Is Guildwars coming to an end?

Good christ, if you don't want to play Guild Wars then DON'T. Guild Wars is not "ending" just because you personally may have run out of neat things to do or got bored.
I bought Guitar Hero and played through it. I loved it. Had lots of fun. When I got to the end, did I freak out and say "oh noz, guitar hero is dying!" or did I just find another game to play?
Jeeeez. Enjoy the game or quit the game, I don't care which, just pick one.

personally i see nothing wrong with ending the indefinate priced items with cool skins and perfect mods. they are fixing the economy. it is near the same as what happened when they changed from the constant increase and decrease of runes/materials. you could buy low and at a different time sell high. they are allowing more players to be able to afford good items for both pve and pvp.
with the change to heros ascent i am all for it. there is kind of a general progression in the game lower arenas(not so much any more but still somewhat), then random arenas, team arenas, heros ascent, gvg
with the change now to 6v6 it will be a change for team size. guild battles will be drastically different from heros because of the size change. it will still be an effective tool in progression though. also im not sure where 1/3vs1/3will fit in for build skills. probably focus more on developing builds rather than team work. so probably some where arroung Ra/Ta
im looking foward to these changes. there will always be ways to make cash and if you cant adapt you don't belong trying to manipulate/play with economy in the first place

lol i really dont egt the point in making more then 1 thread like this. They should merge all the threads and title it "Cry me a river thread!"
I mean honestly, if they kept the game the same that would get boring and repel everyone. Its like saying keep the same songs playing on the radio and never get new ones, itas boring and dumb. I like all the changes, its something new to the game and not the same old boring thing.
Changes are good and make the game stay fun rather then having the SoS that would be getting as old as the players complaining about it.
ADDED: The game is definetly not ending its on the verge of getting even better. Lets hope your negativaty can end.

i look forward to some changes, and think others could pose some issues.
i just hope that whatever anet does, they do it right, and not adopt the "damn the consequences" mindset.
for example; the heros i think will add an interesting new element to the guildwars gameplay, but at the same time, could lead to the downfall of the ever so rare skilled PuG that leads to numerous new additions to your flist and sometimes guild roster. they could also cause the "OMG MY HERO BUILD IS BETTER THAN YOURS!" arguments. i just hope anet considered the downsides to new implimentations, kept them in mind, and developed a system to keep the fallout to a minimum should something go wrong.
i tend to adopt a mindset of "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." most game companies dont activly initiate stuff that will ruin their games, they do it by accident.
so while i welcome the idea of some changes, i just hope they get it right.

As others have said, change is necessary. If you dont like change then maybe you shouldnt be playing an MMO because these types of games are ALWAYS changing. If you dont like change and are easily depressed by them then yes maybe you should quit.
I never understood why people make threads like these. It's basically saying, "I dont like the changes so I'm going to threaten to quit." If you're going to quit, then just do it. Dont make a sob story about. The people who do stay won't care one bit.
I mean just look at the title of this thread. IS GW coming to an end? Give me a break.
I DUB THIS A FLAMEBAIT THREAD!

As for with my guild, we do all kinds of events, eg. green capping, exploration, bonus master for the protector titles, FoW/UW non 55/SS runs, and so on. Some people might think this is fun and I have to higly recommend it to everyone.

The new salvage option if it is what most people think it is will kill the inherent mods market, people will always buy gold items with a low req and a nice skin for over 100k. Its just the way of the game.
And Factions did bring about many changes, such as +5 energy weapons anyone?
Killed the HoD market which was insanely ridiculous.
I have been playing GW since it was released and these will not stop me from playing.

QFT on slashing and I've never personally seen one that does Chaos Damage, I know its a bit crap but I was given it when I started playing as my original axe was even crappier and it's got sentimental value, plus I managed to kill a quite a few charr with it

akhilleus beat me to it.
but that's the funniest thing ever, chaos axe does chaos dmg. haha, no offense. But it proves one thing about this game which I love. No matter what skin, they do the same dmg. You do not NEED rare skin. rare skin only COOL when they're are RARE. If you can make any gold ...(insert skin) a 15^50, then that skin is not RARE nor COOL any more. Why people like crystalline? cause it looks nice? um...what about brute sword, ugliest crap ever. why people want it? cause it's RARE. If you've being wanting a 15^50crystalline sword all your gw life, and now you can get it for cheap. But you will want want it. it's not RARE nor COOL as it used to be. When items have no rarity, there is no point in trading, no goal in item collection. That will RUIN the point of rare skin. Note that does not ruin the economy. But in the end, when you can get an item that you always wanted for cheap, you will not be any happier, because that item has lost its value to everyone, including yourself.

