Holiday Storage?

reading Gaile's post - the bit about making things a suprise - i had an awful mental image of loging on to find my characters having two heads and a message saying "ta-da! hat storing problems solved!"

i'm looking forward to seeing what it will turn out to be...

:P

Anyway, we shall see. I can bet that 1 hour after the introduction the first 'whine threads' will be created.

Of course. Because, sadly, if no sincere whine threads have popped up by then, some smart kids will try to look cool and funny by making ironic ones.

I really hope this means they will be implementing armor storage. Afterall the holiday hats are in fact armor, they just have 0 AL.

I'm thinking space for at least 2 complete armor sets and 5-10 holiday hats would do the trick. Or just the same size as the exisiting storage area

No armor storage, alas.

Sorry, but in fact it doesn't sound at all like armor storage. If it does sound like that to anyone, please read again, and if it still sounds like that, then I apologize because the Wintersday feature involves hats, only, and that's how it was intended. (I know, I wrote it. )
So, if it's not a 'strict hat storage addition' but it does involve hats only... I'm guessing this means it will allow us to store hats on individual characters without taking up traditional space. Works for me, but I'm hoping it's not just about holiday hats.

ANet/Gaile, please read this and take it to heart. I really don't want this post to be skipped over, and I don't want it to be lost in the Guru archives unnoticed. I want ANet to see a valid, legit explanation on why I'm so damn adamant on the storage issue. I'm done fighting a war with you over this issue, making snipes wherever I can. It's time for the playerbase to take a more mature stance on this request, and also for ANet to realize that some sort of major compromise needs to put near the top of their To-Do list.

I see lots of demand for real storage upgrades, not only in this thread, but in the similar GWOnline thread as well. Gaile Gray has responded to some of these people, so she can't deny the fact she has noticed this demand. Now it's up to her to relay this demand to the devs. The sad fact of the matter is, hearing about a real storage upgrade would give me more excitement than a new Chapter 4 storyline. I'm not going to flame ANet anymore on this issue. I'm going to try and make them see why exactly this storage upgrade is needed. Not so I can 55 more stacks of ecto, but so I can better play this game the way it was designed.

Hat storage is nice as a "step 1" upgrade to a much larger future fix. Gaile Gray makes it clear that ANet has no current intention to do this, however. I don't think they are oblivious to the current storage limitations, but I do think they are desperately trying to not have to visit this issue at all. Let's be honest here - they are basically telling us not to play their game at all. The only damn thing to do in it is collect stuff, since you max out your power quickly and the campaigns are so freakin' short. We need extra space to hold multiple sets of armors, because the rune system in this game is terrible at maximizing efficiency and build flexibility per storage slot (in PvE). Sorry ANet. I don't want to avoid having a 16-attribute armor set for every decent attribute my class has. 1) I don't have lots of character slots to spread the builds around, and 2) it takes a decent amount of work and repeat-questing just to get a new character back to endgame PvE stuff. I want build flexibility. I want to be able to change my build to max my power out in every area my class offers, at any time. You know, the same types of freedoms PvP'ers have. The rune system, frankly, sucks. My warrior has 16-attribute armor pieces for both sword and axe, for both Gladiator's and Sentinel's armor types. I want this build flexibility to be able to change my character's strengths and weaknesses the way I see fit, at any time, with minimal difficulty. Unfortunately, my Ranger is currently holding my Warrior armor because I simply don't have enough space for my Warrior to hold it, his various weapons, and have room for drops/salvage kits/etc. This is only for TWO armor sets too! My up-and-coming Elementalist is going to need the room to hold four 16-attribute armor sets (in all of the elements), plus maybe a general set for secondary class usage instead. That's a whole lot of space in our current configuration.

