They're just now releasing that? I remember Gaile telling us about it a long long time ago....

You could use that to isntantly unlock skills for heroes too.

Well here's where she announced it if anyone really cares.

I just hope their next step is not charging ppl twice for pvp and pve content of the same chapter

^If someone already bought the regular (pve) copy of the game, they can unlock things themselves. If they choose to buy it rather than just earning it, that's their choice. I don't think it's fair to say Anet is charging twice for the same content when all they're doing is providing another option for pvp'ers that don't like to have to pve to unlock things.

They are not charging twice for anything. The PvP packs are completely optional. So vote with your wallet and don't get it.

The previously available unlock packs still required you to own the chapter. These new pvp versions are the chapter and unlocks together for pvp only.

I'd like to see store updates seperated from main updates.

Forcing us to leave can get annoying. Esp when you're at a 9 win streak then that message pops up.

39.99 for the PvP side?.....

Talk about way to expensive, for just ten bucks more you could buy the entire game.

I'd say they should reduce this price to around 25 dollers, mostly because I'm a money-grubber....

Nobodies going to pay 40 bucks for the PvP version, when they could buy the entire game for 10 dollers more, its almost a waste of money.

Think of it this way: If you only play PVE, then logically, you should only have to pay ten bucks. The PVP part costs 40, PVE+PVP costs 50, therefore, 50-PVP=10. I eagerly await my pve only nightfall at the bargain price of ten whole dollars!

idk silly warrior, it includes complete unlocks of all skills across the professions, so people who have no interest in PVE and just like the competition, it actually saves money and time. Its easy access, you pay for that, and it seems reasonably priced. Got to have that choice, and ponder if its worth it. Good business if you ask me. 30 to 35 dollars would make a little more sense though, but I'm not NCsoft's business dept.

Plus, to be completely honest, what does ANET have to lose, its not like its damaging normal game content (and hope it stays that way ), they can get a few more people playing on this. I dont mind it one bit. I'll continue to buy the full game since I'm a PVE fan *whoops used a bad word lol* and one of the ones that actually enjoyed Factions thoroughly, so ANET can do no wrong lol.

No, we're not going to start splitting out PvE and PvP and sell them separately; that's not at all what the PvP Edition is about. This is a choice, an option, and one that has been requested since Day One. As everyone says, "Choice is good."

I sure understand your concern, and we apologize for the inconvenience, but uploading a new build affects the full game, and everyone in the game, even if they never visited the affected region or used the online store. Again, sorry for the interruption.

It's not just about what you get, but how it is provided, as well. You are correct, you can purchase the full game for just $10 more. But the PvP Edition is not just a PvP version of the game, this is instant unlock of all skills. For that, it's not over priced at all, and in fact, the cost is right in line with what many players commented would be the correct price to pay.

Your logic is flawed. The PvP pack would be the price of the skills (whatever that would be) + a price for saving time capturing the skills + a price for saving time obtaining the money to buy non-elites and Signets of capture + a price for saving time getting all the skillpoints necessary to get the skills + a price for saving the time it would take to get enough Balthazar's Faction to unlock them.

So no, PvE isn't just worth $10.

And that's why it's not a waste of money to those that are passionate about PvP but don't want to have to deal with PvE or have to deal with the time it takes to get enough Balthazar's Faction to get all the skills. There's more to it than just the obvious seperating PvP from PvE. It saves time in exchange for costing money.

Edited to add:

Gaile beat me to it. I'm sad now and going to eat a box of chocolate chip cookies cause -

Holy Hell! Someone, quick, I need 200 CC's of sarcasm detection for this patient, STAT! Although, for the sake of trolling...

The time you spend on playing a game has no monetary value. No one's paying you for it. Unlocking skills costs exactly nothing, as the time you spend doing it is worth no dollars. See, the "time spent farming money or faction" is worth... $0, the time spent running to the priest is worth... $0, the time getting skill points is worth... $0. No one's going to pay you for those, so they don't cost money. Now, if the PVE version didn't unlock things for pvp, you'd have a case.

The best you get is comparing your salary to the arbitrary value Anet decided on for the unlocks... which really doesn't get us anywhere, since the unlocks don't actually cost anet a dime. it costs them no more to store ones in a database than it costs to store zeros.

Now that I'm done trolling, I think the pvp packs should cost a lot less than they do, and the pve content ought to stay at full price, since the pve is a superset of pvp. Pay less money, get less stuff , eh? Instead, we have pay more money, get .... the same stuff, just faster. No thanks anet, I, and the places I allow to employ me, decide the value of my time. I'll be getting the full pve version, and spending whatever time I see fit on it. Which, of course, is the whole point. I get a mostly fixed value of "fun" per unit time spent playing.

Is there any word yet as to whether the Nightfall PvP version will be released at the same time as the full game? If so, I might be tempted just to buy that instead.

Well i admit its a pretty good deal.....if i just started and didnt already have the full game id buy it. Ahhh i can see it now.......40 dollars gets you a PVE only account with 1 lvl 20, 5 greens and 100k. That...would be awsome(i know its prolly not gonna happen lol)

Well, I bought it but it doesn't appear to be fully functional right now, or indeed functional at all. The As & Rt skills show unlocked at a Priest of Balthasar, and I can create a new PVP character that's an As or Rt, but none of their skills are available on the skill selection screen.

Also, a person's time is most certainly worth money, not even taking into account their salary. Each person has a limited amount of time and so any activity they do has an opportunity cost associated with it, representing what they could have been doing with their time instead. This opportunity cost can be translated to money, and is the reason I didn't buy the full version of Factions at this point. Paying $40 is worth more to me than spending the time grinding skills when a new chapter is about to be released.
