clue how to play their character... or will we
Love it so much I took a pic!

thanks liv von
also, seems nobody needs materials in game, so if anybody here needs any, whisper saying your from guru, and you get them free

Just posting to give you kudos on a job well done, Reiden Argrock. Congratulations on reaching Sunspear Marshall in such a short time, and thanks for sharing the information with the community. I got loaded with work this weekend, so I wasn't able to play as much as I would have liked, but I was very curious as to the next rank of the Sunspear title and a little worried that no one would post about it.
Polgara Darshiva
Something that I think has been missed in a lot of this complaining.
Who's to say the Sunspear title is specific to the Tutorial Island? Who's to say it doesn't extend to the main land as well?
Just a thought. Use it, Don't use it

I agree with ya Polgara, and I think others do as well, 10000 points for legend title is a bit extreme for only getting 1 point per kill. I believe we are sunspears throughout the duration of the game, so I expect quests to start giving more points once on the mainland, as well as blessing possibly giving 2 or 3 points for killing certain creatures. And if theres another title past legend.. well damn, it'll take along long time, if the island is the only place to get points..
also, thanks eohjay, sorry you've had to work so much
