I ask that because well, it would seem that way. It used to be the minimum amount of districts you'd see in Droknar' Forge was 9. When Factions came out it seemed to stay pretty steady around 7 districts. Lion's Arch grew a bit in size since it was the "port/gateway" to Cantha, but at the same time Keineng Center was like the Droks of Cantha. It always held strong with about 10 districts.
Now it would seem with Elona being thrown ito the picture both Droks and Keineng Center are somewhat doomed. I haven't seen Droks jump above "3" districts since the release of Nightfall. I've seen it as low as 2 districts now as well. Keineng Center seems to sit around 4 districts most of the time, even during peak hours. Now this is for USA servers, I don't know how Europe is doing on this part.
I know that Elona and Kamadan attract the majority of people right now, but I wonder if this is a trend we will continue to see. It also makes me wonder if we will see an even bigger hit and a desert town once Chapter IV is released.
Lion's Arch seems safe as the gateway, but what about the rest of Tyria? and eventually the rest of Cantha? Is it doomed? I dunno, but I think we need updates t those game to attract people back in there.. As people mention an SF update or something. Somethign different. Otherwise some of our old favorite towns are going to just simply die.
Is Droks Truely Done for?

I would imagine Kaineng will continue to draw a significant minority of people. It was a more centralized trade location than LA or Droks ever was, and for general trades it still seems like a better place to go.
But yeah, I don't know why anyone would be hanging out in Droks anymore, and everyone left in LA is the 24/7 seller spam bots.

I predict that Cantha will become a ghost town, home only to farmers, skill cappers, and a few die-hards. You can already see this trying to find mission groups for any of the areas beyond Kaineng. The Deep and Urgoz's Warren are so empty I've given up trying to find a ferry or group. People are not going to want to spend time grabbing faction for big alliances, and I see the entire "faction" system gradually dying off.
No need to worry. There will always be people who buy the latest chapters, and then want the others for skill or exploration. I'm willing to bet that the price of Prophecies will drop in the near future, to entice people who've been introduced via Nightfall.

I know Anet needs to make a profit and each new chapter funds the coffers, but a few minor updates to tempt players and reward those that carry on supporting?
my two pennies....
i was in a deserted dis 1 english European distric of Kaineng City yesterday, forgot why i was their though, ahh yes, new Guild halls. I wouldnt imagine Droks will take a big hit, of course in the FIRST WEEK after a release of a new chapter there will always be deserted towns in the old lands. Nolani Academy the other night wasnt bad though. I'd think Drok's will come back as a major trading post. But I'll always want to trade in Vabbi now, just something about it.
Kaineng was always busier then LA or Drok's. I couldnt see a thing with trade turned on, and I often went there to trade. Kaineng is, also, the only real 'city' in the game. All the others just look like small trading outposts, no homes, no buildings, but Kaineng had towering blocks and it was always very bustling. There probably wont be as many people in KC nw, but I would think a new trade city will take over, and of course there is always LA, Los Angeles, i mean Lion's Arch.

a player who buys chapter 1 has the entire new game and would not even notice a few new quests added.
an old player would come back for a few hours at most than complain how little was added.
keep the new chapters coming as they have already said no new content for the old chapters
Trading purposes really isn't a big deal I suppose, but at the same time these towns are still places that are revered and always have been. Now they're losing anything that was left in them. Without reason to ascend, etc... alot of people may not need to be there anymore, but it is the gateway to the southern shiverpeaks and has always ben a good place to go farm, etc.. it seems that it has been taken away now though...
I can see KC losing all its falre though too.. LA seems to be where it's at...spam city i like to call it.. but meh.
I just don't want to see certain parts of the game die so soon, so easily either, but if no little tweaks are done or nothing new is updated/added, that's the way it's going to be. The troll caves and pwr leveling kept people in Droks before, now that that is gone, nothing else to hold you there.

If I only need 2 people and Heros to do the missions in Prophesies, then how do I use the heros. But wait, I need NF to use the heros. If I had NF, then Prophesies becomes old hat, except maybe for titles. Hmmm, do I get NF just to get more characters thru Prophesies or continue as I am? Decisions, decisions.

As for Tyria and Cantha becoming empty, I'm personally hoping that for Ch 4, Anet will revisit Tyria... they could keep some of the old cities (Drok's) and "rebuild" others (Ascalon City), add outposts, remove outposts, etc. A rebuilt Ascalon could be really cool! (and level 20 charr, of course).
Perhaps for cities that remain unchanged, you could even have people who own Ch 4 and those who just have Prophecies in the same districts (though I can see the potential for terrible confusion in this situation).
As far as the death of Tyria I realy dont think so. That is where I started when the game first came out and I still like to call it home for the majority of my characters. Something ne can and probably will draw a few players back to Tyria, but it will have to be something that a lot of players want. I think that making the Char homeland accesssable only for those who have Prophecies may give some new interest in it. I would personaly like to kick some Char butt on their home turf.

BTW, to stay on topic, I believe the difficulty of doing Droks runs, and subsequent price of runs changing has something to do with the less people as well
