Why do you like GW ?
Firefox78
Well after 18 months playing like mad every day and not having any Reallife I began to wonder "why is this game so addictive" ?
Well the conclusion was the human nature of greed for more money to buy rare weapons and armor.
Well also the element of real people (though theres alot of idiots in this game), and the different events made by Anet..
But some of the down sides:
Anet nerf all the good things like Chest runs and farming spots. Especially hate them for the Chest nerfing, that I will never forgive.
But again it's also okay that not everyone have millions.
Well this is my point of view on GW, what is yours ?

I simply love the fantasy of it. To me it is a great little escape from reality and a fun way to unwind with friends.
RTSFirebat
Just play it for fun.
I care little for fancy weapons, gold and stuff. But I do like to get them once they come to me. FoW armor for my Ranger being the only thing I've ever grinded for.
I play it to unwind and just kick back with my Guidlies and escape real life for a bit.
I personally feel if you playing it just to farm and chest run your wasting your time.

The Ernada
I dont play this game to be greedy for gold and items. So I care very little about farm nerfs or stuff like that. I don't farm. Stuff like that isnt fun to me.
The biggest draw of GW is the "infinite" varieties of builds you can create. The most fun I get is thinking and putting together builds. Nerfs and buffs are always welcome because that means a whole new set of builds that I can work with. That's the main reason why I like GW.

I don't like it that much, I'm just addicted. What I liked, has long gone.
That was farming, getting rares, money and the like. That's what I have fun doing, I'm a single player, I just don't like chat rooms, so I use Guild Wars.

I like guild wars for these reasons:
-Complex Virtual Economy (I refer to this as the Diablo Effect)
-Championships and other means of gaining fame and prestige within the game
-The people
A parlance can easily be made between the economy in the game and that of real life. I find that, in games where the items and trade systems allow, we as the gamers tend to create an economic system. This is well known. Whats amazing is when the economy mirrors that of the real world. The developers can be thought of as a large and powerful publicly shared company. Farming, running, and selling items can be thought of as functions of the stock market while patches and nerfs made by the devs represent fluctuations. You may put all your gold into designing a farming build only to have it nerfed the next day. In the case of guild wars however, the large company would be comparable to Enron...
Gaining recognition in the game, as ridiculous and in some ways pathetic, is very exciting when we live in a world where gaining recognition requires climbing Mt Everest with no legs and a brain tumor. What sets guild wars apart from other games is the ability to display your accomplishments in the form of titles, items, ladders.
The people who play Guild Wars are some of the most approachable friendliest
and team oriented gamers I've encountered. This of course excludes any and all of Heroes Ascent. In Unreal Tournament 2003 there was a definate lack of communication whatsoever, even from the people who spoke English. In Counterstrike people are so ridiculously clickish that it takes away from the games personality. Go out and talk to a 15-year-old for about 5 minutes about guns and you'll have about the same experience.

I like the graphics style for one thing. It doesn't look so anime-ish like a lot of the Korean mmo's and unlike a certain well-known mmo that shall go unnamed, it doesn't look like a cheap Saturday morning cartoon. And it's free to boot; so I can pick up whenever I want without having to go buy a time card like with CoV.
Cross de Lena
I don't really LIKE GW, I just can't afford anything else...I don't think the game is really that great...
Lonesamurai
I love the game, i have done since the betas... although i am worried about where its heading
Esprit
Like what Firebat said... I play for fun and being able to get away from life once in a while and hang out with friends and guildmates. I can be busy for weeks, not able to log in, but I don't have to worry about subscription costs, so I know that Guild Wars will be there where I left it.

PvP without the grind to get what I need.
No costs FORCING me to play to get my moneys worth
Instanced, no griefing in PvE

I like Guild Wars because...
Quake Wars:Enemy Territory hasn't come out yet.
Seriously, the gameplay is quite nice in GW as well as the fantastic environments.

because if I'm rich(real life rich -lol) I can buy the game and then go buy all the PvP skills from the online store(unlock packs), get double fame for a weekend and then pretend to be very elite...
lol.... in all seriousness I got hooked on the "magic" and "wonders" that proph offered. Since, it seems like a faded memory though, and with each new hurried release, My memories of a once dominating game are fading into the thick, gloaming mists of fast paced production vs. play

Competitive play in guildwars and the feel of "anyone can make it to the top" due to pvp unlocks is just awesome. Another very strong point would have to be the effort ( not that they are always sucessfull j/k ) that the game devs put in the game to balance it out.

I like GW, because it's great for casual players.

I love WoW's storyline, graphics, and overall feel. But the gameplay sucks. Oh, and I hate subscription fees. So I turned to GW...
This game is truly casual-player friendly. I can log on here and there, complete some quests with a PUG, and leave it at that.
And despite what some people say, I actually enjoy the number of classes, skills, and combinations possible in GW. Creates a lot of variety.

I like GW cuz it is free to play. That is ONLY THING good about gw right now imao.

Guild Wars has a chess-like feeling to it. I enjoy creating new builds and testing them out. With heroes around, you can create some neat synergy with builds which makes things even more interesting.
GW has quite a few things you can do depending on your mood, all of which don't require much time investment: RA, medium level pve, high end pve, AB, FA, farm greens, observe some truly skilled players and some fun matches, and argue with idiots in RA outposts.