ArenaNet most likely thought, WOW, 6Vs6 was such a great event! But really.. People only played it because of the double fame.
And about the Inscriptions. We dont know WHAT Inscriptions are going to be yet. We didnt have an official announcement by Anet that it actually was the 15^50 type of thing.

This is the case in all games where strong communities have become intertwined within and outside of the game. People become so attached to the game with all of everything they may have mentally or physically gained in the process, only to feel cheated by change. My advise: Don't fret.

For the 6v6, I could care less. I gave up on that place long ago because of all the elitist pricks anyway. It was truly one of the worst communities I've seen in any game, and another reason I'm happy to see Nightfall have a stronger PvE foucs.
For new salvage options, I'm all for them. The 100k+1750E thing has gone way too far. Half of the stuff these people try to sell is rubbish, unidentified or otherwise. The other half, while good, certianly isn't "spend three months farming to afford" quality. Seems too many have forgotten that this is a game.

I've been with GW for over 15 months now and I don't see any reason to leave. There are a lot of new features in Nightfall that are rreally intriguing, so if any reason, I have more reason to stay.
As for the 6v6 and such, I think some people are overreacting quite a bit, but if that's how they wanna be, I don't really have any love lost for their leaving, so long as GW continues to have many friendky people to play with.

first off, I love this game.
that said, it is frustrating to see changes, clearly aimed at levelling the playing field, but infact impacting on what makes the game a 'challenge', 6 vs 6, reduces the team dynamic and thus your options, salvaging changes again reduce the rarity of drops and thus their value
But surely the whole idea is to have a series of increasingly difficult challenges within the game to create interest. currently it is double this and that weekends, how long before its get your fow armour weekends.
these are short term crowd pleasers, personally I think it cheapens the game
did i mention I love the game.

In answer to the title of the thread: Yes, for some. And I'll be glad when they're gone. If people leave because they're no longer having fun, well, that's a good decision. Why play a game if you're not having fun? We who still enjoy the game don't need a bunch of sourpuss's hanging around complaining about everything.
Besides, as long as you don't sell off everything and transfer your account to someone, you can always come back later when you have that good ol' Guild Wars itch. That's the great part about it being on Anet's servers, it's always there for you.
No hard feelings.
P.S. I'm not "telling" anyone to leave. So please, no misunderstandings.

I have heard here and on other boards that changes were needed for HA even when it was at the old TOPK.The maps need updating and who knows about the rest.it could be the Anet is just trying to make it easier for others to get more fame. When it comes to salvage I haven't read that entire thread but what would be the purpose behind it.I think HA might be exciting for those in pvp it certianly gives diversity.I wasn't thinking on getting NF and holding out for C4 when it comes out but it seems like NF won't be that.I would suggest a wait and see what others have to say.I don't think GW is coming to an end what do you think when you see your char standing there at log in screen.

It was more of a spontaneous and immediate change that doesn't seem well thought out or even close to resembling something the community wanted, imo.
Seems to me that Anet just makes rash decisions that are based on simple truths i.e people not playing in HA, a skill being "better" or "over-powered" then others.
Seems like Anet just comes up with the simplist of answers to try and make everyone happy without regard to the whole picture.
It's very difficult to be in touch with a community as large as this one, but there should be a way to manage changes like this that gets anet more in touch with its players.
My thought, is to have the players make the changes. Anet proposes a change and the players send in their vote per account, or vice versa, the players petition for a change that can be voted on.
PROS
1.Players actually know ahead of time changes that are to be put into effect.
2.Players get to decide what is best for them, within limits.
3.Players become more involved with the games interior designs.
4.Players have an input in things that are implemented into the game.
CONS
1.People want different things.
2.Multi accounts would cause many problems with voting.
3.Anet doesn't have to listen.
lord_shar
Guild Wars won't be coming to an end unless its unique no-subscription business model fails. If GW loses more money than it makes once maintenance costs are factored in, then the GW servers will eventually shut down. However, their model looks like it is working well so far. The agressive 6-month product release cycle is enough to keep GW's afloat for quite a while, so long as customers continue supporting the product. Players will always come and go, but GW will be here a while so long as it maintains a stable and sizable customer base.
calikingjosh
The facts are simple. Some will love the changes, some will hate them, and some just won't care. Changes are made to this game all the time...I thought that was the big thing....streaming updates. Things can change and adapt at a rapid pace. Also I noticed some saying that adding missions and such wouldn't keep people interested....Sorrows Furnace anyone? Last time I checked it was still full most always. Change happens. There will always be new people to get into the game, and some leaving, it is just the way these types of games work. I myself am dying to grab up Nightfall! It looks like an excellent new chapter. I didn't hear anyone complaining about the controlability of the new heroes. Love it or leave it.
I LOVE IT!

