The New age solo monk
|pyro|
Love it.
Ambuu
Hmm... This build works great =D
So far, all the below work (that I've done):
-Sand Drakes
-Hyrdas
-Ice Imps
-Seige Ice Golems
-Pinesols
-Jade Brotherhood Kinght
-Jade Brotherhood Mage
I'm sure that this will work with any elementalist, warrior enemies.
Just remember kids: STAY OFF MESMERS
But I'm sure you figured that out hehehe =P

yes it does.
the basic idea behind the build is to heal and damage at the same time. mending is not needed most of the time. once you get deg or bleeding heal with orison. since you have zealots fire this will add damage. so, if the mobs are trying to run away - freeze them and cast PS, SoA, orison and SoJ (if available). This will do niche damage. it is more demanding to play due to interrupt and healing when needed. however, if the going gets to tough - mobs will flee the zealots fire when you do not freez them - this gives you a break.
it is a very flexible build - just adapt to your mode of playing. just using SoJ takes too long for my taste, however this is the very secure and relaxed way.

Works very well. 14 Prot being the break point for 7 seconds really SUCKS, but that's life. If you choose to live dangerously (or if you're running a 55), you can drop Protection down to 11 or so, and still get 20+ seconds out of Prot Spirit, and use the attribute points to raise Healing to 8 for the +3 Mending, which will more than likely save you for the 1 second of SoA downtime (unless you're getting heavy degen). AND (and this is huge for variant builds) you can get up to 12 points in any secondary attribute.
SoJ can be a fast killer, and is good for large mobs when you can hold aggro. It isn't always the best choice, obviously. Sometimes you need to deal direct damage. The biggest problem with solo monking has always been dealing damage. So your Elite needs to be something that can kill fast and reliably.
Some variations:
Mo/Me Illusionary Weaponry- 12 Illusion gives you 34 damage with IW, and you're still a /Me so you can use Mantra of Resolve. Good for enemies who may stop to heal, and for melee mobs, since SoJ relies on them steadily attacking you. Good for mobs that interrupt.
Mo/N Spoil Victor- Very good for mobs that don't interrupt, and for being a 55. Probably the highest single-enemy DPS you can get out of a solo Monk. Sucks against bosses, who have a natural 1/2 duration condition/hex defense. Will still work, but you'll have to cast it twice as often, which can lead to energy management problems.
Mo/N Spiteful- maybe, maybe not... your mileage will vary, due to the AI update.
Mo/N Tainted Flesh- only good for fleshy melee mobs without interrupts. Good when you can use it because of the spell's duration.
Mo/Rt VwK- haven't tried it myself yet, so I'm not sure which mobs it will work best on or how effective it will be.
Mo/* Word of Censure- good damage, HORRIBLE for finishing an enemy off, due to the 20 second recharge stipulation. Also not great energy management, meaning you'll need large mobs to fuel your energy and you'll have to wand them to death once they fall below 33% health. You know what? forget I mentioned this skill. It sucks ass.
Mo/E Sandstorm- haven't capped it yet, but if it doesn't cause scatter, it could be VERY effective. Again, not interrupt-friendly.
Mo/E Searing Flames- if your mobs are large enough for good energy upkeep (consider using Essence Bond AND Balth's Spirit for 2 energy per hit), then HELL YEAH.
Mo/W... the oldie-but-goodie Bonetti's/Gladiator's defense combo, or hell, you could even use Hundred Blades for something different.
Sadly, there aren't many good elites in the game. Even more sadly, Shield of Absorption WILL get nerfed (it's never a matter of "if", only "when"). They let us play with SB for 6 months, maybe SoA will last as long. But by all means, farm away while you still have something good!

I cant understand what is the POINT of this kind of farming.... Farming is supposed to be profitable. If it is not profitable than it is pointless.
I killed hundreds of imps/golems yet I havent gotten a single gold. Tusked howlers are to few to bother. Besides, they mostly drop crap anyways.
Anet is not stupid. They thought if they cant nerf ranged farming, at least they'll nerf the drops from ranged monsters.

