Mapping Out by Aylee Sedai
BrettM
Fantastic news, and welcome back, Aylee. I love your program, and have recommended it to many members of my guild and alliance. They all love it, too, and thank me for the recommendation.
I do have a few requests for new features at some point down the road:
1. Location of Artisans, with a list of the materials they craft.
2. Location of SS/LB bounties in Nightfall.
3. Location of quest-giving NPCs. At least the ones out in explorable areas.
Thank you (and your team) for all the hard work you've put into this tool.

I have to say "SORRY" for being so lazy and so absent! Anyway, directly to the point: I'm working on MappingOut again. I think next week I will be able to release a new update, with GWEN maps, elites and greens. No dungeons will be added for now... I have to think about them (18 maps on more levels... damn!) So, concluding, MappingOut is back! ![]() |
Anet is lazy with weapons as well emerald, obi, ele, all 2d weapons that looks shitty.

Aylee, you are without a doubt the total best!!!! I love your program.

UPDATE 06-09-2008 (v4.0.0)
MappingOut is back with its companion GW:EN!
Sorry for being so lazy in the last year. I've been... delayed!
This is the first update containing the Eye of the North extension. It's still uncomplete, since all stuff related to dungeon is missing.
Well, let's stop chittering and have a look at the new version.
Since a new campaign has been added and we reached the number of four campaigns I decided to rise the version number to 4.0.0 (as udoh suggested me, long time ago).
major updates
- added pets informations: locations, images, levels of all charmable pets.
- removed options tab and added a menu conatinaining old options and something more (by udoh)
- added GW:EN maps (save dungeons').
- added GW:EN elites (save dungeons').
- added GW:EN greens (save dungeons').
- added GW:EN pets (save dungeons').
minor updates
- added conditional spawn to "Shekoss the Stony" in "Joko's Domain" (by Gatzu)
- fixed position of Boss Ssaresh Ratler in factions (by Gatzu)
- fixed a bug in the elite filter by boss name.
- fixed "Shiverpeaks" name, wrongly listed before. (by udoh)
- fixed statistics of Savannah Heat, wrongly listed (OutlawFMA)
- fixed description for "Elemental's Construct" in Sunjiang District (By Zander)
- changed Elonian Treasure system. Now, you can select the date on which you last opened that treasure. (by udoh)
- changed locations textes displayed in elite locations list. Now the zone is shown for first.
---
Unfortunately I... ehm... lost the password to enter one of my ftp (-_-). This means the ftp "La Ruota del Tempo" into the update is no longer working.

A great update! The addition of pets and the ability to enter the date of treasure runs are nice touches. Thank you.

Thanks BrettM,
I think pets deverve a mention in MappingOut.
They fight for us.
They suffer for us.
They die for us.
They're friends, rather than merely animals.
May the Light always protect our little companions.
And may the Light shine on you all, my friends.

Hi skretth,
this is pretty strange, but as I know my update system, I believe you completely!!! Surely, it's the worse part of all MappingOut software.
About mappingout site I have a problem with the blog platform and I could add new message nor update any pages. Anyway, the download link points to the updated mappingout version.
So these are the solutions:
1) go on www.mappingout.com in the download section and download the ZIP files. It contains MappingOut v4.0.0
2) You could do another try, before proceding with the download. And I will appreciate if you could do this, because it would show me what the problem could be. In your PERSONAL folder under MappingOut folder there should be a file named: LastUpdate.txt. have a look at the date showed there. maybe it's more updated than it should be. Try to se to the passed month (such as 01-06-2008). Save the file and launch the update. This is a try, I know. But if it works, please tell me
Thanks again and sorry for the matter

For some reason the names on the outposts/towns are like... doubled. It doesn't happen on GWEN though. It seems like it has the words from the in-game map, and then the same words from Mappingout overtop of it.
Aylee Sedai
Deadly Bunny,
you make me confirm my idea that my UPDATE system sucks.
what happened to you is that you didn't have the maps updated. GWEN maps are new so they have been downloaded. But for some reasons you still have the very old maps for the other campaigns.
Here a GLOBAL solution for my update bugs:
If you encounter an update problem DELETE the file LastUpdate.txt into the PERSONAL folder. The update will download all files and everything sould be updated.
I'm very sorry for this problem. I will try to realize something for INTELLIGENT!!

