@WoodyDotNet - I think it's not set in the windows registery (telling GuildWars where the files are at). Try this, download any of the installers, and install to a different location on your computer, then copy all the other Direct Song packs to that folder.
@Daeymon - You have to register / create an account from here - http://www.directsong.com/Register.asp When you try to play the file, Windows Media Player should update and ask for you to sign in.
@Tactician Akhom - You will have to create Audio CD using Windows Media Player, then you can import in to itunes. Some of the music packs do not allow CD-Burning.

I did already register at the link you just provided. And I already had Media Player bring up the issue license page. But it simply comes up with a two options to pick either a Permanent or Temporary License, except it says I have 0 or either. So no matter what I select is says it cannot issue me a license. And I have created a brand new fresh account, and the same thing again. Create one yourself, and see if you can get it to work. If you do and it works, please tell me step by step what you did, if I am doing something wrong, then its something small.

I am having problems with this DirectSong. I paid extra and purchased the Guild Wars Nightfall Collector's Edition over a year ago and I am unable to get these songs working in game (They work fine in WMP)
I have downloaded the latest GuildWars.ds file which has the following:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stephan.../GuildWars.txt
I have installed it in the default directory:
I have ran the RegisterDirectSongDirectory.exe file and my registry points to the correct directory:
However in game, it does not work and I get this yellow exclamation mark in the sound tab.
Please help

deadman, in your Guild Wars folder there should be a file named 'ds_GuildWars.txt'. It contains a log of whats going wrong with DirectSong, it should help you solve your problem. I had a similar problem ages back but I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it.
Might be worth checking the access permissions for the soundtrack folder and each track, Vista might be denying DirectSong access to them.

Odd, it should output a log file when something goes wrong. I found my support ticket on the DirectSong site form when I was having problems but I notice it's from 2005 (didn't realise it was that long ago), it's possible they disabled it in a later version.
I would post up my support ticket, but the one thing I can remember about how I fixed it in the end is it wasn't anything that was suggested in the ticket.

I still can't find how and where to get this Sorrow's Furnace Mini-Pak licensed.
The irony of it is, I now have all the other packs, the sold ones and the exclusive ones. I got them all licensed and working. Currently going through the ds file with a fine tooth comb. I believe every area should have its own distinct kind of music, and looking at the selection, I believe thats what Jeremy Soule intended. This FAQ helped greatly, plus all the lvl references on the wiki.
So come on people, why is it, that the only pack that eludes me is the one I don't have to pay for :S .
For the exclusive soundtracks, I had to enter the member area via a special login link from a specific page. This prompted the code page upon logging in which led to me getting the licenses. Without that special login link, there is no way in the main member area to use your codes to redeem soundtracks.
So is it the same for Sorrows Furance, maybe theres a special page, with a special login link for the member area, that once clicked, brings up the login, and then after logging in some special page comes up to confirm you have your free pack. The strangest thing is, the DirectSong website doesn't show any evidence of the Sorrows Furnace Mini-Pak, no link on the homepage what so ever.
Has anyone got any insight on this? Oh and don't suggest the helpdesk at DirectSong, I've had a ticket with it for a month now. Also when looking over the knowledgbase, looks to me a question hasn't been answered since 2006 :S

What if WMP claims I do not have the rights to burn music (let alone play it apparently).

I am still in need of help if anyone has other suggestions. I pay extra for something that doesn't work....

Try: Rightclick on the Registering program and choose "Run as Administrator".
Rogue programs can no longer edit the registry without approval in Vista.
This is how I got it working in Vista.

