You just got tomahawked
As many of y'all have noticed the good folks at Anet have really been pumping iut updates, evernts, etc.:
-Wintersday
-New HA
-The new tourny
-canthan New year
-Opening Urgoz and the deep
-search
-reconnects
-Hard mode
Also, the community has been pretty tough on Anet lately. Do y'all think that we influenced them to start working overtime or do you think they're not working had enough, or do you think they're just up to them normanl selves?
EDIT: my concious was getting to me I had to get feedback about if we were causing this.

A.net has always done an excellent job of adding new features and events imo. I don't think anyone has a right to complain about the support GW gets in terms of new features. The only complaint with GW I have ever had was PvP balance, which on some level is subjective.

The only reason whatsoever ArenaNet is attempting to release content en masse now is because it's the only way to keep customers. There's not going to be replay value for a long time, with the recent announcement that Ch4 will be released in the 2nd half of 2007 (also against tons of other big games, especially Warhammer Online).
I gurantee that about half the people will stop playing Guild Wars by Summer due to lack of substantial content. That's why the community is in shambles.
It's not the community's fault; it's ArenaNet's fault. They don't have the manpower, and it can't be helped.

They gave us some minor improvments that P2P games have as standard.

theres 119K members on this forum. if most of them quit the game, then there would still be alot of people playing guild wars.
people sit on the forums and complain about the stupidest crap, their voices make up such a small part of the comunity.
You can go ahead and quit, i dont care, but Me and most everyone I know still like to play alot. and since this isnt a subscription game its not really the same thing as any other mmo, especially star wars.
I dont get how you can compare it to that. SoE totally messed up that game by remaking most of it. I havent seen anything like that happen here, just alot of people getting bitchy cause their build gets nerfd and they are to lazy to make a new one.

ppl are getting pretty bored with these "events" i suspect. I'm not even bothered with the x2 green drop and such events. I might come in to visit during the canthan new year but will probably leave in 10 mins. its just the same old thing. I think they should hire more staff but i doubt they can afford it without P2P.

The late arrivial of CH 4 will likely seal GW's fate. I am certainly not the only member of the community who's pessimistic.

I think Anet has always provided for their customers in this way. The way I see it, Anet is big on pleasing players with special events and such. And they do it all for free, unlike most other MMOs, that make you pay monthly fees and don't have special events, except to bring out an expansion that you have to pay for. People on these forums bitch a lot about Anet not caring about the players, but if this was the case, why would they swamp their servers during halloween and christmas? Why would they actually listen to player feedback and add updates that people actually want?
Also, personally, I won't get sick of the special events. I am really looking forward to Canthan New year. sure, I won't play it the whole weekend, but I look forward to the hats and playing at least some of the games. And more alcohol. They didn't have alcohol on their list of special items, but I'm assuming there will be some.
Also, I haven't heard anywhere that the next game isn't coming out till second half of this year. I've heard that it's listed on some game sites as coming out in september, but this wouldn't be official information. There would have been a press release, and it would have been posted on the official site. Just because there hasn't been any news doesn't mean it's going to be released later than normal, just that Anet isn't ready to release any news yet.
EDIT: Okay, my bad. Should have checked the NCsoft site for any press releases. So there is something on there about a new addition to GW coming in the latter part of this year. I can still hope that they just got it wrong... Anyway, at least this means that the next chapter will be huge! Hey, I'm an optimist, what can I say.

The reason other games need monthly fees is to pay server upkeep. Since Guild Wars only have one world server (as opposed to World of Warcraft, which has 120+) and consists primarily of instances, the bandwidth is relatively low.
The reason ArenaNet added updates such as reconnects and LFG channel is irrelevant; they should have been in the game from the start. Every other game had them before Guild Wars. (And if they really listened to player feedback, there would be an Auction House, by far the most suggested thing in Sardelac. Of course, every other MMO has had AHes for awhile...)