I like Guild Wars because it's refreshing and different. Even though PvE has little strategy to it, I still love going through areas and hitting things. It gives great satisfaction.
AceeBlueEagle
I got into GW as a different game from the FPS genre I had played to death.
I got soooo tired of BOOM! HEADSHOT! BOOM! HEADSHOT!
Thus, as you can probably discern, I do not enjoy PVP. PVP for me is 8 hours at my job PVP'ing with customers.

I started the game because my husband wanted something for us to do together------and now I play because I can smash the living daylights out of things and not go to jail! Its a great way to eliveate frustration for me.....and since I only had to pay $50 for it to start with .....its worth it....time to go and bash some more char!!!!

Guild wars's graphics
And the 15k armor.. whew i wish i had some more of that ><

Why do I like Guild Wars? Its really a casual-friendly game. I can spend 2-3 hours doing something and feel like I've actually done something towards a goal. Unlike, other most MMO's where its not only gear based, you have to grind and grind to feel like you did something good and spend around 10 hours to do so.
Retribution X
Because My sin can drop a 100 Al target in about 5 secs.
You just got tomahawked
This thread has shown me that GW isn't prone to spontaneously combust at any time from members leaveing. GJ guys you've restored my hope
Verata
I like Guild Wars becasue if I had a bad day I can come into the GW "World" and just relax with no worries other than those smite groups . It's really just my escape from reality. And really, how often do you get to save the world from total destruction/armageddon/or some other bad thing every day? Well really we only save the world once evey 6 months but oh well...

Now, every once in a while, I'll get that FPS urge again, and luckily, GW can feed that, too.

I guess I'm answering the question of "why do you like GW compared to other MMO's". I guess the answers are, in order of priority
1) Instances - I can get a group of people I like together be completely isolated from the dregs of humanity.
2) No Grind - My toon is max level and fully equiped in 24hrs so I can get on with playing the game instead of trying to level myself up and get uber gear
3) Short time investments. With the exception of the elite areas, every part of the game can be completed within an hour or so.
4) No monthly fees. I don't feel pressured to play to get my money's worth... though that being said I can count the number of days that I haven't played gw since 2005 on my fingers :P.
The only other MMO I play is shot-online and it shares every aspect except 2).

First off, I don't get why people who don't really like the game post in forums. Just my thought.
Myself, I started playing as a way to spend time with my brother. He talked me into it around Christmas 2005. So, the reasons why I love it:
-It's pretty
-Kicking the crud out of stuff is fun
-I love getting shiny armor
-Playing is relaxing
-I don't have to be a slave to the game to get decent gear (heh but maybe a little to get things like Vabbian armor)
-I can play with others or alone
-It's easy to get friends into it, too, because it's easy to learn but there's always so much to learn more and get better at
-My husband and stepson also play so it's definately family time now
-It gives me something to do that allows people in my vicinity to sleep (as opposed to drumming at 1am when I'm restless)
It helps keep me sane. And it helps that ANet is really cool - I've got to meet a number of the employees and they really are the coolest.

money making is fun as hell and I also like to meet all sorts of people from all over the world, its pretty cool that you can live somewhere and talk to someone on the otherside of the world and see what life is like where they coem from.

Well, I am currently taking a break from GW (Kinda-Dl'ing LDOA tittle in pre) So while I do that AFK I have been playing WOW and SWG. Both of which are subscription based which I don't really mind since I don't drink and I have seen my friends bar tabs. Much more expensive than the cost of a sub fee...But My point is I like GW because I know when I come back to playing it I can just pick up right where I left off. With heros I can basically solo the game since I play at a lot of times when not many other people are on. Also It has a great story line. Fun to make builds. Being limited to 8 skills is really thought provoking. Little to no server downtime Which is huge for me. I hate only haveing a set time to play a game and then finding out that the servers will be down that whole time...happend to me with both WOW and SWG this morning!!!
B Ephekt
I used to like this game for the no grind philosophy and the balanced, competitive pvp. I'm not exactly sure why I stick around, however.
I guess I like this game now because it's a stop-gap time killer until Fortress Forever and Team Fortress 2 come out.

In no particular order:
The Graphics - the game and chars look great and the requirements for your computer aren't that high. Very big plus. There are a lot of games out there that don't look as good and have higher requirements, so I don't play em.
Cost - a big point for many. It doesn't cost half of what a 'normal' MMO costs you.
Gameplay - the controls are easy to learn and use.
Story line - at least prophecies and nightfall were good stories...Factions could've been, but the acting voices were bad and the movies so long that I stopped caring. Still, it could be worse.
Balance - the fact that you can play at the same level of equipment as any other player even if your new is a very good thing. I love 15k armours but they are not better than other max armours...well done on that.

I just never run out of things to do with GW.Never had so much game for so little money.Ever. The only thing that ruins some of my fun is the community wich consists of whiners who would say "Too litle too late" even if you gave them a bar of pure gold.

Um beyond that, the major underlying factor that I like is that the places an empahsis on skills rather than items. I do enjoy items, but I'm glad they're pretty much for looks only.
It reminds of Magic the Gathering...<3
