Why do you like GW ?

Guild Wars has a chess-like feeling to it. I enjoy creating new builds and testing them out. With heroes around, you can create some neat synergy with builds which makes things even more interesting.
GW has quite a few things you can do depending on your mood, all of which don't require much time investment: RA, medium level pve, high end pve, AB, FA, farm greens, observe some truly skilled players and some fun matches, and argue with idiots in RA outposts.

I started the game because my husband wanted something for us to do together------and now I play because I can smash the living daylights out of things and not go to jail! Its a great way to eliveate frustration for me.....and since I only had to pay $50 for it to start with .....its worth it....time to go and bash some more char!!!!
Why do I like Guild Wars? Its really a casual-friendly game. I can spend 2-3 hours doing something and feel like I've actually done something towards a goal. Unlike, other most MMO's where its not only gear based, you have to grind and grind to feel like you did something good and spend around 10 hours to do so.
I like Guild Wars becasue if I had a bad day I can come into the GW "World" and just relax with no worries other than those smite groups
. It's really just my escape from reality. And really, how often do you get to save the world from total destruction/armageddon/or some other bad thing every day? Well really we only save the world once evey 6 months but oh well...

I got soooo tired of BOOM! HEADSHOT! BOOM! HEADSHOT! Thus, as you can probably discern, I do not enjoy PVP. PVP for me is 8 hours at my job PVP'ing with customers. ![]() |
Now, every once in a while, I'll get that FPS urge again, and luckily, GW can feed that, too.
I guess I'm answering the question of "why do you like GW compared to other MMO's". I guess the answers are, in order of priority
1) Instances - I can get a group of people I like together be completely isolated from the dregs of humanity.
2) No Grind - My toon is max level and fully equiped in 24hrs so I can get on with playing the game instead of trying to level myself up and get uber gear
3) Short time investments. With the exception of the elite areas, every part of the game can be completed within an hour or so.
4) No monthly fees. I don't feel pressured to play to get my money's worth... though that being said I can count the number of days that I haven't played gw since 2005 on my fingers :P.
The only other MMO I play is shot-online and it shares every aspect except 2).

First off, I don't get why people who don't really like the game post in forums. Just my thought.
Myself, I started playing as a way to spend time with my brother. He talked me into it around Christmas 2005. So, the reasons why I love it:
-It's pretty
-Kicking the crud out of stuff is fun
-I love getting shiny armor
-Playing is relaxing
-I don't have to be a slave to the game to get decent gear (heh but maybe a little to get things like Vabbian armor)
-I can play with others or alone
-It's easy to get friends into it, too, because it's easy to learn but there's always so much to learn more and get better at
-My husband and stepson also play so it's definately family time now
-It gives me something to do that allows people in my vicinity to sleep (as opposed to drumming at 1am when I'm restless)
It helps keep me sane. And it helps that ANet is really cool - I've got to meet a number of the employees and they really are the coolest.

Well, I am currently taking a break from GW (Kinda-Dl'ing LDOA tittle in pre) So while I do that AFK I have been playing WOW and SWG. Both of which are subscription based which I don't really mind since I don't drink and I have seen my friends bar tabs. Much more expensive than the cost of a sub fee...But My point is I like GW because I know when I come back to playing it I can just pick up right where I left off. With heros I can basically solo the game since I play at a lot of times when not many other people are on. Also It has a great story line. Fun to make builds. Being limited to 8 skills is really thought provoking. Little to no server downtime Which is huge for me. I hate only haveing a set time to play a game and then finding out that the servers will be down that whole time...happend to me with both WOW and SWG this morning!!!
In no particular order:
The Graphics - the game and chars look great and the requirements for your computer aren't that high. Very big plus. There are a lot of games out there that don't look as good and have higher requirements, so I don't play em.
Cost - a big point for many. It doesn't cost half of what a 'normal' MMO costs you.
Gameplay - the controls are easy to learn and use.
Story line - at least prophecies and nightfall were good stories...Factions could've been, but the acting voices were bad and the movies so long that I stopped caring. Still, it could be worse.
Balance - the fact that you can play at the same level of equipment as any other player even if your new is a very good thing. I love 15k armours but they are not better than other max armours...well done on that.
