Party Search: Additional filtering options
greyf0x_f0x
At Gaile's request, I'd like to suggest an update to the (amazing!) new party search window.
Right now it's spiffy enough, but simply giving us the ability to filter by "purpose" would make finding parties and people much easier.
The easiest way I can think of, would be to simply have a number of checkboxes for each of the "purpose" types (Mission, Trade, Quest, Hunting etc). This would look very similar to the chat window we all know and love. If you don't want to see all the trade requests, simply uncheck it from the party search selection, if you are only looking for mission parties, deselect everything else. It seems a simple enough addition, and should make our lives that little bit easier in busy areas

Agreed. Already seeing some rather immature parties popping up and it would be nice to be able to filter them out. Also, it seems people are using this to sell things... be nice to filter them out too.
Vinraith
/signed I actually like the selling functionality as well, but it would definitely be best to be able to filter for what you wanted.

The ability to filter out the categories you aren't interested in would be much appreciated.

/signed. it was the first thing i did when i opened the screen. i tried to click the title bar to sort the columns and was rewarded with nothing
so yes, sorting would be wonderful, or even better, trade and 'missions and quests' on their own tabs. this would simplify things greatly.

/signed, but wouldn't people use another sorting option to sell things then?
Like "WTS" used to be allowed in all chat, but now it is automatically moved to trade chat.

filter is nice and tabs would be good as said before. If they make a trade tab have it select "Sale" and "Buy" instead of "trade"

Agreed.
Some way of showing guild/alliance members would also be handy.

/sign also. When i first heard of the new party menu i was excited to try it out.. only to see it filled with TRADES. I thought it was suppose to be to help you organize a party. I suggest if you are going to make another way for people to spam trades then make a seperate menu for it. Making parties is for making parties not for trading.
Adding a filter to this would only Bandaid the problem. Why not just make a seperate menu for trading and keep things a little better organized then making trades and parties into the same area.

Already, the major trade centres are saturated with WTS/WTB "Parties". The lazy traders are already using "mission" as their purpose.
As TheGuildWarsPenguin's suggests, even if we get a means to filter parties, I suspect traders will use other "purpose" selections to get their wares to a wider audience.
In general, I suspect this will only be an issue in the large trading centres, I doubt it will affect most missions and outposts. However, it is somewhat annoying that the large bustling hearts of each continent will be a mess of trades, instead of a busy central point where players can quickly team up with fellow quest goers, missionaries and huntsmen. I think to get around this problem, you need to give traders a reason to use their trade channel, instead of the "mission", "quest" or "hunting" settings.
One simple example, would be to grant traders additional length to their descriptions. Currently the description field is limited to 31 characters (roughly a quarter of the length of the 120 we get in the chat window). How about you give traders 250 characters worth of space in their descriptions, whilst keeping quests and missions to 31. This way, traders would have a use for their selection (You could fit advertisments for at least 5-10 items in 250 characters) whilst keeping the filtered party types cleaner.

/Signed.
I was going to suggest this very thing.
Sort by trade or mission or whatever... Even if its just a column header sort toggle. Once that is done you have a fantastic substitute for auction house without the Blizzard lawsuits...
Also anyone hear yet if the festive hat guy will remain after holiday? If so I can get rid of some hats in storage...

My friend pointed out to me a "WTS your mother" in the party window and that was pretty stupid along with all the other non-sense things that people are using it for. A filter would be nice so I don't have to read these idiotic things.

This is straying a little from the simple need for a filter, and is probably out of the scope of the party search functionality. Buuuuut, I can dream :P
One possible way to expand the trade system, would be to firstly make seperate "Trade: WTB", "Trade: WTS" options. But secondly, give sellers the option to drag the items they are trading into their description. Then, buyers could expand the trade parties and be able to browse the items on sale. Here's a mocked up screen of how such a system might work:

How my idea might look:

Heh, I came here to make the same suggestion, but I guess ya beat me to it.
I think that allowing a sort or filter ability would increase functionality of this search system. It would allow people to find what they're looking for even faster and with greater ease than they can now.

greyf0x_f0x, if anet did that, I would have to consider this feature the single best feature since the release of GW. :P

I like this idea. One suggestion I'd like to make is for people to be able to drag the quests they have into the menu as well... it'd save some typing at least.
Maybe even a guild recruiting or looking for guild options would be doable in the future.
EDIT: Another suggestion would be LF or NLF such and such classes.
EDIT2: Maybe the mission option should be disable in non-mission towns or in mission towns were you don't have access to said mission yet (and you shouldn't be able to see the mission ones if the later is the case for you).

It shouldn't increase server load. The details of all the items and such are stored on your local machine, and the network should only be sending you the unique-id of the item to be displayed, I suppose.

I was just in Kamadan and noticed there were people making parties for recruitment and such under the quests and missions. Might want to add that too.
Filter would be a perfect addition to an already great thing. It was just messy looking through all of the groups at once with descriptions like "looking for girlfriend" and "WTS Perfect Mods" together at once.

Although I think this suggestion is really useful. What will end up happening is that the traders will just put their trades under mission.
Its exactly the same phenomenon as the "Trade Channel" and "Local". Its already happening.

greyf0x_f0x idea is nice, with one caveat. It must only be available if you're got trade selected.
With the filter, and yes a big whopping /signed on that one. We're starting to see something very nifty and the drag and drop items is a nice carrot for getting people to use the trade and not spam mission with that kind of crap.
Adding another suggestion.
Make trade the default, rather than as now mission.
Simply put most of those spammers are lazy gits, it won't cut out all of the people spamming trades using the mission, morons will always try and get around things but it'd hopefully catch enough of them that are just to lazy to change from mission to trade to make things bearable.

Add TABS. One tab for missions, one for trade and so on, or ...
This feature could be very similar to a trade house, just need some upgrades. ArenaNet could even make a totally different (new) window just for trade, and remove trade for the Party Search.
And ... change that "Hunting" word and put "Farming" ^_^