Hey guys, maybe someone here can help me out. I'm having the same problem as a bunch of others, it looks like.
I can't burn my CD. I'm running Vista and I did run the installer/downloader as an administrator. That actually got me somewhere, but not the whole way. Instead of not being able to burn ANY songs, I was able to burn all but the first 6 songs on the Prophecies Special Edition soundtrack.
I went to try to reburn it and it said that I now had no burning rights at all. (I'm wondering if all I get is one burn right per soundtrack. If so, I'm going to send another ticket in to DirectSong to ask them to somehow reset mine since I didn't get to burn the entire soundtrack at no fault of mine.)
Anyways, any ideas as to why the first 6 songs didn't have any burn rights?
And I don't know about anyone else, but DirectSong has been nothing but a pain in my arse. I was stupid not to read reviews before buying.

On there ftp site, there's a utility that you put in the same folder where the music is located, and it will update the windows registry with the current location of where you ran that file.
Can't recall the exact name at the moment / unable to check.

I registered today just to say thanks for making this thread and the how to install thread. I picked up the collectors edition of nightfall and factions a few weeks ago and didn't have a clue what this bonus music was about.
Cause of you I have managed to get the factions music working, and the nightfall music downloaded (the printed slip in the box had the wrong URL!). Sadly it looks like DirectSong has allowed its servers to lapse, I get a generic "contact system admin" when I try to register my nightfall music key God how I hate DRM.

Hi, I just reinstalled GW I'm running Win 7 64-bit. This is my 3rd time configuring directsong, and this is the only time it has given me this problem. It works fine up until I select permanent license then click submit after that I keep getting page cannot be displayed, is there something wrong? This has been going on since Sunday, for me. I emailed support no answer yet.....
Ominous Gamer
I get the same error T1125P, it happens on Temp License as well. DirectSong hasn't replied to any of my support tickets and I'm talking to guildwars support now about that issue and not being able to register my nightfall music key.
Ominous Gamer
After some low level idiots told me to clear my cookies, and run their game advisor (wtf), I got a more direct answer from NCsoft.
Thats right, DirectSong and their DRM doesn't care about GuildWars anymore, and NCsoft doesn't care about that.
Bullshit.
Quote:
I'm sorry for the confusion. We really don't have any way to assist you with this issue. If Direct Song support is not contacting you back you may want to check some Guild Wars forum sites to see if there are any suggestions about this. Please let us know if you have any other questions. |
Bullshit.
T1125P
Oh man... I guess we are on our own with this one. It looks like there is a problem on their end, something wrong with their server when we try to get the license for our music. I'm sure we have our music configured right, or we wouldn't get this far. Guess we have to wait longer till they fix their shit.
Rudhraighe O'Hagan
I have had a Ticket open with direct song for almost 3 weeks now with no response.
It appears that they are willing to collect money for a product they are no longer willing or able to support.
If Direct Song continues to violate the music distribution contract it may fall upon the community to create a replacement music interface for Guild Wars and to collect soundtracks from any source possible. and to seek legal action against Direct Song.
In other words Direct Song may no longer support any of it's products whatsoever. At least the lack of customer support indicates a lack of interest or worse....

If anyone still has a valid license for the DirectSong music, its easy enough to strip the DRM off of those songs. But I don't have a valid license yet, and DirectSong won't fix their broken servers so that I can get a valid license.
So I'm still SOL, and DirectSong and NCsoft don't give a crap.

Hi, yeah I can take out the DRM with software, but I just want the music to work in the game like it used it. Guess we have to stand by and wait.......

Is it still possible to purchase the Battle Pack 1 music collection? I am unable to find a place to purchase the music, or at least licensing rights to listen to them. I requested a ticket with DS support about two months ago, but have not received a reply since then.

Hi, I'm desperatly looking for a lossless GWen Sountrack release, will Directsong ever make a WAV release ? Why the heck is there no audio CD even in special editions ???
Thank you for your help,
Please do not troll, I used to have the 320 kbps version and I admit it is more than clean but when I losslessly ripped my audio CD it was magic it's really really deeper and there are more details listening with my 60 euros earbuds and well I can't tell you with my 300 euros earbuds it is really insane O_o.
If 320 kbps is enough for you that's good but IMO it's not nice from Directsong not to think of people who like to hear the original quality ! Especially when other campaigns where released on CD it's like a devolution.......

today the error changed to a different one, I am still unable to register this music and I think it is time they did something. I am 4 weeks on a support ticket for factions and nightfall music. hopefully this change in the error I get is sign of them fixing it? doubt it.

