(Races) I want to be different, like everyone else.

This is probably a topic that has been brought up many times, but I would love to be able to be something else, other than a human.
With the release of the initial game, there was always the hint given that, perhaps in the future, other races might become available to players, such as the Dwarves. Then, with the release of the Factions expansion, suddenly some of the NPCs you dealt with, or who graced your party for a mission, were not so base human looking. With Nightfall, the most recent expansion, these varied race NPCs became hero's, that adventured with you, and that you had a slight hand in making unique (with secondary class and your own weapons/focus items).
I want to make my Tengu assassin, or cliché dwarven warrior. I don't want Zhed Shadowhoof in my party, I want to BE Zhed Shadowhoof.
More than anything, this is what I would love to see.

Pick Zhed or Talon and get him to Explorable area.
Type /dance
They won't dance.
Adding more races would requie full complete sets of emotes, models, armors, faces, hairdstyles and so on... other races do not have now...
Human players have 'composed' modesl made out of different pieces.
I think this is the main problem with that. Too much thing to add.

Mithran, before you start analyzing the feasible solutions on how to make it, just think if you like it or not. Technical things like that will build in time, if something like this is ever implamented.

I'm starting to get ouf of free space.
Adding tons of Mb of new stuff would give some aches to many low end pcs...
Plus how would Edge of Extinction or Disease deal with this?
Trat any playing character as the same race, like it currntly does with Talon?

Actually no... i'm against it.
Imho races are one of the curses of RPGs. Especially elves and dwarves.

This is a disgrace. Why do you think I play Guild Wars? Hell why does my whole guild play guild wars? Because it's different from that retarded WoW. What does WoW have? Like.. 4 races?
Bah. Elf Human Dwarf and something else I believe. Those look a lot like what you're asking for. I'd rather not have more races unless they're different. Otherwise we'd just be trailing all the other rpgs ever made on earth. (Maybe that's exagerating... But still!)
Although I do want to be a birdman. It was so much fun slaughtering them back when my tank was newb and I farmed ettins. (Thankyou anerf for helping me kick my addiction to those runes.)

It is not that I don't like races, I aways make female elves were available, but not for this game.

If it end up like human, but different skin...no thanks, I am tired of such lack of imagination
I mean...where is the fantasy in that?? What are the chances that another inteligent life form look like us?? Its like asuming aliens have 2 hands and 2 legs, a head above their body, both eye in front, and do "it" in the same way we do
But if they are introducing something that is totaly out of this world, and make it believeable. Then it might be worth the trouble

Yeah, im for tengu and centaurs. but not like dwarves and elves.. too overused.

There are currently four allied races:
Dwarven, Forgotten ones, Aerie Tengu and Elonian Centaurs.

You fergot humans mithran.

And undead.

I meant 'other than human'.
Undead are not a race, see the awakened? They are centaurs, giants, humans... they are a 'category' of creature, but not a race.

I'd like to see the AI fixed more than anything else. Then pets. Pets have been out since the very beginning, and we can't even give them the commands we give heroes. What gives? Bah.. *goes to burn Arena Net flags*

Well, I think tengu isnt too much out of this world yet=P they still get the 2 arm and 2 leg thing, but I asume they are egg born and they do wield their sword differently.(maybe they do "it" differently as well??)
Centaur might work=P if a-net put enough work in it=P they still move very human to me other then the leg part. But it might be a good start. Naga and forgoten are the same with centaur in this sense.
Something like Wurm in NF is a good example, in my opinion, but dont ask how will they wear armor and wield weapons.

Wurms... there own weapons and stuffs? I think that would be cool. Like have armor a shell, and weapons barbs on their teeth or something. that would be cool. I still haven't signed this I realised...

I agree that some are overused. Personally I wouldn't mind races like the forgotten, mursaat, seers, etc.

The ONLY other race than human Id find acceptable is Dwarves. One of the Deldrimor dwarves, who, for whatever reason, is helping the humans in their quests(or, preferably, a playable character).

give us more choices on our human chars. To many people look alike. As far as the other races, another poster made a good point. What about EoE?

Guild Wars is about fighting as a human with people from the same race but different class's, it built around this concept and will never change even if a lot of people /sign +_+

I want to play as a rain beetle..... roll through town squeaking.
Darksun
I dunno. GW is unique. the whole human only aspect helps that to be the case. I love the tengu, I think they own. and it would be awesome to play one, but I think it's true that it will alter the dynamic of the game. I'm not sure though.

I see races being a very plausible addition to Guild Wars (although I doubt I would use them much myself). World of Warcraft's balance relies heavily on racial attributes and was designed in that fashion. Guild Wars was not and thus can cause many difficulties trying to add them later on.
However, I think having races as just a different model set is fine. All races receive identical Health and Energy. The difference is that non-human characters would receive a general use non-attribute racial skill. If players want to use their race, they must sacrifice a skill slot for their professional skills.

They couldn't do Centaurs...
Way too much of the Nightfall storyline revolves around you being "two-legs". Then again, I'm pretty sure they also call you "human"

Here's what you can do.
When you make a new character, change the size to the smallest. Viola, now you have a halfling.

Thankyou Addone, screw you Kvan, you know you want to be a bird.
And lightblade, my monk is like 4'6" because I did that.. lol I feal like a midget now.
I still think new species would be great. And it would be hilarious if they had new names for all the spells and stuffs. I cant wait for the day they come out with 'bock of healing'.
And I was thinking, what if they made it so your profession was a species, and not just any class. Like, have a new proffession as a Tengu, and you're a tengu!
But there would be the usual drawbacks... It seems the tengu like to steal humans spells and attacks... So they would need a gigantic spell system which had every single spell in the game renamed. So maybe, you're a T/Me, you're main spells could be mesmer spells and you could use a wand? But then how worthless would the class tengu be... Bah I'm going nowhere..
Nevermind,

As said, all characters being humans is something that makes GW stand out of the RPG crowd. Its almost like it people thought that races are required for something to be fantasy, wich is not really so.

I agree it is ridiculous to have additional races, just for the reason to have additional races. Even more so if the races make no sense in the game. Since I have yet to find a single real "Elf" or "Gnome" in any of the three chapters, I would not expect such a race to spontaneously just appear.
Though a handful of viable races have been introduced through the three chapters, as NPCs, short term party members, and even heroes. I would greatly enjoy playing as a different race already presented, such as Centaur, or Tengu.

How about a Charr?! There's still the whole fact that they got kicked outta their homeland, new allies maybe!
But I kinda like being human, I'll play NWN and such for the typical fantasy races, but I completely agree with the increased diversity. Granted they are improving that with more chapters and new looks, and armor that doesn't have inherint bonuses so people pick different ones (although anyone else thinking there are a lot of primevil warriors running about?!)...
