Gaile Speaks on chapter 2!

I agree, something needs to be done about IWAY. Last night, I joined a pickup IWAY group just to fool around. I'm not even used to playing IWAY, seeing as I usually choose balanced first. Anyway, on Burial Mounds, we came up against rank 10 Idiot Savants (iQ). We rocked them and they had a very nice balanced build. Does this mean we're better? hell no. iQ is an awesome guild whom I've received several ass kickings from. Under no circumstance should they be looked down upon because of that, we were just lucky enough to have an adequate caller. I believe IWAY should be changed to work the way it's supposed to work, and that's all. No more pet targetting.
btw; to iQ, thanks for the wonderful GVG's we've experienced with you, no matter how grim they were for us :P

and I rebuke my rebuke from earlier. I'm more 65/35 on the idea now. But, if we continue to play as Humans, I won't complain. I'd just like to get rid of the Elementalist Male dance since he is the only dance that continues at the same thing while everyone else restarts!

I also just saw them last night lose in about a minute and a half to an EOE build. Boy if just one monk had brought Mark of Protection...or even get silly and bring Fertile Season. Then I saw them on the very next match win against another balance build. But hey, maybe the next match they lost to an Air Spike.....so do something about IWAY...carry perhaps two counter skills and voila'....you have just player nerfed them.
Also last night I saw a top 20 rank guild lose to a team made up entirely of the Paladin Pre-Builds.....Nerf Wammos PLEASE Anet!
Gah.

easy example - 3 characters for unlocks (all covered, yes it forced your choices, possible remakes) 1 for pvp (so you can make use of said unlocks/try all primaries there) you get wife to join (more money for ANet - another $50!) - goodbye PvP for my account (and point of unlocks!) so I can pre-sear/play with her through game she gets interested enough to go another character - umm seeya in post sear... Never had a game like this with so few character slot options Add in expansion with 2 more character slots and more combinations... It's such a big deal to me I won't even get to the lack of inventory space with all the gosh darn crafter items, collections, event items, and just trying to keep some ability to configure your primary/secondary skill line with equip. |
The only option right now is to buy another copy, and even that is not a very good solution. I'd have no way to transfer items between chars, besides guildies holding them (And if they're not on?...). Not only that, but I would have to be invited into my guild twice, and I'd have to unlock stuff for PvP all over again. That, or delete a char from my current acount. And hey, when C2 comes around I'll bet I'd have to buy another copy of that!
As much as I want more char slots, I will not buy another copy. I will hold out for C2, and hope ANet does things right this time around.

If you mean "Realism" as in a grapical sense then I would have disregarded the comment.

Now since this is all speculation here is my two cents on new races issue. Anet seems to have already set the standard on toon distinction. We are recognized by our class, not race. However race isn't only Dwarf, Elf, Human, or little green martian. The Webster New World Dictionary defines race as "any of the different varieties or populations of human beings distinguished by a) physical traits such as hair, skin color, body shape, etc...". If i remember correctly there is this whole character creation section where you pick each of these. At the end of the definition it says "... loosely, a) any geographical population..." Hmmm, where does this assassin come from? Maybe the whole new race idea is just a new population of people. |
Classes In Guild Wars is referred to by the word "PROFESSION". The Assassin Class is a Profession. Meaning that ANY species could be an ASSASSIN. Just like the many races of Scoripions, some of them are the Necro, Warrior and Ranger class.
BUT new species to play would be nice. Actually having a home place for the Char would be great, but would call up a concern for access to some human worlds, like Ascalon. Playing as a Char would automatically ban you from warping to any part of Humanoid Ascalon. But would present some "new" perspective and PvP options if Anet played their cards right.
NOW, if they were a supporting species of the Humanoid race, then they should be a new type with its own territory. That in turn would not affect traveling to any of the Humanoid places. Like the Centuars for example. They are not new but they shouldn't just be there for enemie's sake.

