/Signed, great idea... nothing is worse than having to repeat a build over and over to PUGs

Great idea! But is it alright if we have 3rd party program that malipulate the build files? Say...create builds without the actual GW program.

You can just put the "code" in your vent comment and then select that person's vent name and chose to "copy comment" option. Thats what I've seen some people do. Although I guess not everyone uses vent and this option would be easier than copying comment, opening up my computer and getting to gw template folder and making text file and pasting, so I suppose it could still be a worthy addition.

Although I'd much rather them make it so equipment templates save all 4 weapons instead of just 1 first x_x... then we can worry about trading templates.

True Yanman, It is idd a simple transfer option but that's not what i was trying to explain.
Should the millions of templates (coz thats how many it will be) be stored on the server you can only create manjor lag with it.

Follow with me here.
2 million players average yeah?
each have around 20 templates easily
that's 40 million templates that need to be stored.
add trading those templates to it means that duplicates will be created only increasing that number of templates to be stored.

I myself have already 22 templates in my folder and that's only for 3 of my 8 characters.
See where i'm going at?

I didn't say it's a bad idea, i actually love it, hence my sign, but you need to take the consequences into account.
Now the templates get stored on your HD meaning they create no extra data on the server thus leaving gameplay as it is.
And you must agree that with NF lag has increased 10-fold already

I'm not saying they should be stored on the server.

I've come across 2 security issues in regards to the new ability to share Build Templates via email. Recently I sent an email to a younger member of my guild, with a template attached, and witihn 24 hrs I hd received an email from a very concerned parent of that player. They wanted to know who I was and why I was emailing their young child (10-14) with an attachement that had a random string of characters. Two thoughts came to mind, firstly that now with online games abundantly available, so is the ability for online predators to use these games as a medium to seek out victims. Secondly, sharing the templates through email also opens up the receiver to malicious viruses and trojans that could be deliberately or accidently sent through. Virus checkers while helpful as they are, still can not block 100% of viruses.

My proposal is this, GW development make it possible for players to transfer build templates through the Open Trade window, therefore keeping all players secure from online harm.

The templates are freakin' text files!

Paranoid or over anxious parents aside, why should ANet go to any great lengths to make an in-game Template sharing protocol?

Geez, give me an Auction House first.

Every geek freak that owns a PC has an Instant Messenger and/or e-mail, sending and receiving a text file that's 1kb in size ain't that hard to do!

If ANet had unlimited resources, I'd say sure why not, but really this is completely unnecessary.

PS: if a surly mod hadn't closed the original thread, I would have put my rant over there.

I would prefer it if it was implemented as a string of code eg:

WMF859RSF7E

Asumming if it isnt like that already/exist?

The code would represent the class, skills and items(pvp) used for the build and can be quickly copied and pasted on most medium eg. ingame chat/forums/IRC/AIM/MSN/vent etc and easy to input without having to physically transfer any files be it only text files still. Code limit keys should preferably not exceed 12 characters, with the option of keying in the code directly into the "template" option.

Edit: After looking at Yannan's diagram for a few times, i think we are talking about the same thing but he prefers if there was a direct ingame template sharing/trading option which helps limits who you want to share it with. (please correct me if i am wrong) while i proposed a open system without a limiting factor which may/maynot be prefered with its own advantage/disadvantages.

My Necro Minion Master build:

AUNARFb6UFOqTBqAaAoqIwDA

It's just a text file with that string.
