Ok, maybe I've been lucky but I've never been scammed inside the UW in my GW playing career.
Always found good monks etc, and maybe this has been around for ages, but two monks in a row just attempted it, 1st succesful 2nd not.
I play SS Necro.
Anyway, enter the UW, split the cost. Do the usually, clear the chamber.
Anyway, then the Monk legs it through, past the Ataxes and into the smiters. I try to follow thinking WTF as he types "bye".
Obviously, he loses aggro, the mobs concentrate on me, and im dead. He then proceeds to solo the smiters in the hope of ecto.
I left, and was pretty annoyed.
Then, went in with a second monk. All went well, they he darted as well. This time i was more ready, and chased. I kept up with him, and then he left.
Anyway to stop this?
And, maybe co-incedence but both players Guild Tags were Oriental. So no idea what they said, but I wont be doing that with anyone with a Korean guild tag again.
Just wondering if this is common, and is there any way to combat it cos I cant think of one.

Yes its common, its one of the reasons I hate FOW armor. It has destroyed one of the coolest dungeon areas in the game.

This is very common..especially with asian monks.
They will even get you killed in the first chamber if you get ecto drops.
The only way to protect yourself is to go with someone you know...or at the very least...go with someone that speaks english.
A way you can tell if the monk you are with may be planning to hijack the run is to watch the monks casts.
If the monk doesn't use Spellbreaker and is using zealots fire and/or shield of judgement...the monk will most likely try to hijack the run.

When your looking for a 55 monk to duo dont pick the chinese ones, just pick ones that can speak english.

If a monk for instance uses SB but still has Zealots Fire, I suppose he could leave me but it would make it a lot more time consuming for him won't it?

on top of that. make sure your not the one pissing the monk off.
take for instance when i actually need a ss/sv necro (usually have more guildies/pm's than i know what to do with) i never ask.. i just wait for one that says he is a PRO or a LEET or somthing along those lines.
because most of the time they are not even in the slightest anything resembling a pro. so anyway. if they totally suck balls... IE: dont know how to stay back so i can aggro. and follow me to try to BR me etc.. i get kinda pissy and tell them to stop advertising as a pro.
On the flip side of your argument. i have had some necros pull aggro into me that is not wanted. or hold off on the finishing off of a group in hopes that i will die...
one event really stands out in mind.. i had pulled 2 groups of attax and 2 groups of squid in the first chamber and had killed 2 mares.. my sb was down. and i was tanking like i should have been.
the necro then proceded to run around looking to spawn a mare.. i told him not to because my sb was down and he ignored me.
he managed to pop a mare and i killed it the second it came into wanding range..
i was cussing the whole time he sat there.. after about 2 min of wating he finally began killing and when i had a path open.. i ran the remainder of the attax right into his ass......
moral of the story is dont fu#k with the people keeping you from a 1 hit death
but i just wanted to show you that although monks do it more.. necros can do it too..
thats why nowadays i usually take guidles or close pals..
but i usually take a ranger instead of a necro maybee some day people will understand why

once you've been with someone who wasn't a scammer ask if you can add them. if you didn't act like a complete noob the answer will be yes. pretty soon you will have a nice little partnership going on.

The best advice I can give ANYONE who does UW duo runs is to always go with a guildie or someone you have done runs with before if at all possible

heh, I just famine rangered uw for the first time last week, with a standard 55 too (never played with him before). Very good guy. What Im saying is UW random duo isn't dead, there are lots of good peeps out there, so don't let one bad experience (or 5) sour you on it. You may get scammed, but you'll hardly lose out in the long run is my opinion, since you'll meet more cool folks.

Thankfully, I don’t have to worry about partners anymore, I play with myself. I use to only go with friends, but that would screw with my sleep schedule (Sweden/Australia/Holland)... I could suggest doing it with a 600hp monk and you be the smitting prayers maintainer... if it runs off it cant do dmg...

Buy an additional copy of GW, buy a laptop. Party your own Monk/SS duo and enter UW and learn how to control 2 coms at once.
OR
Learn to solo with SB monk
OR
Duo with your friends.

These "Asian Monks" as you called it are the worst of the Sweat shop Farmer monks in reality.
To maximize the profit of ecto farming, they carry a necro in to pay some of the cost, then ditch them at the aataxes to Smite farm.
Simple solution is only go with ENGLISH SPEAKING monks. This minimizes how many of these you run into.
You can read up on asian gold farming companies in many magazines and such. Even the PC Gamer with the Grey Giant code has a little article in it, where some of the more honest gold farmers talk about how most of them are like this, disrespecting other gamers.

I have yet to duo farm UW. I have however, trio farmed UW with trapping. It's a lot harder to scam a person when all three players need the other two to be effective.

2) they say nothing once you are in the party and instantly open the trade window
3) tatoo armor, MOST causal farmers/actual players don't like the looks of tatoo armor and have since bought factions in order to get new monk armor with +energy that is more asceticly pleasing.
People who still have tatoo armor are either
a) people who don't own factions
b) people who are poor
c) people who like the tatoos
d) sweatshop farmers who don't care about character customization, but about profit
A) and B) are also generally bad signs. I'd perfer a 55er who is as obessed with this game as I am and thus owns both campaigns. Also, a 55er who is poor obviously hasnt' been 55ing for long... So A and B are more inexperience indications then anything else.

Most guild have at least one 55 monk with Spellbreaker. The best way to avoid a scam is to go in with a Guildie you trust, or a person who's been on your friend's list for awhile.

I have an SS Necro and refuse to do two man teams with 55s in the UW anymore. Most I've met are genuinely nice guys, but the rare few that are scammers and general assholes have turned me off to doing it ever again. I've got enough gold to keep me satisfied and don't need the frustration.
PS - I have a monk with tattoos (not a 55) also because I like the look. Sorry, HawkofStorms, but you're waaay off.

The reason I wear tatoo armor is simple - I have grown used to it. I mean, I *have* been wearing it for well over a year now. One more reason is that I consider them "farming armor" of my monk. When she's not farming, she slips back into her comfy 15k kurzick jacket and 15k saintly pants.
In order to combet this kind of generalization it would be nice to add a new title track based on expirience. Say, 1 rank in title for every million xp.

i've had monk tats since the game came out basically. extra energy for the win. that extra bit of armour will prolong my life for about 1,3 seconds. although some nerd now will come out with the stats. actually 37 dps at 60 AL will give you blah blah blah.

My /mo has more than twice that But every time I try to solo, there's an Asian soloer in my group that takes all my loot :S
Anyways... go with a friend/guildie, not only will you be assured of loot splitting etc, but you'll be more co-ordinated and be able to complete a smoother run.

I suggestion find one or more monks -- friend, guildies, family -- who you know and trust, and work with them exclusively. 55/SS UW runs require trust and coordination that usually isn't possible with random strangers.

Yeah, I ve had loads of scammers and still am doing it... you cant do anything about it, but bit of advice to you...
Dont give 500g to something that doesnt have a guild tag and doesnt say anything else but, 50/50 and pay me. ( bot)

This almost happened to my brother once, he called me down to have a look at the 55hp monk he was with (was asking me why he was acting funny) , i twigged just as the monk tried to kill him, we ran back and forth between the attaxes and smites for about 25 mins, the monk was swearing at me for the entire duration, if you know anything about running and agrro control you can easly avoid a single hit, eventually he gave up and we finished the run, oh yeah, i could have bit the 500g and done a run and and a half by then, but its the principal :P
