You know, it seems as if every time a new campaign comes out, the amount of good lookign skins decline.

Start from Prophecies ~ Crystalline, Fellblade, Long Sword, IDS, FDS (bad rep now, but meh), Wing Blade/Butterfly, Brute Sword, Flamberge, shadow blade

Factions ~ Crenellated, GPB, Gothic Sword, Platinum Blade, Zodiac Sword, Vertebreaker, Oni Blade

Nightfall ~ Elemental Sword, Dead Sword, Fiery Gladius? (Kinda small), Collossal Scimitar, Tormented Sword?, everything else is too small.

Now, Nightfall has the most skins to offer, but the highest number of crappiness to them. In terms of good skins to total number of skins, the number declines as each campaign comes out.

Thats just the swords.

It's all opinion, but still you still can't deny the fact that a lot of the elonian skins aren't as great, and was a great disapointment to me. Since they claimed it was "the cream of the crop"; I expected better.

Ugh.. named just about every retarded looking hammer. To me anyways. Although the ivory one looks cool. Recently saw a 'Hawkeye Hammer', was kinda cool. I love the Runinc Hammer.. oh, and Mursaat ftw.

I think armor has something to do with it as well, personally. For example, In Factions, there were a lot of cool Katana like blades, but when weilded by a big beefcake warrior with 15k Platemail or Kurzick armor, it just looked silly. If they had put in a more Samurai-like armor, similar to the ones worn by the Zaishen, I'm sure that these skins would have been more popular.

I do think that some of the skins in Nightfall are a bit weak though. Elonian Daggers and Elonian Blades don't look deadly at all, more like Cooking utensils.

Although no one can complain about the Tormented weapons... drool...

EDIT: I think that the Bronze crusher hammer looks stupid as well. You can't just stick random things on the end of a stick and call it a hammer.

Well samurai armor is composed of bamboo, leather and silk. A katana is more than capable of cutting through it.

A katana would not be able to cut through european platemail armor.

To expect a warrior in platemail armor to match the katana is rather silly.

The game is THEMATIC. Just as mixing and matching armor usually doesnt work, mixing and matching weapons from chapters wont work.

Platemail armor matches the Tyrian style Longsword.

Kurzick armor matches the Gothic Sword (or platinum blade)

Canthan armor matches the dao style Longsword and Dadaos.

There is no samurai style armor so the Katana and the Golden Phoenix blade has no real counterpart.

Not deadly to a western knight with full platemail armor. But its a machete style weapon.

The theme of Nightfall is north africa, and the armors of your various targets tend to be very light.

Its appropriate for its theme.

The elonian weapons will never match Tyrian based armors.

I have several Gold crystallines but my favorite sword of all chapters is ... fiery dragon sword (insert insults and laughter). Active graphics ftw!!

I choose weapons purely based on whether I like them or not, NOT their rarity.
Crystallines are absolutely hideous to me, and I honestly believe they are only desired because they're rare.

My current favourites:

Fiery Gladius dyed black

It's OTT, but the flames are so purty, and it dyes incredibly well.

Avian Axe

...even though the LoD modelling is absolutely shite.
It just looks like a proper axe, with a nice little design flourish.

The good ol' Stefan Longsword

It's not long, it's not sparkly, it looks used, but it looks eminently practical and looks like it would hurt.
And it comes in any colour you want, so long as it's black.

Just because something is easy to get, it doesn't mean it looks bad.

Ironically, I often find that the stuff that IS easier to get (such as my armour which you can catch a glimpse of in the above shots), is the least seen in the game, and hence the most uniquely individual.
I had a guy stop me in DoA recently as he recognised me from my armour screenshots in the Screenshot Exposition forum. He was impressed with the set and liked the style, and it stood out from the crowd.
How many FoW warriors can say they've had THAT happen, eh?

Go for unique rather than rare. It makes much more of an impact.

Also, weapons are much more about personal choice rather than what others will see.
Unless it's overly ostentatious, like the Fiery Dragon Sword / Fiery Gladius / Zodiac weapons, most people aren't going to notice what you're hitting the enemy with in the heat of battle, so that small fortune you've spent on something shiny most likely won't make an impact with others unless you spam what you're using.

This is doubly so with caster weapons.
Other people couldn't give a damn about what shape of stick you're waving at the enemy.
That choice only impacts your aesthetic sensibilites.

I lusted after a Gothic Sword for quite a while until a guildie hooked me up with one. Similarly, I'm looking for an avian axe from NF. (YES! someone understands! it DOES look like a nice proper axe!)

All three campaigns are going to have items people like and don't like, due to the differing themes dictating certain styles of weapons. This is one of my sore points, though, people who like certain weapons or armors in the earlier campains miss out on the new upgrade potentials.

Take my platemail for example. I love my plate; I worked my little noob butt off to get it, and love how it looks, but it's hard to justify keeping it around for any reason other than looks when I can get functionally better armor crafted in Elona.

I did get a fair bunch of people - who probably don't have Prophecies - visibly gawking at me as I went about my way in Nightfall, at first.

Quite Vulgar [FUN]

Sword from fav on down
long sword (elonian)
Brute
Vertebreaker (this swords needs to be bigger)
Gothic

Axe:
Zodiac
Gemstone
Sickle
White axe

Hammer:
Righteous maul
Summit hammer (can't go wrong with a giant cinder block)
Ice Breaker

One thing I would like to comment on is hammers are not worth anything because they have great greens. Also hammers are better on thumpers than wars.

I don't know why so many people like Fellblades. I have an r9 gold fellblade, and I hate it. I think it's one of the uglier swords in the game.

But then again, i'm one of the few people that actually really like the Igneous Blade.

Hates:

I used to always use axes because they looked great in tyria. I farmed forever to try and find a max sickle, then the hall of hero's changed and victo's axe came along, I was pretty happy to get it max an all that. Then everyone started useing it and it got old. Then when factions came out, the best sword ever appeared, the gothic sword, and as soon as I got my 14^50 I havn't used anything else since. I wouldn't mind a 15^50, or 15 -5e. I havn't found one of them yet though

I couldn't agree with the OP more that Chapter 1 had the best looking skin for both Warrior.Ranger and Castors and off hands as well as shields.I just like the Falchion and Long sword.I am haveing a hard time finding another one especially a 15^50.I couldn't believe how bad the castor end game greens were in comparison to Factions and the stats weren't that great.I prefer the bows in Tyria as well.Yes the Golden Phoenix is nice if you can get the right one.

You've got to be joking. Prophecies bows were either plain or ugly.

Prophecies and Factions were nice when it came to skins. They had some normal skins, some oh well skins, some magically looking skins. Something for everyone. When it comes to Nightfall everything just looks like plain Collectors Stuff :/

Yes, It is really a matter of taste. I personally love design of these weapons ...

Swords - Fellblade, Long Sword, Crystalline, FDS, IDS, Zodiac
Axes - Sephis, Mallyx's Reaver (awesome imo), Chaos, Gothic Dual
Hammers - Only Mussaat for now
Shields - Aegis, Gloom Shield, Exalted Aegis, Eternal, Tormented

I don't have the real one of Tormented weapons, but looking on wiki seem that it's quite expensive when comparing with their designs (except the shield). what do you think?
