Someone in my guild found this out and doesnt know what to think of it. I saw it and didnt know what to think so i am putting it on here.
It in the southern area of Arid Sea if you want to find him. He says " This Portal Leads to the Desolation, a deadly wasteland shrouded in poisonous sulfur mists. You do not have the means to survive in such a place so I cannot grant you passage"
Does anyone know if he leads you to something or is it just a dead end?

I seem to remember reading there were two bonus Heros (one from Prophecies, one from Factions) you could aquire if you had the original games. Perhaps thats related?

it seems like this is the entrance to the area where you have to ride the wurms. That was the info we got before, a really toxic land where you can only survive in a wurm, so you have to first do a quest to get a wurm u can ride before enetring there.

It did say things will pop up or change somehow in proph and factions area as nf unviels itself. (not word for word but translated +doesnt say when/if this actually happens.)

According to NF Manuscripts, there is a hero called Razah. Who, from what i understand, is not human at all but a being from somewhere call The Mists.
Now is the mists an afterlife place? I'm not sure. But could it be him that waiting for you in Desolation. I'm just guessing, don't take my words for it.

I believe you ride inside the wurm. That's how you are protected from the poisonous atmosphere.

well, i think that you need to get wurm before entering into that place..the desolation i mean..to get a wurm, you need to do quests for the queen wurm and get her favour..then she will grant you a wurm to ride with to get through the sulfur/acid in the desolation..

Could be used for a quest/future quest. It would not be a gateway to Elona because all you have to do is take the boat to Elona.

He had the key installed, but it wasn't "live". This was at around 9 pm pdt and nightfall didn't go live till 10:30. No idea what it's all about really, but yeah i do know it goes to the poison place. I also know you get to "drive" the worms around, with thier heads sticking out of the sand.

Yes, the Desolation is the Worm area.
Also, this kinda leads me to believe that there is going to be a time when quests will be present for people who own both Prophecies and Nightfall that will take place inside the Crystal Desert.

Interesting, I wonder if there are more areas like this or if there are more npcs in tyria...perhaps in the wilds area or mineral springs perhaps....this makes me want to re-explore all the areas again.