Well, you can just go on being cynical. Personally, I love to get drunk in game. It's even better if you get drunk in real life at the same time. To be honest, I haven't played many other MMOs. But before anyone tells me to shut up, and I don't know what I'm talking about, I've seen screenshots of how bad the graphics are in WoW (if I wanted cartoons, I'd watch TV at 3 in the afternoon) and other MMOs, I've watched my friends play, and I've listened to my friends talk about them for hours on end (since none of them play GW, it's very boring for me, but what else is there to do but listen?) The only game that appeals to me as much as GW is ultima online, and that's only because the old Ultima series was and still is my favourite set of games.
GW is beautiful, and it caters to all sorts of players (soloers, PUGs, people playing through with friends, etc). And yes, we all paid our money for the games. I bought the CE for Factions and Nightfall, just for the seemingly useless treasures that come with it. But we paid for the game as it was. You don't go out and buy a car and expect it to repaired and upgraded for free. It's a surprise if it is, and it's the same for GW.

Your kidding right, why does A-net do this? Well technically they have not lost the community; it grows, not as rapidly as "you know who." We are not pressuring them to do these things. Actually I could care less for these so called “special weekend events" were not even there.
Kudos to A-net for giving to us and doing some extra work on the server base line; I mean the way they have to run that 24-hour server must be a real pain in the @#!. I would die with the overtime they have to commit to every freak’en day. I love their updaters because they have some top notch techs that don’t destroy or give problems like Steam servers do. They just need better ways to improve moral and unique gameplay to the players (raise that bar).

Subscription has nothing to do with it. You think just because there's no monthly fee, that it's automatically fun? O.o There are MMOs that have no monthly free and you don't even have to buy. Browse the internets, it's a new business model that's becoming popular. |
Subscription has everything to do with it. I never said free makes it more fun. But being subscription free makes it able to still continue with alot less active members.
THIS is not a subscription game, and it does not rely on keeping all of players active. And again, the changes anet make to the game, are no where near what SOE did to star wars, your whole argument has to be the stupidest thing I have ever read. SoE makes changes that made the game lame, Anet makes changes for balance that you can choose to like or hate, or move on with. If they didnt do skill changes then you would probably be here complaining about that too.

funny how the haters always have the worst thought process. You guys just dont have anything better to do with your time, so you play this game you hate so much. IRONY!

The community will always be tough on Anet because their idea of what Guild Wars should be is different from what the designers' designed it to be.
You get a clash of opinion Community vs Designer.
Fanservice or staying with your own vision?
The fans dont always know best. The designers dont always know best.
But the devs will make the FINAL decision.
The game has already been substantially changed from its original inception to fit the needs of the audience that has embraced it. A lot the changes are direct responses to the community's ideas.
Its unfair to say "It should have had it in the beginning" or "Every other MMO has it" when in fact those ideas may never have fit with the original design.
To think that Anet didn't THINK about such things and disregarded them as one reason or another (wether time constraint, technology, poor design or manpower) is rather propesterous.
---------------------------------------
The longevity of Guild Wars is in its PvP, not PvE and frankly we dont have enough people migrating to PvP from PvE. Without new players jumping into PvP, the PvP dies down. Without anything to do, PvE players get bored.
Me? I have lots to do in the game and not enough time to play.
If you get burned out of Guild Wars, its ok. Move on. Just think about how much gameplay you got out of your money. This game wont last forever and neither will you.

My guess is this; a portion of the Factions team is assigned to updating the current game, while the rest of them join the Nighfall team who are in midst of developing Chapter 4. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is more updates than usual. And every game that requires payment to be made in order to play, constant updates and events are mandatory to renew it's worthiness and value to the players.

Wow, you guys are just wanting flames tonight aren't you? Trolling and all :P All right first off, we have more than 1,000 people daily who post on this site. Can't believe I even had to say that.
Second, a forum is considered a sampling of the community. When you hear of national or international polls in the media do you really think they went out and asked 100 million people or the entire population of that country for their individual opinions? They pick a sample of the population. They are fairly accurate. If the overall posts of a community forum hate a change, it's a sure bet that the majority of GW players in general hate a change. So whether you'd like to believe it or not, forums do hold weight... even a measly 100k of the gw population that registered here.
And yes, I do think the devs are stepping it up with the recent events. It's nice and a great change for when you feel yourself growing bored. Gives you something to look forward to and at the least check out.

