Hi there.
First of all i want to say im not starting this for myself but for some dear friends of mine.
I know alot of (working/holidaying) people are upset , that they couldnt join this years Halloween Event / The Return of Mad King.
And probably many of them already missed the last years event.
I know there are many pros and cons to this topic but think about it:
Mad King was only here for 24Hours and some ppl just cant afford that because of job-busyness or something similar.
(maybe also cant let their chars idle if you want to mention this, not everyone got flatrate )
So i just hope there will be a possibility to get some of these awesome items after Mad King is gone...maybe not a Collector but any other task or something.
So Anet and everyone else if you read this pls pluck up courage and bring in a way for these nice GW-players to get their hat too.

The Dragon Festival had collectors too, which imo was a great idea.
So yeah, I will /sign. A collector who will be there for maybe 2 days or so, in Lions arch and Kamadan, handing out the 2 hats for whatever seems best. (collectors items, money?) I'd gladly pay 5k each if I could get both for all my toons this way.

My only hesitation to signing this comes from the fact that Anet clearly stated in advance that they would not have a collector (Gaile said it herself) and that the opportunities to get the hats would be in the times the Mad King came. Because of this, many people made sacrifices to ensure that they got hats for their characters. I only slept a couple hours last night so that I could be on for the first few appearances of the mad King. I even set my alarm to wake up when he was scheduled to arrive then went back to sleep afterwards. I believe it would be unfair to all those that sacrificed to be there during the scheduled times. For future events, I think that a collector would be a good idea. It has been used successfully in the Dragon event and I feel that if it weren't for Anet being busy with nightfall that we would have had a collector that hung around after the Halloween event as well.
I'm curious why your friends couldn't be there for any of the mad king's appearances. This took place over a 24 hour period so unless they work for 30 hours straight, I don't see why they couldn't have gotten at least a hat or two. Even if they couldn't be at their computers, they could have just been afk and still received a hat.

I'm neutral on this but I'm in total agreement with winkgood's point about it being unfair to the people who actually sacrificed to be there at the event... (like me :P shaved off a couple of hours of sleep so i could attend three of them). Boy was I tired....

I don't think it would make that much difference. The basis of it is lack of time and/or not flat rate (didn't know there were still places with this problem as most internet prone countries have gone monthly or something similar, even if it is dial-up). So if that is the basis, and the solution would be an orb-like collector, well wouldn't that take up about the same amount of time to collect-farm-buy the items needed as it would to just leave GW on for a couple of hours afk.
Maybe for wintersday or next halloween, but not for this one. An event should be followed through as it was announced (barring errors/bugs that affect the whole)

I'd appreciate not having to lose sleep or stress myself out in future events.
A collector for the current event would be nice. Also - 48 hours for future Mad King type figures. Having 2 evenings to play would give far more people a chance to attend.
Additionally, I'd like Anet to consider something I suggested in another thread. Have a /preorder style command to summon any "unlocked" hats (i.e. ones that have been obtained) for any character, at any time.
That would take the stress out of obtaining the hats (only need to do it once), eliminate the storage issue (summon when needed, delete when not) and still be unique for the people who "were there" (not an issue for me, but I know some people get uppity at the idea of their items getting less special).

What's so important about keeping the hats rare? So what if the hats become common, just hop onto each character you got and show them that your more elite cuz you have more hats of the same kind than that guy does? Maybe he'll have less of a life than you and beat you on that bet. GG to him.
Maybe not this time, but with the next event, yes, please try to have a collector onsite to give out the hats later. I don't wait till Santa(lol) gets here on Christmas Eve to ask him for a hat, i'll go to the collector (Wal-Mart) and get one my damn self! It'd be nice if that would happen ingame! Let's all stop trying to be elitists, bigots, selfish people and share in the glory of the holidays! They are called Holidays, not Hellidays....

I really don't see the big deal about hats. If you were there, you got one. Woopee. If you weren't then you didn't. So what, its not the end of the world.
I didn't get a Tengu mask from the Factions headstart thing, but it doesn't mean that when I see someone wearing one I start crying and whining about how I didn't get one.

I feel like that old guy screaming at kids to "get off my lawn" and telling about how in the old days we worked for our lvls and skills. "You kids got it soooo easy now." Suck it up and STFU. Life sucks people die stuff breaks. People always bitching cause they cant bring their freaking mini-pets that they bought didnt earn into town, cause thats what we want is a load of mini-pets eating space so that way you retards can dance and have a pet. Its always some nonsence. If it does not affect game play its just for show who cares.