Oh yes, the Centaurs. I forgot about them. If you ask me, they're a race that is hardly detailed in anything, including Dungeons and Dragons.

If two more professions are added, and only two more slots are added, or, just one (Following the current logic) nothing will have been changed. There needs to be one slot per primary class at the very least. An aditional slot for a PvP char would be nice, but not as vital as one per primary. I would love to play each primary class, but to do so I would have to DELETE a char I worked many many hours on, or buy another copy. Both are poor options. I'm repeating myself, see previous post.

More slots would be the best, i don't see how i can try and/or keep class i like and consider collect some items for each of them.
In fact i'm doing it, each time i change character i spend 5-6 min using my vault to empty his own slots and give items to others.
Considering event items, often 2 set per character, several weapons, crafting materials and so one.. (and how i get my drop if i had to keep all my character items on him)
I played all characters with one account, i had to delete my Mes and Ele to get the others ( i play 4 because i like them all, totaly different play style, i don't use PvP characters i use my PvE for it)...
So if a new one is coming (Assassin) am i suppose to delete one to try and rebuild one if i dislike the Assassin, what a waste of time and gold.
(who care gold lol i already did it twice and recycle ^^,
and i will eventually delete one anyway to get back a Mesmer (love them),but redo the whole quests with henchmen - i won't debate on random PuG and waste time- is way boring ).
And a new character place alone will only had me more items to keep and finally less place.

No word at all, that the matter. (or she forgot because it's obvious there will be ~dreaming~)
Edit: or the fact that extension could be consider as a new game means an other account connected to the first? ^^

I would love pvp to be race based...char on humans...humans vs dwarves. Humans and dwarves vs Mursaat....whee.
Or hell just through in the posibility where a team of 8 humans and 8 char are in the same instance and "may" run into each other as they...ok I know it's WoWish but that's one of the few things I really liked about it.

I personally would like more options for my pet. Like for example, the ability to better control when they attack. To use a example, in WOW they allow you to make your pet passive or aggressive. And no, I am not a WoW fanboy, and have no desire to become one, just to better get across what I would like to see with my pet.

All these talks about new races and pets are making me dizzy.....
Really, can we just have Charm Animal and Comfort Animal merged into one single skill? Most dedicated beastmasters want to see this done more than some silly killer bunny. Please, Gaile?

Having said that, Gaile still has not mentioned how they can improve Beast Mastery. I refuse to believe BM is as "balanced" as they think. Has she ever tried it to compete with a pure BM build? It's decent but not competitive enough IMO.
Can Gaile talk about Assassin now? What's the next new Class???
PS: There should be at least one Character Slot for each class. 4 Slot is a joke.

No. Only 7. Your designers gave us the outstanding ability to switch secondaries at will, so there's only a need for one for each primary + a pvp slot.

How about 2 or 3 more character slots on the next update? Please?

if they were to initially give more than like 5 slots, they would have to start charging a monthly fee :P
Because it means we would be taking up more space on their server and therefore they would need more bandwith. But I bet ArenaNet is on such a strict budget that an increase of more than 15% in bandwith will make them have to charge a monthly fee atm.
I bet they also have to bring tables from home to fill in the faculty cafeteria.

And considering they keep track of stuff like how many times we kill a mob in a certain zone etc.. the storage space is a *moot* point. They are currently more than happ to burn space to SCREW *us*.

I think she was being silly. (Hope so anyway.) I would love 1 slot per primary character (so 6....8 with chapter 2). I play everything even tho my true love is a Ranger. I have put all 6 classes through the game and am now being forced to redo the ones I deleted earlier now that I have surrendered and bought a second account. I'm betting that we only get 1 more slot tho. It would suck but its better than nothing.