I normally don't focus on another user, but it's pretty absurd. Zinger, quit being so pessimistic. I think WoW is crap, so stop comparing GW to WoW. GW is not a wannabe WoW, hence all the crap that's cut out (5 seconds to open a chest?).
My friend runs a private server, so it is pretty funny when I find out that some players play absurd amounts of time even when it is a private server. Even funnier when he uses the GM commands on people to kick em off. Face it, Guild Wars isn't meant to be an addiction, more like a pasttime.
================================================== =======
Guild Wars is a GAME. People don't devote every waking moment to play or post on the forum. In fact, the core of the design philosophy has been reiterated time and again: "the best games are the ones you can put down and pick up again".
If you look at the statistics, the other sectors of NCsoft are dying (autoassault is an extreme example) and Guild wars is growing. So people, please stop being like chicken little.

not entirely inde, gameing is an entirely diffrent subject then asking people if they approve of the president.
there are hardcore and casual players. casual players dont get their panty's in a twist when a change happens to the game,, half the time they dont even notice till they get told. Many of the people I know dont know about changes unless i tell them about it.
The only reason why the forum community seems like such a loud voice is because they are the only ones that talk to the devs about things.
Even then people like zinger are such a small portion of this community.
And in the end, no matter how good a job a company does, some one bitches. WoW may be very popular, but it is far from a perfect game, just as many of the people who play will say.

I don't think guildwars will end for a long time. I have already tried to stop playing, and tried out WoW. It was retarded, pointless quests and mindless level peddling. That's why Gw stands out from the mob of mmorpgs, strategy, no monthlys, unbeatable pvp, and it makes you think instead of having your mind numb down on you.
And btw, I believe some kids might stop, but I assure you I don't care. I'd like it if more adults played. And this is probably one of the favorites on adult mmorpgs for the reasons stated before.

You could look at this way a community, is an option in which ways in on the decisions get carried out. However certain developers do not have to listen to their community. A-net does which takes it’s time, money, and other resources to invest into the community. If they wanted to get rid of people who oppose their views it would be a smaller community, but it’s not.
What we need is critical thinkers, people who are willing to give creative criticism back to make the game better; beyond that, no bashing please. “Man sometimes I need to listen to my own advice.”

Also, Guru is only one sample of the GW community. There are A LOT more forums and communities to sample from. With that many samples, you can gather up a lot of info on what the GW community likes. Though GWG is one of the more vocal. In political view, Guru can be considered something like Ohio.
Not to mention that the Casual players that I know actually realizes when things they like about the game gets changed. They aren't all mindless drones you know.

Sorry Lyra i have to dissagree with you on that. GW longevity is based on its PvE. However with there band aid patches and skill balances even that is becoming a shallow part of the game.
Oh Zinger you maybe on to something there with under table payoffs to some here on guru. Seems like some people just wont get off there knees unless anet says they can. Though i have my doubts on a few of the mods but we just dont know. Though we can pretty sure say JR isnt.

As for HoH being better than it was, maybe to the miniority of fansite posters it is. But I suspect the mass exodus of IWAY players who outnumbered them and no longer play in Tombs would disagree.

I dont say it here much, I rather write to them and say it over e-mail...which I did on new year already=P, but yes, A-Net is doing an over all good job in suporting in improving game system...well better then eq1&2>.> and I didnt play WOW long enough to ask for any support.
of course, they are far from my "picture perfect" support team...but why would they be?? or why would they need to be??
I dont even ask that from a friend...why would I ask a team that I dont even know. So as far as I see, A-Net did enough job to earn my thanks
So to A-Net
The update, event, and changes you guys had done had suprice me, made my day, dispoint me, and even made me wrote those long and serious complain e-mail to you over the years.
However the fact is, I had fun seeing the story you written, enjoy the world you had create, thrill on fighting other players, making builds and tactic for myself and friends(good end game in my account, and I dont even need to play a lot to enjoy this), made a few friends over the year(and said good-bye to few), get some good laugh during events, and for all these, I thank you for your work.
(And I believe its a given that I "DO" and always will looking forward if you guys can do more )

Game Company update, event, or whatever to please some group of people....is this news?? Or is this wrong?? Cause some people just said it like its a sin if company do this to for their pocket...
I understand that "do everything, because deep in your heart you want to be nice" thing is cool and....seriously I would love to meet someone like that. However this is not happening to human, and we should know that, if it happen that often, it wont be "deep in your heart".
