DirectSong FAQ
<Regis>
I am having trouble with directsong playing. I have the little yellow triangle reffering me to the troubleshooting site. I have tried all of the suggestions there as well as completely deleting all directsong files and reinstalling them, I have upgraded to IE 7 and media player 11. I have even gone so far as to delete and reinstall GW. still no help. Could anyone here offer some assistance please.
EternalTempest
Make sure you can listen to them in Windows Media Player.
If they to play.
Re-download the music installer packs and install them to a different directory. Example, if there want to install in the My Documents/Music/DirectSong, change it to another location, the guild wars directory for example and install all the music to that new location.

Thanks Eternal, reinstalling to its own directory worked, I am in your debt

Please follow the same advice I gave the first troll.
Not to mention that I would just love to have a paycheck from DirectSong, but unfortunately that won't happen anytime soon.

Update - DirectSong as Release GWEN SoundTrack
I've partially updated the guide to reflect that it retails for $9.99 in the US.
Will see if the new track sheet gets updated, and verify the bit rate, number of tracks, etc.
Also planning on reformatting / cleaning up the guide... any suggestions / comments.

Put up a notice that DirectSong's In-Game playback is broken for Vista.
EDIT: I take that back.
You have to use the RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe file from the FTP server in your DirectSong directory. IT took a couple of tries but it worked.
The thing that I tried that was different from the last time I tried and failed with that register program was that THIS time I ran it as administrator.
In vista its usually Rightclick > Run as Administrator. That was probably the difference.
Unless a recent update to GW changed that. Last time I tried, the DirectSong logo wouldn't light up, but now it lights up.

Another work around I found, for at least getting the DS registered to the system (instead of using RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe), is install the Sorrow's Furnace pack 1st, it using the old installer which makes all the registry entries in Vista correctly, and all the other ds will know where to install / properly update the registry.
Omega X
Well, I never used that method because the installers had problems finding the flash player last time.

I have some problems with directsong and vista, by using the manual installatation and the register program I can get the Sorrows Furnace and battle paks to work fine. I can't however get the factions and nightfall CE bonus music to work.
the directory structures seem different any ideas? For example the sorrows furnace and battle paks are folder which contain all the music, these are then placed in my direcsong folder ie: direcsong/battle pak one or directsong\sorrows furnace pak.
the factions folder is like this direcsong/GWF01E\directsong\......music
I have tried changing them to no avail
Can some please help me with this
Thanks.

something.dll
GuildWars.ds
Album 1 folder
Album 2 folder
Album 3 folder
etc
You may have to re-run the DS packs to a new location / folder, and make sure all following DS packs install to that new location.
User/Music/DirectSong is a good location or try installing it to the Guildwars root folder in program files.
It sound like it created sub folders
so if you have
folder\Directsong\album
and folder\Directsong\something\Directsong\album
Move the "album" back to the root of the 1st Directsong
I can post an example of the file structure, when I get home.
TyrianFury
The problem with the Factions bonus music is that all the songs are in a folder called directsong which is a sub folder of GWF01e. I have copied all the songs into the GWF01e folder and run the register program but it wont pick them up. They would look like this at the moment:
Guild Wars\Directsong\GWF01e\directsong\.....then the songs.
The Battle pak directory structure is like this:
Guild Wars\Directsong\Guild Wars Battle Pak One\....then the songs
The factions pak has a subdirectory called directsong. I downloaded the zipped versions since the flash downloader won't work in windows vista, least I can't get it to work. All ds file is the latest aswell.
Guild Wars\Directsong\GWF01e\directsong\.....then the songs.

Ghost Knight

Download this file, http://www.directsong.com/zip/GuildWars.txt
then rename it GuildWars.ds
There is one bug / error in (affects Factions / Cantha and a song not playing) see Sparticuz post above.
The one missing the [ braket seems to be fixed, but the one that missing the 15_~~~~ is still not fixed.

They updated the ds file today so that it includes the songs for GW:EN. I havn't had time to check to see if the bugs have been fixed (or more introduced). I'll look at it more closely this weekend.

Did they correct the typos in the DS file or is it still the same ol, just with the GWEN score?
EternalTempest
They fixed thew two bugs as well as adding the Gwen score.
Sparticuz, thank you for that link that gale posted on decoding the trigger sheet. I added the link in the guide.

