Why does this happen?
Taurucis
Everyone knows the "If you aren't r6+ you're a noob" Hero's Ascent players. What I am wondering is, what starts it? I understand that they want to win, but why do they have to be so snobbish about it? Why do they stuff their deers/wolves/tigers in your face and laugh at you? Do they know that every player is a real person, and has real feelings as well?
There's this person I see quite often in Marhan's. He once joined a FoW team I was in, and aggro'd every monster on the map and drew them back to the party. During our short time there, he would constantly beat up on our warriors and harass one of our elementalists. And if anyone tried to argue, he would display his tiger emote and tell them to shut up.
Later I went to Marhan's and asked if that person was there. He was. After a short while talking.. I mean arguing.. with him, I eventually concluded that he was the kind of player who would drive you insane just for fun, and then pull rank on you. Why do people act like jerks for no reason?
I also noticed that anyone who discusses feelings is branded "emo" or "whiny crybaby" or "pathetic." What is wrong with emotions? If you are incredibly stressed and angry, is there anything wrong about kindly explaining the reason for a hot-tempered outburst?
Finally, I notice a lot of "girly girls" in Guild Wars. They're surrounded by friends, and the only things they know how to say seem to be "but i'm hawt!" "" "" "T_T" and they're incredibly annoying. It could be that they're role-playing, but then again, I don't know of anyone who role-plays in Guild Wars. They are almost always female elementalists in the skimpiest armor known to Guild Wars. Amazingly, most of them have a rank emote. How do people like these get any friends? If the GW community is bent on only befriending the best, how did these annoying people get their rank emotes?

that my friend is what we call a "leet player" since he has his r9 he is allowed to yell at lower ranks and curse out anyone he wants that is below his rank once you get r9 you automatically become better then half of the guild wars population. Noob
SPIRIT OF THE SEA
Same adzact kind of thing happens to me often. I happen to be only r2 and pretty close to r3. The problem why its taking so long is that all the good groups that do good req high ranks such as 7+ 9+ 12+ (>_<) and i wonder how did they get such high ranks if they were low ranks too. Well when i asked in HA they all said "stfu emo dumb ass we 1337 we have high ranks you dont so go suck my dick". Now i got pissed and told this at a gaile gray meeting. No response. Probally because its un-fixable considering you cant change someones mind if their stuck up retards
Now i bet some r9 peson or some r7 peson is reading this now and saying quit complaing and suck it up

IMO people who discriminate based on rank should be banned. Rank means nothing. People who buy high ranked accounts should also be banned permanently. It's against the EULA.
As for this idiot, I have seen him and he has said many things that should be censored. If the put a Gamemaster or similar in marhan's grotto this annoying player would be banned ages ago.
I know exactly who Taurucis is referring to(she told me in game) and the offending player was definitely in violation of the Rules of Conduct.
@Spirt of the sea:I'm rank 2 and have 65 fame to go to get r3. I was in HA and looked for a group, one kicked me because i wasn't rank 3. So I made my own group and got 1 fame. Also, PLEASE DO NOT DOUBLE POST
On a side note, I believe this rank elitism is what makes the American Heroes Ascent player base look like it's throwing Dancing Daggers into its own feet.(crippling itself) Maybe if everyone would relax, and give some newbies a chance, America would actually win favor.
Why don't they just take out the ability to show your rank. Any idiot knows that that's the solution. Make high ranked guilds guess at your rank XD.

Eh.. I forgot to mention. The jerk I spoke about was aggro'ing on purpose, not by accident. He'd look for the choicest mobs and draw them back, saying "Ha ha, scrubs."
LordFFM
I'm not interested in HA, but it is still fun to see these 1337 players spam their emote before dying 10 seconds later in RA, or even in a NF mission they were running "master only - no noob"...
You can't do anything against stupidity... Don't let them ruin YOUR game.

I've never seen a PvP game that did not have some of this kind of elitism.

Joining a guild for HA isn't as easy as you think. What if they want r6+ players only? What if they say "You must come HA at least twice a day or you are kicked" I joined Taurucis' guild for a reason: it is a FUN guild. There are no rules except "dont say anything inappropriate and dont be a jerk." I find FHSR to be an excellent guild for PVE and if I make my own guild I will continue on the tradition.
@Arkantos
Taurucis is the guild leader of FHSR. Why do you want her to give up her guild?

2. IMPORTANT: Make friends. (If you can't learn how to make new friends, you're going to have a crappy time anywhere, not just in Guild Wars! *I* am antisocial and I have more than 2 friends!)
3. Make groups with friends (you did make new friends, right?) and see if those friends have any friends.
4. Once you've got a regular group going, see if they're interested in forming a guild.