As far as allowing a PvP slot, having the PvP and PvE slots completely separate. You could toggle between PvP/E screens at sign on and hold 4 characters for each rather easily. I could definitely see the need for more storage space as well. Take the holidaze as an example. For Halloween and Wintersday, there were bunches of specific items that most people will want to hold on to, probably for quite a while. Possibly you could buy additional lockers at incremental rates. The first one is 100 gp, the second is 500 gp, etc. Or even having 'personal' and 'account' separate storages.
On the BM/CA comment for Rangers, I think it would make a certain amount of sense to combine these two. At the same time, it makes you decide if you want the healing/rez ability in leu of an attack skill as per a healing vs smiting monk.

I really do not understand all the whining about not enough slots. GW has got to be the least expensive game ever. Consider this, if you made the max of 4 characters and played them all through the PvE game (ignoring PvP), and it took 100 hours for each, that's 400 hours of playing. The game costs $50. So that means it costs 12.5 cents per hour of fun. Twelve pennies!
You could flip burgers at the local fast food joint for one hour ($5 per hour) and be able to buy 40 hours of gaming!

This game on the other hand gets tiring "running around" killing the same thing over and over again for the teenie weenie loot they now give. lol Mobs every 10 ft apart, that's kindof a laugh too. It makes the zones seem massive, but, once you clear them out, you really can see how small they really are.

Gaile,
I think its sounds great the comming chapter 2 update, I wish the whole team all the best to make it work fine in the comming months.
But there is one thing which concerns me in the current GuildWars world and i hope you can tell me whether that is gonna change?
My concern is the following;
I love to play PvE and think its great to get that fantastic armor, beautiful looking weapon and try to get all the skills by doing the main and secundairy quests. However playing with a PvE character gives me a hughe disadvantage while playing PvP in Tombs or so.
I really think its unfair that i have save up to 50k for just 1 superior vigor (or 100k for a superior absorbtion for that mattter) while its fairly easy to obtain such an item with a pvp character.
Also that counts for the "uber" weapons. for me to obtain a max longbow with +15% while above 50 health, vampiric 5-1, health +30hp is a really expensive or longtime challenge while the pvp character again is gonna make that item fairly easy.
So while investing a long time in playing quests and try to follow the storyline etc etc gives me a penalty upon people who only play pvp. Instead of rewarding people who spend time to invest in both types of playing i get punished by having not enough cash and not beeing lucky finding a superior rune (While i got in fact more than enough pvpfaction to buy superiors vigors for the whole guild).
I think thats unfair because it basicly prevents pve characters to fairly fight against a pvp only.
for example; My guild primarily focusses on pve that means that if we all got a +13% weapon (because +15% is only for the rich or lucky) we already miss a total of 16% extra dmg to start with as a team against a full pvp team.
Ofcourse it all comes to tactics, team communication etc. etc. but i really think it should be a good thing if we all can start with the same basics to start with.

While I understand what you mean by the multiple combinations involving the 2nd profession. I think what most of us would like to see (including myself) a player slot for every primary profession. As of now you only have 4 & there are 6 professions in the game - soon to be 8 after adding the assasin and ritualist. Leave it up to the player to do the secondary profession quests and change it as he/she sees fit.
I'm hoping for some nice things to come in Chapter 2. I would certainly like to see alot more challenges. Guild Wars is an awesome game & it appears that it was designed to be more PVP/GVG instead of PVE, but I'm sure Anet has noticed how much players enjoy the PVE aspect of this game. What is lacking is content, not quality. I'd like to see more content in the next chapter. After you have maxed out players with all the elites, green weps, etc the PVE side becomes a little watered down... All you can do is farm or do PVP/GVG. Maybe add multiple grades of armor (Drox, Citadel, Grotto, Fissure) all had the same specs. More combination of skills. Perhaps a way a player can get "elitized" so he can carry 2 elites ? I guess what I am trying to say is keep it fresh b/c the PVE side is leaving players hungry.
Make no mistake GW is a GREAT GAME ! Just beef it up a lot , not a little...