I just bought the Tyria and GW:EN music, but it won't let me burn to a CD saying that I don't have burn rights. Any idea what is going on? I thought I was supposed to be allowed to burn 1 copy since I did buy it.
EternalTempest
You may have to contact DirectSong support. According to them, OST has burn rights, while other's (SF, CE packs) do not.
I don't have burning rights, yet I've seen others have burning rights. I want to say they changed the permissions since it's release... or something is messed up with the drm.
I love your avatar btw xshadowwolfx.

RELOAD911
I have the same problem, my WMP11 doesn't want to download DRM whatever I do. Did everything according to support threads and still no result.
EDIT: Problem has been successfully solved by cleaning up the DRM directory.

Edit - Since I've moved over to vista as a primary OS now, I've updated the troubleshooting steps for getting DS to install on Vista.
Any sugestions for this guide for a revsion, I would like to do one more good final copy (assuming there no new change with Direct Song & GW 1).

Anyone know if the script only works with DirectSong musics? Or can we change the content of the file and change the music for any other kind of music that is not from DirectSong we wanna listen? Thank you.

Whenever I try to download my license i get a script error. I've enabled everything. Added direct song to trusted list, lowest security and everything. I think it's character 22 line 8.

I wrote a tool a while back which allows you to edit the DS file through a GUI. As the question of modifying the ds file still comes up from time to time, and I realised whilst sorting my HD the other day I never actually released it, figured I'd mention it here in-case anyone is interested.
http://cid-c8c89e6d54dda753.skydrive...listEditor.zip
It requires the .NET Framework 2.0, and I have no idea how well it will work on anyone's comp other than mine. Still if you don't feel like manually modifying the ds file feel free to give it a try. It uses the information posted in Ekelon's (hope you don't mind) '[DIRECT SONG] Music Mixing Guide for Guild Wars' thread to provide the name of locations each token refers to where available.

Thank you for taking the time and energy in creating this program. I will be updating the guide to point to your above post, or if you want me to put a link else where, let me know.

Thanks, glad you find it useful. Feel free to link to it however you feel is best.
If you or anyone else for that matter find any problems with it/have any suggestions feel free to pm me. I can't promise I will have time to work on it anymore as I'm rather busy with uni work at the moment, but I will certainly have a look.

Oh wow, that's really nice! It would be really cool if you could finish it! Maybe I might get back into Guild Wars this weekend and research up some more of the tokens to help you out with it, if you're up for it.

I'll look into adding some more tokens, got a few other minor changes I want to make to the application as well (improve the search feature a bit). It would be great if you have the time to find the locations of some more tokens Ekelon, I will certainly add them if you do.
[Edit] Hmm just found a rather major bug which meant it doesn't work correctly. Fixed it now but I'm gonna hold out uploading the new version until I finish a couple of other things. That will teach me for uploading something without testing it lol.
[Edit 2] Ok the new fixed version has been uploaded, it also adds location data for Shin Jea tokens. The old link should point to the new version now.

But...I once downloaded an older version that had all of prophecies locations. Why doesn't it have that anymore?
edit:Nvm, i had something wrong with my .ds
But I really can't wait until the GUI is finished x3
Seriously, this will be highly anticipated!

Just uploaded an updated version of the playlist editor. added a few features, and improved various other aspects. Most notable change is support for level specific tokens not initially included in the DS file has been added. I've added data on all the level tokens I could find, so the app should now have entries for (hopefully) almost every level in the game.
If you were using a previous version of the app I suggest restoring the backup copy of your original DS file (readme of the new version should tell you how) as I made a few changes to how the app handles the DS file. Been using this version myself for the past few days and it seems to be working ok.
As usual, old link should point to the new version. Hopefully with this version it can be thought of as finished (assuming no bug fixes are needed), don't think there is any major area of the game I have missed.

I've got the yellow warning symbol and GW won't play the DS songs, though they will play through WMP. I've been to the DS site and followed their instructions to resolve this issue to the letter. No joy. I think they must've laid off their support people because I opened a ticket 2 MONTHS ago and never got a reply, other the the automated response when I opened it. I've gone back to support and checked many times, but the ticket was never updated by their support people.
Now, this happened when I upgraded to 64 bit Vista. Is there an issue with DS and 64 bits?

Am I just not looking in the right place. I've been trying to find the Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak on DirectSong's website. I eventually found the actual pack via discovering their /zip directory. But I still have no way to license the files, and their seems to be no option once registered to license the pack. Am I missing something obvious?

I didn't see if this was discussed anywhere (I only skimmed though) how would I go about adding the songs to iTunes?