Yes, but the majority of people playing female Eles are guys who like to have pretty characters to look at. So you go to a place where you know idiots reside. I'm fairly certain there are more places to go than just Marhan's Grotto. 1. Join PUGs you know to have decent people, i.e. people on #gwp. 2. IMPORTANT: Make friends. IF Taurucis wants to hang onto an inactive guild and alliance, that's their choice, but if they make that choice then they don't have much of a reason to complain. To me, being part of a good guild is far more important that staying leader of a dead one. |

I was about to rage here, thanks Savio for making the day easier.
I'll give you one logical statement, easy to understand.
1. Ranked = Experianced.
2. People (generally) learn from experience.
3. Ergo, a ranked player is probably a better player than an unranked. (notice that it's not definite.)
1. My team wants to win.
2. Good players kill bad players.
3. Ergo i need good players.
Easy as pie.

Taurucis i honestly thought you were one EMO kid... then you said you were not then I thought you are probably just a girl... turns out you are... here is one good advice to excel.. GET RIGHT FRIENDS...
although it may not seem like it your friends in the game are mostly the ones that hold you down... most HA people are their because they sacrifice friendship to excel because not all of your friends are good and if they are not they should be kicked... Friends come and go...
Being a girl gives you an edge.. you can get into groups just act cute and be decent... if you want into good guilds be like can i join and act girly in vent and get into top 50 guilds then HA with them sometimes problem solved ....
Your question about why they rank you and call you noob was not always the case... early in the game everyone was proud of their rank but not going around offending others. Many reached high rank at end of summer of 2005 but the rank 0 PvE FoW armor noob warriors got jelous of those guys and started running the easiest gimmick build called IWAY ... many months after they got their rank9 they like to show it off to others and make noobs feel bad and make themselves feel proud that they iwayed their fame...
all these hurt feelings and stuff you talk about do not exist... because this game is made up of guys... and unlike many girls they could give a F!@# if you suck if you do then dont play atleast that is their policy... i hate to be Darwinistic but thats the truth... Guys have a different take on skill and less room for the ones lacking behind.
But I hope everything works out.

advice: never hang out in marhan's grotto. the place is always full of idiots. rank flashers, players who talk about how their armor is better than everyone else, pplayers arguing, players telling that they're 133t and the grotto wh--e she leeches off everyone.

im not going to say its easy because it is not... and im not going to say it isn't gona take time.. it can take over a year to get your rank9 depends on how much you play. You won't get it by crying about it. Go out and play. I do know a few r9+ girls out there and they do play well so its not impossible.

Fame farming was the final screw in the fame system coffin.
Want to get in a decent HA guild? buy the fame..thats how many PvE people got into PvP guilds
Take the money they farmed and get fame farmed to R6.

I think the main problem with idiots seems to be more focused in the American Servers. I changed to European servers about 1 or two months after starting guild wars. The only complaint I have is that sometimes there are no people around in the mission I want to do, but I've since learned to do missions eariler in the day, and trading and solo stuff later.
Generally, I've found that the whole society of the Euro districts is much better. The people are much more open, espessially with regards to language.

Top 50 guilds dont follow orders all the time. Most top guilds are laid back about everything but GvG. They are players just like you its just they are a bit more experienced and know when to be serious.

Dang i hate people like that. Just because you may be good at pvp ( you may even not be cuz of fame farming ) Doesn't mean your good at pve! They are to different styles of gaming and two different types of skill. If he is truely Leet than he should show his skill doing a good job and not wrecking the group and wasting your time. Why does this happen? People are jerks, human nature. People like to be the center of attention. Since your friend did what he did in FoW shows he is a noobie himself, mabey not in pvp but in Pve. If he wants to man up and be a true leetist he needs to do it thru skill.
My advice? Tell your friend to go back to pvp and show his rank to someone who cares.

Your so wrong with your #1 Ranked=Experience no way most Ranked players i have seen might be good players in HA but are junk in any group in pve, there have been a few that are good at both but not many at all. Thats just my 2 1/2 cents lol

PvP players that are high ranked means that you have a good understanding of the skills and how to manage energy and perform under pressure efficiently.
Not most pve players cannot perform well under pressure because there is no need to, if you die you just go in again or wait to be rezed.
PvE players do know areas as well as boss mobs, green locations, farm spots, and other pve related material better than 60% of PvP players. Most pvp players got there from PvE. Though they might not play extensively in pve they do know the basics of new areas and do keep updated with the PvE news if they don't they usually know PvP player that does know the info and get the scoop.
I'm not saying one is better than the other because PvE players obviously outnumber the PvP but monks are prime example in PvE of why i prefer Hero monks. When you get to areas such as Elite mission most monks and players on that level play well so PvE monks are not all noobs. Just many tend to be less exp. I still find it hard to believe poeple still use healing breeze in PvE as a healing skill with no energy management.