Is any of this getting through yet? The current level of storage puts a prohibition on how I can play your damn game. Ideally, I'd like the rune system on armors to be upgraded to Tuoba Hturt Eht's Smart Armor System idea (Guru Suggestion thread, not an outside link), but I realize that would take a bit too much overhaul and time to do. The most basic way I can maximize my build flexibility is to have more storage space - general storage space - to accomodate multiple builds. This game was designed around PvP. Well, now you can change armors and equipment at will on a PvP character without needing ANY decent amount of storage. In PvE we need this extra storage to have similar freedoms. I want to be able to have a shield collection with every Armor +10 vs. <whatever>. I want to be able to take the time to get a collection like that and know that I'll have ample room to store it, and then have some fun using the various shields in different situations. I want to go nuts with the Dmg +20% vs. <whatever> damage mods, the Armor +5 (while taking a dump) inscriptions, the kooky collector-stat-configured items in NF, etc. I can't right now. There's no room to hold stuff like that for "fun" builds while still leaving space for the general equipment I'm going to need on a day-to-day basis. Understand yet? I have to hold my Zealous, Vampiric, and Furious swords and axes right now, plus a few different shields. Limited storage space forces my characters to go the general equipment route instead of having fun with a specific configuration, knowing I can freely change to other specific ones.

If it was a PvP character I could just visit the new dropdown equipment menu and change my equipment stats, at will, with no space penalty. In PvE we need as much space as possible to actually store tangible items. Yes, it's a limitation that needs to be addressed if this game is ever going to meet the promise of full build flexibility, in both PvP and PvE. The game gets boring quick just going with general cookie-cutter builds, you know, but right now that's all we have room to store on our PvE characters. ANet - do you see the real problem us players are having? It's not a sake of, "just give us more for the hell of it." We want more because the game engine requires more for ample build flexibility, ie. the main strength of this game in the first place. Stop ignoring this issue please. Maybe people would stop sticking with the cookie-cutter builds for PvE areas if it was made easier to go with something else.

Once reconnects are done and the kinks on that worked out, hopefully this becomes the new #1 playerbase demand. I hope I've dented the armor a little bit. Weakened the impenetrable force field. Brought some sunshine into ANet's rainy forecast. More storage needs to happen, not to shut up the playerbase, but to help this game reach its potential in PvE. A potential that's been kept at bay for far too long.

My guess would be that the hat storage will be in your inventory menu, like where you have the option to select wether to show your hat or cape in towns , pvp or missions.
We will get a simple menu saying wether to use our armor hat or pick a festival hat.

Just throwing a suggestion out there for your Ele. Put your Energy Storage on your chest or somewhere other than your head and then put the max runes on the varying head-pieces of their type. That way it's just one armor set with 4 different head pieces. That doesn't help with the secondary set you mentioned though.

Yeah, I do that sort of thing. For instance, my Warrior has full Sentinel's and Gladiator's set with swappable Sword and Axe headpieces/handpieces on each. This is to swap the minor with the superior, and also to leave future room to go with a hammer set (using the stonefist gauntlets) if we ever do get more storage.

Still takes up enough storage to hinder me, regardless.

Basic common sense and basic math put this to bed. 9 characters 1 spare set of armor tada 45 slots used. We won't even bother with multiple weapon sets. Hoarding useless junk? The original storage was meant for chapter ONE we are on chapter THREE. Sorry if I think Anet could have addressed this issue sometime in the last 19 months. I for one would rather they made it so I could play the game to its fullest (enough room to play) than them rushing another buggy chapter to market. As I said in my original post ANY storage upgrade is appreciated but the need for REAL storage improvements has to be addressed.

Nice Rose :
Thanks for any update - looking forward to it and storing those hats. Any increase which allows us to store those hats is nice and appreciated. Looking forward to Wintersday and seeing the snow in the desert! AI tweaks are being addressed too - WOOT - I'll be back playing and enjoying the game in no time ...

Naughty Rose :
What the hell are you doing - it's got to be money reasons why you won't just increase base storage. I mean you actually go out of your way to limit storage increases just to hats! How many extra things are there to collect since chapter 1? Must be about 3x items yet you invent a whole new storage system just for hats?

Do you actually want us to spend our time switching from one character to another to juggle items? I'm sorry Anet but if this is a ploy to get me to buy more mule characters I will resist..and frankly I'm very disappointed.