You see collectors of rare skinned and perfectly modded weapons as elitists. I see people like you as wanting everything to be easy and expect Anet to give you handouts.
Keep the rarity weapons and built in mods, Anet. The only reason people complain is because they jealous and don't want to put the time into obtaining them. Collector weapons and greens have already ensured a good balance in the game which is really what is important.

The most popular skins like Crystalline, Fellblade, Chaos Axe, Zodiacs, etc will still cost more due to higher demand, and cost more on top of that in proportion to the availability as drops... it's not like salvaging Inscriptions will make every weapon suddenly only be worth 100 gold and make the weapons economy nonexistent.
I agree with people who have said that if people want to quit because they can't justify selling something for 100k+300 ectos anymore after we can salvage Inscriptions, it's not much loss to the community if certain people quit over that. It's not a large percentage of players that would quit over such a thing, and for players who would quit over it, it just means they weren't having fun playing the actual game anymore, and quitting at that point makes sense. That's not directed at anyone in particular or meant as an insult, just agreeing that it's Guild Wars and not Trade Wars or Price Wars

I actually prefer the katana skin and you know what? I see that less then fellblades so by your reckoning that katana should be much higher valued yet anyone can buy one for a few K at Kaineng Center.
In other words, the whole argument is specious and silly.
Quote:
Why stop there? Lets set the price of runes and all crafting materials to 1 gold so that everyone can have everything with practically no effort. For some of the more devoted players, obtaining those rare skinned items is the only thing out there that creates a sort of challenge to the game. |
The market at traders is based on supply and demand, the market you are talking about is the penis size market.

I really hate those who saids, "let them leave" "i'm glad they're gone". Those are truly childish comments. Whenever one player leaves this game, it's a lost for the game and its community. I just lost someone to pvp with, someone to do mission with, someone to trade with. You glad someone is gone just because he plays or thinks differently than you? That is selfish and immature. While anet cannot please anyone, anytime an update that causes some player to leave is bad. It is our reponsibility as a community to either get anet to reverse the change or to reason and discuss with those players who want to leave. Please stop those kind of comments, the next nerf can piss you off and cause you to leave the game.
FFW
Its very simple: Anet needs to sell games, so they make it easy to gain max level. This already happened in Factions, a lot of xp for quests. Then they added a lot of greens and collectors with perfect stuff to keep the noobs happy. Still it isnt enough, the noobs want rare golds. Green isnt good enough any more, so they add salv damage mods. Its getting worse and worse. Hardcore players are no core business for Anet, 12 year olds that want game for birthday are. I see all off u say its such a good thing, well maybe for most people playing gw it is. Friends of mine play WoW and told me GW is for noobs. It hurts me to say it, but I get the feeling they are right..

Nobody stays forever with a game, its called turnover or churn and its normal and accepted. You lost someone? Find a new mate to play with, its not that hard, lots of good, nice people out there and more join everyday.
De Wilde
Remember the following:
You cannot please all of the people all of the time.
It's the truth of things like this, and especially in a game like Guild Wars. There will always be someone who is not happy with a change coming through, something added, something detracted, something downgraded or upsized.
You will always have the negatives to go along with the positives, and while the changes so far in this thread are warmly welcomed for the most part; there are those who will never say one way or another (These are the true good people of any game). Those who say nothing at all, who either stick around and try it or leave quietly, and not do the /rage quit of the century.
I welcome the changes that A-Net are putting forth, because it shows that they are still trying to work, still trying to get to that one penacle where people go "Oh hey cool!" It may never happen though.
So to A-Net: Bring on the changes
To players: Remember, A-net -is- a company after all; and their target group is rather huge. Much larger than most target areas, including Roleplaying books, Magic the Gathering Cards, and other things such as that. A-Net has the casual player, hardcore player, RP player, PVE player, PVP player so on and so forth. Including that most folks won't pay monthly fees, that base even grows higher.. They can't please everyone, maybe you should all just try to see if you like it, and not be all gunho until then.
As I've told my son before, try it before you decide you don't like it, you never know.
It got him to eat meat after all.. >.>

From my perspective, I see things as a challenge. Being able to start from ground zero when I bought the game over a year ago and working my way up to rare items is a great part of this game and other MMO's. Think about it this way. If everyone on earth had the same sports car, the same 10 bedroom house, and the same pool in their backyard, what would be the motivation to go to work? We would no longer look at car magazines and think "Wow, I want to buy a car like that someday." Variety is the spice of life. So is the challenge in obtaining those things.
If you are happiest with collector skinned weapons then why in the world are you in favor of this change? Since you seem to be so focussed on the idea of items representing your manhood, then perhaps you secretly harbor feelings that your e-penis is threatened by others obtaining "rare" items.

Change is good.