People who act like that are socially impaired people who use the internet as an outlet for their emotions. They're the virtual schoolyard bullies, and the internet makes them immune and brings out the worst in them. As with troublesome kids, the best thing to do is ignore them and let them play their own game.
As for rank discriminators, you can't ban them, because it's a choice they can make which is effectively similar to guilds who only want people from a certain country or groups who won't take mesmers. It sucks, but it's not against the rules, noone is forced to play with anyone they don't like, and if someone doesn't like people with low ranks, that's just how it is. It would suck equally if there were rules forcing you to accept anyone who asks to join.

I suggest taking a leaf out of the other RPG industry:
"Don`t work with animals or children."
Seems to me those who flash emotes are usually children or "no life" teenagers and I want nothing to do with them. Pets on the other hand are ok sometimes.

Alleji, I'm not naming any names.
Its not that I want a PvP guild. I just like to run around with a friend or two and some heroes, and do whatever we want. IMO there isn't any fun in following orders. Unfortunately, some people have no idea that there are some people who don't think following someone's orders every second they're online is "fun." They have the mentality that "if I can do it, then you should too. Stop whining."
I met up with a couple people like that in Dzagonur Bastion while I was randomly insulting the mission "Once upon a time Dzagonur Bastion exploded and the whole world was happy. The end" and some snob said "if you can't do the mission you should quit GW"
I really wish my Aura of Everyone-Hate-Me would go away. My ignore list is filling up exceptionally fast.

If you're actually serious about getting into HA, here's some advice.
First, read this post: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10105129
I thought it was rather well written.
Second. People will be ranked higher than you. They wont let you in their group. You have three options:
1. Beat them at their own game. Start your own groups, take charge.
2. Sneak into groups. It's actually really easy and I did this alot when I was R1 and R2.
3. Griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind it. Stick it out 1-2 fame at a time with your friends (don't have any? go make some!). If you have fun doing it, great! if not, why do it?
It takes a while to rank up. But once you get to that higher level, you'll realize why people want ranked players. Does that give them the right to be a jerk about it? No, not really. But if you know how to play the game, learn to listen when someone gives you advice or tells you how to play a roll, you can develop into a great PvPer.
My name's Terashi. I was once a R0 Pug. I lead Rejects and Refugee's [RnR] (rank 70 on ladder). I am Rank 8 (3315 fame). I remember being in your shoes exactly. Trust me, all will be well.

I'm a dedicated PvEer myself so I've come across PvP leetism before, I've found it best to ignore it and carry on doing my own thing.

I understand what you're getting at here - how could I not, it's pretty obvious. I've seen a lot of it too, especially the Heros Ascent bit, and have some issues with that.
I enjoy PvPing, and have learned a heck of a lot in the time I've spent in HA. In about a monk I earned a little over 100 fame, bringing my current total to something like 138 (haven't checked in a while since I haven't PvP'd in the few weeks I've been going ot school).
Rank does in many ways mean that a person may be a more coordinated player. In reality, PvP and PvE play are very similar - the only major difference is that one pits you against NPCs and the other against PCs. I understand the folks that say they want to start a group that is full of higher ranked people when creating a PUG in HA because there are plenty of people that come there with one goal in mind, which is to get to the top (I just PVP for the heck of it, to have fun and to learn, with a more eventual "get to the top" attitude) as fast as is humanly possible.
However, nobody has to be an arse about it. I've had people flash their emotes at me and expect me to kiss their feet. Are you serious? There isn't one thing I'd kiss on those people, because no matter how good a player you are, an asshole is an asshole is an asshole, period. You could be the best player in the world but if you act like that I'm not going to pay you any mind.
I've met people while forming PUGs in HA who have said very politely that they'd rather have higher ranked people in their groups because they want to run a certain complex build, etc. etc. If you tell me this without biting my head off then hats off to you, and you've earned some small amount of respect from me. If not then again, you're just making a fool of yourself.
I'll have my Rank3, 4, 5, 6, 7+ someday, but since I don't PvP often enough to get it fast, it'll definitely take me some time. I've got no issues with it, nor do I have issues with others. If you don't want me then I don't have to come, simple as that, but you can't honestly believe that you can hurt my feelings nor that I give a rat's rear how long you've been running this that or the other build. *shrug*
I play Guild Wars to have fun. I find groups to play with all the time; just takes some patience. Like everything in life, to get to the good you have to wade through the bad. But hey, like someone else said earlier, one of your options is beating them at their own game. Earn your fame and then play with whoever you like. Might take a while but I'd hope you would be playing for the fun of it all anyway.