Although i have to kinda agree with ya on the drops thing..
i have to disagree also. there are many places that can still net you about 1-2k a run.. and the tusk howlers are one of those places. and for me a full tusk howler run takes at most 4 minutes..
keep doin that and even crap drops add up to some decent cash.

Sidra
Full tusked Echo-SoJ run for me takes ~6-8 minutes, generally yields 1-2k like scryed said, and I've gotten several runes and other insignias/inscriptions that have netted me at least 15k worth of on-the-side gold from indirect selling. And that's only the ones that I haven't horded for myself.
DeathByBowtie
I've gotten a few golds from the Howler run (some daggers, a hammer, one or two others), and each run gets 1.5-2k plus some materials, and every other run or so gets a blue armor drop, which is usually pretty valuable (I've gotten lots of Survivor's Insignias, which sold for ~2k when I got them), so overall even a short little run like that can be quite profitable.

I have been trying to find SoA. Can someone tell me where it's at?

Hey Narutoscryed, im going to try your monk build, but first i wanna get the same off hand weapon you use. ive checked all of elona reach for the collect that gives me the off hand weapon for 5 topaz crests?!?
Eclair
You can farm certain greens with the build.
I used it to get myself a Zelhenun's longbow after the update!
Sort of okay drops from those archers, a lot of salvaged steel though.

IIRC, he's standing just outside the exit from Augury Rock.
shadowmist
Tested this out on the sand elementals and ice imps, and it works great! With the end of troll, minotaur, and shiro'ken farming, I was thinking all I could farm were the Queen Kephket scarabs with my vengeful rit. Now I have motivation to play my monk once again ^_^ Farming FTW!

how did u get +3 health regen i only have +2

Lingering Curse...? Just check their skillsets :/. You'll need continual Spell Breaker.

Lingering Curse...? Just check their skillsets :/. You'll need continual Spell Breaker. not to sure about solo for the fleshies.. but if you two man it with a famine ranger that has qz in the skill bar it should be very possible
your skillbar may look like this.
prot spirit, shield of absorbtion, fear me, spell breaker, blessed sig, balths spirit, blessed aura, mending ( for small degen)
his would include somthing like
famine, eoe, qz, sv, av, barbed trap, dust trap, and a rez.. traps are for aggro drop.
pretty much have him set up spirits at spawn and then have him cast sv on ya.. then cast sb on yourself.. with qz you can keep it up all the time. and getting sv before aggro hits will make sure you dont get a scatter from him casting on ya.
then run in and commence tanking/fear me spamming.. i figure the whole group would be dead within the first sb anyways..
just a thought on a possible build off the top of my head. so prolly wont work.
before the update these could easily be solo'd with a simple m/r spirit bond build that included a qz to ensure the double cast of spellbreaker. double retribution damage to undead was awsome and made for some quick kills

But I'm sure you figured that out hehehe =P If you are talking about Jade Brotherhood Mesmers, don't worry. They don't remove enchants. Atleast not when I encountered them 20 times. In fact they didn't do much at all. As for other kind of Mesmers I think you're right indeed.

I soloed a large portion of The Hidden City with this variation:
PS
SoA
HB
SV
IW {Elite}
Balth's Spirit
Blessed Aura
Mending
14 prot, 13 divine, 4 heal, 11 illusion
The only problem was that the diamond djinns took forever to kill so i'm thinking of dropping mending for AV. Other than that it goes really smooth.

I got my blessed aura up to 32%. Have your cap be +1 divine healing. Seems to be a little more forgiving on getting the shield back up. I am farming ice imps outside ice caves of sorrows. I also have the negative cesta but only 4 runes. I am buying a Jaynes staff and will get the 5th rune soon. So my health is 130 instead of 135. I have only had success at this location. I have tried a few others but get creamed. Now that I found that 32% helps I may try other spots. I would love to see more comments on other spots to farm and necessary build changes.

How could you do that? I tried to cover SoA with Healing Breeze but it wasn't enough. Any info on farming these guys including the heretics would be helpful.

I was thinking, has any1 tryed this build on a boss?