Oh and regarding the AI - it seems that 2 weeks ago there was actually a complete turnaround inside Anet - nearly all the AI threads got a response from Gaile - that yes there were actually REAL problems with the AI and everything was NOT "working as intended". Me-thinks a directive from upon high came about......
And as for appreciating all the work the devs put in - we do but remember that it's also their job and if GW doesn't sell then GW will stop - I work many extra hours on nights and weekends for my job also. Don't expect all of us to get excited and go "OMG Anet RULZ!" coz I can put a hat away.....it could be so much better. Basic question - why did you reinvent the wheel here?

Nice & Naughty Rose
Koudos to the dev team for getting reconnects in. Knock down another major long standing request - there's basically only improved trade left I believe now that observer, reconnects and LFG are done.
I'm sure that that was an extremely difficult problem to resolve but you did it.
Death to Error-7's!!!!
And an LFG mechanism - just when I thought all speech was stolen from GW due to solo play with henchies you do this and resurrect team play! Can't wait. Well done!

Im thinking they might be trying a different type of hat use. She is saying it doesn't work like storage, so it's not going to be a simple storage system. An interesting suggestion I heard was to make them work via titles, so you could have a title checked which gives you the hat, but your old hat stats are still used.

I know this is off topic but since this thread is going off topic anyways....

I agree with TideSwayer post#91, in a way the limited storage is preventing us to fully appreciate the PvE component of the game and become a real problem as more chapters are relased in the future.

Which each new Chapter comes new item/armour skins, holiday stuff and what not. How are we expected to enjoy every new chapter and support it when we can hardly find space to store all the stuff we want/find. I believe i have seen some screenies of players with all female high end mesmer's armour from GWP alone.

Nowadays when i see new armours from the new chapter for the core classes, i get both excited and sad at the same time. Excited that they are getting a new look but sad that i cant get them cause i simply dont have the room. This should never happen in any game at all.

Am i rude, too demanding or whining from the above statements?

No, i am merely expressing a dissappointment that its a pity those sentiments exist and has been endured for so long.

I think that the limits on personall invetory is intended to reduce farming. If you can store more stuff, you can farm more, for longer. This way you are forced to go to a merchant more often.

Yeah but it also takes away getting armors for fun, meaning your game time is longer cause you have to make money for it. Being a collector of various types of weapons/shields/misc. items and what not, or hoarding a bunch of materials.

Plus that's a pretty shoddy reason for it.

im very happy, and grateful to all the update news coming our way for winters day. Thank you Anet, may the whole staff enjoy the season on their own times as well.

i also agree it would be nice to have event hats unlocked by account some day.
we already got armor that can have any stats and look the same, so event hats would be an awesome thing to add to that list. replacing your fow helm skin with a yule cap for awhile, be it pvp or else where would definitely be cool. just like showing your cape or not, same idea. you know?

but nonetheless, thats for another day, thanks again ANet

I would have to agree 3 chapters in the storage really needs to be increased, with nightfall being introduce and the revamp on salvage items my inventory and storage have been swamped with runes, weapon upgrades and materials. With the combination of new weapon drops, new armor, mini pets and then upgrades for my heros I truly have no space left to a point I had to use a extra character slot for a storage mule which should not be the case. Everytime I want to get rid of stuff it fills right back up with something else and now with the winterfest items I am going to be flooded with items again I hope what ever this new storage it is free's up some inventory space.

i don't think we will be getting increased basic storage. the storage is adequate and with this new holiday storage system we should be ok. don't forget we just got a HUGE storage increase in the materials. If you want more storage create a mule or two or three.

If and when the storage is for hats only, that's still 10 or so slots for me to be used for something else, sounds good.

I like the current update.
The reconnect is something which I liked most of all .
Concerning storage.. we shouldn't forget there was already an expansion on storage: the material tab, which wasn't available in the every beginning (pegasux already posted this remind as well).

I would say Aranet is doing a very good job and as several already said in earlier posts: don't underestimate implementation of things in existing code. Surely if:
- the development is achieved with several developers (internal communication must be optimal)
- Databases are involved (which is)... dbase development sounds easy, but it isn't if you really want efficient dbase design
- complexity of the application: I wouldn't call GW a simple written game.. not at all !!!

If all had to be implemented what we players wish to see in the game... where would it end ?

For those who really run to low storrage: just use a character as storrage.
Last of all: do you really need what you got dumped in your storrage (except the mini pets which I liked very much to see appear in the game )?