Good Deadly Bunny,
I'm happy you succeeded in downloading everything. Now this confirms my suspects: I have to redraw my update system -_-

You definetely fixed one thing: my update doesn't work.
Ok, this is a fact. But your problem remains and I have no idea what happened at the download time, but for sure something went wrong and some files are corrupted. This assumption derives from the fact that it MUST work

Now, how to cure that?
Try this: create a new empty folder. Copy UPDATE.EXE in that folder and launch it. It will download everything again. I know, I know, this is not a good way to proceed, but I'm really sorry to admit I have no idea why you should get that error

If after doing this MappingOut works, copy your personal folder in this new folder and you will have all you data updated.
As everyone could have seen by the number of crashes occurred during MappingOut usage, I didn't pay too much attention at MappingOut solidity. I didn't add any CRC control other data files. I assume data files as valid. Moreover I decided to use NOT encrypted data files, in order to let other user to manage them. Well, this has not been a good idea. Now I know.
Maybe, after releasing the update containing GW:EN dungeons and collectors, I could spend some times in fixing these problems, making the software a little bit solid.
Sorry again to everyone encountered problems.
I hate creating problems.
Blood and bloody ashes!!

Unfortunately, this new copy is also crashing, and with the exact same error message as the original.

This is pretty unusual!
Now, we have some possiblities left:
1) make a zip file of the whole folder and send the zip to me ([email protected]). I will debug and try to investigate. This is the best choice.
2) Really, I would have liked having another possibility to spare, but I could think about anything else

I've just updated to the new version of mapping out, but seem to be having a font problem.
The font used in the legend and the item descriptions is now unreadable. A sample is visible at http://gw.dawnmist.net/MappingOutLegend.png
I'm guessing that I don't have the right font so Windows is defaulting to something awful, but am not sure what to look for. Any suggestions?

Hi dawnmist,
I like this kind of "informatic" matters. Where no reasonable answers can be given. Why should I say this? First because I didn't change niether legend nor descriptions font. Second because I'm using a standard font (or better, I thought it were!): Small Fonts.
Anyway, I encountered visualization issues only on machines where them has been changed to something else with a different default characters size.
But I don't think this is the case. Mostly, which operative system are you using? I didn't test MappingOut on WindowsVista much longer

I will investigate, trying to discover something new.

OS: WinXP SP2
It sounds like one of my standard fonts may have been screwed up. I'll hunt through google for further info.
Thank you for the assistance
Edit: It's definitely the font itself - anything below 12 point in that font is unreadable. 12 point itself is very bad - it doesn't seem to be anti-aliasing the font for 36 point or below. I've got a partial screenshot of the WinXP font view for Small Font at http://gw.dawnmist.net/SmallFont.png
I needed to update my graphics drivers a week ago (Spore), and reconfigure the screen size after doing so - so I'm guessing that Windows decided to install a different version of that font at the same time - one that is just simply revolting. *kicks machine, stupid machine*.

Pretty curious, dawnmist,
since "Small Fonts" should show fine only at small size (from which the name
)... What you have should be called "Very Big Font"!!! I could have a look ans see if I can set the font as a parameter into the options, but I think it would cause other thousands visualization problems.
May the FONT shine on you.

Yeah, I noticed that yesterday.
Come back, Aylee - we miss you
[Edit] A very old version (1.8) is available here on Guru.
It happily updates itself to v3.1.1 - which seems to be the latest available at the moment.

unfortunately, the mapping out site has expired.

Atm I just have it in a random map, which means I have to swap between gw and mapping out.
Is there a way to get the info on the map in gw?

Have their been any updates to the MappingOut data since v4.0.0?
I noticed that the collectors and some of the other information for EotN is missing and/or incorrect. Just wondering, before I attemp to add stuff on my own, if it exists elsewhere and I just have not found it yet.
Does anyone know if Aylee is still (semi-)actively working on the program?
(On a side note, it seems rather strange to me that so many of the GW programs are slowly expiring despite GW2 coming eventually. While I realize that substantial differences will exist between the two games, I cannot believe that creating a fully functional GW1 program would not become 75% of the work for a GW2 program. But if the existing software is not current, it makes it nearly impossible for the GW2 software to get up to speed upon release of the new game. Admittedly internet access speed is up, and wikis are great - but failures occur. Take note of the downtime during the recent Wintersday Festival.)

I have done work to include the newest info from the war in Kryta storyline. Right now I have elite locations, Greens, and some of the Collectors. I also added a map to the underworld so you can see the locations of the Black Widow. I also updated many of the charmable pet images.

Hmm... Perhaps after we've gotten more info together we could swap data. I'm just beginning my efforts.
Besides the holes I noticed, I've also been looking at the data and what is put where and why. In the process I've noticed some discrepancies - but its a bit tentative at the moment. Trying to make sure that I'm understanding the intent as well as the usage. I've tried making changes and have hit some of the program limits in the process.
Anyway, I'm online infrequently - so it might take me awhile to respond.

I would definately be interested in hearing about any changes

I've never been able to get v4.0 to work - uninstalled/reinstalled several times, etc. So, I'm quite happily back to v3.1, and it works like a charm!
(Not having EotN data is worth having the rest of the program work, in my opinion.)