Also, who in their right mind works for 24 consecutive hours? Everyone should have time to turn on their home computer, load a program, move a character to a certain point in a town in 5 miniutes, and then walk away.

The times for Mad King Thorn are usually at the busiest times as well 12/3/6/9 and it makes it hard for those who have to work. I have highschool, a house to clean, dinner to make, and my sister to take out to trick or treat, I've no time to play GW on halloween and it makes it hard for us who look forward to this.

i dont mind if i dont get candy weapons and all those different drinks but i love to get the pumpkins, tengu's mask, yule cap and horns of grenth or wicked hat that cannot be bought from ppl, which is quite good in order not to sell those masks for 100k+XXXXX ectos (u know what i mean) if ppl has not been able to get one. but they could be customized to the account not to each char since i like to get these masks for all my chars but as the mad king comes every 3 hours i cannot get them for all of them since this year 31st oct has been a working day, at least in Spain.
i hope u can understand my english, cuz its not my native language

i woke up at 5:30 AM to catch the Mad King for his 6 AM visit in kamadan then i left my mesmer afk in LA. Then i hurried to make it to my train to work.

I just made the last Mad king arrival last year and hated the experience, noobs kept clicking him interrupting his speech so I couldn't see what he was saying (= countless deaths)
And on top of that a week later my friend got mad at me and he deleted my ele who had the pumpkin mask T.T,

Being one of those busy people with a full-time job, I still managed to get pumpkin crowns on 8 characters and wicked hats on 10, and answer the door for trick-or-treaters, and go to work. I could really use some more sleep now, but that's not Anet's fault, it was my decision to get the hats.
Critical difference between this event & the Tengu event when Factions was released: you can get the Halloween hats without doing anything but being in the right place at the right time, and it was well advertised. The Tengu event required you to collect a fairly large number of items, as well as show up for the Emperor's appearance. Collecting the items took too much time, and made it impossible for many of us to get the masks unless we were willing to pay outrageously to people who'd been collecting all day. Other than that one event, I think Anet has done a good job with all the other hat-reward events, and should not change their format.

Well lets see for all those people who said its about the event not the hat... You weren't exactly there for the event if you were AFK, you were there for the hat. Secondly, what if your on Dial up? Can't exactly leave that running all day can we especially if your with a family? Third, AFK is such the easy answer until you get home and its says err 007 check your internet connection moron.... but my internet connection is fine!? Fourth, it was a weekday, some people have families they have to care for, so between not showing up to work like a zombie, getting the kid ready in their costume, and then making sure said kid doesn't get run over by that drunk teen joyriding in the streets, holidays are a little stressful when you have to be somewhere at a certain time for a digital item, especially when said digital item takes 30 minutes to get (yeah thorn was there for 25 to 30 minutes people lets not lie to ourselves).
I was able to grab a few for myself running over a few lawn gnomes and hurdling a few fences after tricker treating but I think it certainly would have been less of an excercise if there was a quest to get the item. You know a cute little event that involves maybe visiting a few npcs and picking up treats to deliver to another NPC and viola you get a hat at your own pace on your own spare time and its all in the spirit of halloween. I'm not saying it needs to be extended out for a week or three But like 2 days would be nice, or a day thats not constitent with millions of americans going to work on a regular schedule.
And for all those people screaming /notsigned this is a petition folks, you don't run up to people in the mall petitioning grab the clipboard and scribble not signed on it. If you got a beef with it go discuss it in another thread.

Not signed, yoru right about the hectic work schedule. But I left my game running in the right town to get the hat, and actually got 2 which I only need one. Work around the time zone or leave you character in the town.

Getting a hat required zero effort. Just make sure you are connected to the server. I can do that easily (with exception to err-007).
What if it required quest items that required questing and farming? My weekends involve food shopping, cleaning, babysitting and laundry. >.< The past quest items (Jade Orbs and Naga Fangs) were difficult for me to collect since I do have priorities. I had to get them through friends/guildmates or buy them off from people.

and now seriously, its not like these hats are adding any attributes or any bonuses, its PURELY to say that you were there, and what point would there be if people that werent there would be able to ge them?
