from what I have seen, al the ''monster only'' and the ''elemental collectors'' stuff that the elementals can drop, can be salvage dinto sapphries/rubies/diamonds, but justa really slim chance. With Measure for measure inscription, this chance goes up significantly. Further more, items like ''jeweld daggers'' etc can be salvaged into gems. same as above. I tihnk.

Thank you to everyone who has been nice enough to share which items can be salvaged for gems. It's nice to know which things are worth trying to Expert Salvage instead of merching them

These salvages are rare enough that they won't even touch the Market. I expect ArenaNet to change that, otherwise no one will be able to afford 5k Vabbi in a month or two...

Hopefully (as there was a hint or 2 in the Scribe) the NF Elite mission/s drop Rubies/Sapphires lots, like Ectos/Shards, because the fact that you CANNOT get them as a regular drop is ridiculous.

I agree with Tookis on this, this is one of the few ways people can make some cash without doing some 55 farming, or some other time intensive farm, considering I only have 2 hrs a day.. this is great for me.

He after my rubie i got from that dagger i salvaged at least 25 more ruby daggers (with exp salvage kit yes) and didn't get any.
My point is: sure they can be salvaged but i think the change that theire being salvaged is so low that it will barely affect ruby prices.
and yes i'm talking about rubys since i have not seen actual proof of saphires being salvaged

Well if there was a NF strategy guide it would have had a chart in it for those and their salvaging options...
As for daggers, I think I everyone knew about those, specially when measure for measure came out. Hard part is finding daggers that take an inscription.
But ether hearts, one more thing to salvage, good thing I got alot of rewards for salvage kits.

Jeweled daggers salvage to sapphires. I have done it twice with the measure inscription on them. Anyone thinking the price of ruby and saphs would hold is clueless to begin with. Look at amber and jade 2 months into factions.

I've salvaged probably about 20 or so things that salvage into jewels, including with the salvage inscription on them and got dust each and every time, so it's still rare regardless and shouldn't affect price that much.

That said, Rubies and Sapphires are just simply rare, and they always will be. There just hasn't been anything to use them for, until now. So now that there actually is a demand, and the droprate is still incredibly rare, there has to be other ways to acquire the precious gems besides just buying them from the trader.
I think they will eventually even out to about where Obsidian Shards are at. I could see the rarity of both (and the usefullness - expensive armor) being about the same, but people will still use Ectos for currency. This means that if people aren't going to actually use the Rubies/Sapphires(/Shards), they will likely be sold to the trader, lowering the price inevitably.
So yeah, compare the gems to Shards, not Ectos. Makes more sense, and you'll see the [likely] long-term value of them.