Now I need to figure out how to get Sorrow's Furnace working.
AmbientMelody
I think that Anet ought to integrate the bonus music to the gw.dat file for GW2. That way at least you simply unlock the parts of the game like BMP by going to the in-game store or typing digital key from boxed copy or whatever.
It's a bit silly you pay for something that was supposed to increase your GAMING experience (actual bonus in-game music) and then it turns out it's not working properly, or better yet - you are stuck on some idiotic and completely unresponsive support ticket, because they even refuse to take responsibility and fix your problems!

Has anyone gotten the MP3s to work?
I took a look into ds_GuildWars.dll and found a few interesting things, for one it confirms a "DRMHeader" for every music file that is going to play. Which is why my question above. I also found three different specifications as to where the "ds_guildwarslog.txt" can be located. One is hard coded to be in the root of drive C: as if that makes any sense.
They did not even bother to debug it, lots of complier errors, most refering to invalid function calls but there was one unusual termination error. This is driving me nuts.

Heya guys! I posted in the other DirectSong thread, but wanted to follow up here too (in case some of you aren't reading the other one).
I've passed along the issues you're running into, and will continue to follow up on the topic. Please keep in mind that we don't run the DirectSong site, so we'll need to work with them to figure out what's going on. I'm not sure about a timeframe on this, but we're actively checking it out.
We apologize for the frustrations you guys have had, and thanks so much for letting us know about the issues!

Gaile Gray sent out a response to a community member a few weeks ago. Apparently you can purchase music from the old site (I think in wma format) at REMOVED
EDIT: DO NOT use the old site to look for music. I purchased GW Battle Pak 1 and I received no licences or music for the purchase.

I guess I'm late to the party, but it all works for me now; but not like DirectSong claims.
Trying to register the old DRM protected WMA files results in a message telling you to download newer song files from directsong.com.
But we all already know directsong.com doesn't mention a damn thing about Guildwars anymore.
But going to the link listed on your original bonus music slip doesn't work for Factions. It downloads the same old unsupported files, resulting in the same message.
You have to go to http://www.directsong.com/wma/ to download the Factions and Nightfall songs. They appear to no longer be DRM protected, so anyone can use them.
Side note:
The website to register your Nightfall music key finally works, but that no longer matters since the music files are not DRM protected.
Glad this was finally fixed for everyone.

I called Directsong at their number in Washington (the state). I was able to get into contact with an engineer and they were able to get me the music I wanted. If you're still looking for Guild wars music, try their number and ask for DirectSong music purchasing.

Hey there, all. I just re-downloaded all of my DirectSong soundtracks, and I get the same message Ominous Gamer mentioned. I can't acquire licenses for any of my soundtracks. I went to the /wma link which got me the Factions/Nightfall Collector's Edition songs which are unprotected and do play, but I'm still at a loss for all my other soundtracks. I opened a ticket on DirectSong's site, but no one has responded.
I called the # listed by quickshot1012 and that just sounds like someone's cell not necessarily related to DirectSong.
Does anyone have a solution to this 'Please go to www.directsong.com and download the latest version of your DirectSong Soundtrack' error? I've got all these paid soundtracks that I'm unable to play and DirectSong's site doesn't even acknowledge that they ever sold game soundtracks unless you have a link from a purchase email. I'm sitting on Battle Pak One, EotN, Prophecies, Sorrow's Furnace and Morrowind with the files on my PC, useless.
Frustrating.

The only set of songs that will not work is Sorrows as some dink decided to not make a drm-free version of those songs.
