Do your characters have personality?
kolakoski
Well met!
Although Guild Wars is theoretically an RPG, in practice, except in contrived circumstances, it is not generally played as such. That being said, I wonder if there are many players out there who identify with their characters, giving them traits similar to theirs, or heroic principles, etc. In my case, I play my main character as the kind of man I would hope to be, if I found myself living in the Guild Wars universe: a Samurai, selfless and loyal to his guild and his friends, kind to others, and lacking in greed or materialism.

Narcism
My characters are all oppressed females trapped in male avatars/bodies.
Drazaar
I would say mass majority to all peoples characters retain at least portions of that persons personality in them.
I think no matter how good an actor you are, how you are in RL gets leacked into your avatars in some varying fashion and degree.

My female characters have: good looks, evil personalities, expensive stuff, and very materialistic desires..... Much like me!

All this is a long winded way of saying that the only way a character could have personality is if you pretended it did. There's no real outlet for it in an action RPG and that's perfectly fine, because it's not what the game's about.
Gustin
Welp, my necro is an asshole, and my ranger...well, he's an asshole. and, my ele...damn, he's an ass too.
i wonder if this says something about me? lol

My characters definitely all have a well defined personality, since they are all RPcharacters adapted for GW
Fender
Nope - unless you count "my" personality. I don't act differently no matter what char I'm playing.
Aerian_Skybane
Aerian Skybane (Ranger) - Yeah the lone ranger type. He has leetsauce dripping from his eyes hes so lonerish. Not emo
Cedyn Skybane (Warrior) - Smash. Yeah thats it. Actually, he plays mostly with my GFs Mesmer, so I view him as kind of this wandering protector with her. She's so tiny of a Mezzie, and I'm this hulking Warrior. Sounds like a sitcom to me!
Korcyn Skybane (Necro) - Is the fashion RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO. No joke, he has all the cool armor, weapons, skills, dye, the whole nine yards. The only character I have ever decked out. He DEMANDS it. He is quite the flamboyant Necro.
Neurai Skybane (Assassin) - Completely and utterly emo. Although quite an evil emo. It is ultimately the most contradictive personality ever.
Targael Skybane (Paragon) - Depressed about life and the fact that even his spears got dulled. WHY MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Likes wings... a lot!
Erzial Skybane (Monk) - Total newb. Only half way to being an adult. He has much to learn...
And off the topic of what they embody, I think I gain a lot of connection with my characters, some more than others, but, whats wrong with imagination? Nothing, it makes things cooler.

My ele is cute, small, perfect and deadly... just how i like things ^^
ideologue
I act differently from character to character when I'm in a PUG group. but not with my friends/guild
For example: I am nicer on my monk just because I can heal pretty much everything including idiots, but not so nice on the warrior since I wont get healed by fearless monks who rushes into the mobs and starts casting rebirth.

Hmm, my characters, in whatever game, have my "personality". I don't deviate very far from certain parameters: they are the same sex, for example. I never got into that create an entirely different persona thing for playing. To me the "magic" is playing yourself as a person capable of extraordinary things.
And, thus far, in real life I have been unable to call chain lightning and cosmic fire down upon the heads of the deserving, but I'm working on it.
Shhh!
Edit: lightening to lightning, yay!

mine all wish they where fat and ugly......and didnt all have to look like barbie dolls
thezed
Of course they do, they also all have a backstory.
The Zed(Warrior) - Grew up just west of the Barridian Estates. Skilled with an axe before he was 9. Served under the duke before being recruited to defend the wall. Once single hadidly killed 50 Charr. Is renowned as a ruthless, but just, warrior.
Bobbie Zed(Necro) - The Zed's wife. Due to the early death of her parents has always sought communion with the dead. Was raised at the abby but spent most of her life in the catacombs. Though very friendly, she has a dark side that few have crossed and lived to tell of it.
Son of Zed(Ranger) - The Zed/Bobbie's son. Fun loving and light hearted...untill duty calls. Then there are few who can match his accuracy with a bow. Above all else he values family, and is proud of the fact that he is best know as the son of his father.
Lily Zed(Monk) - The Zed/Bobbie's daughter. Unlike the rest of her family, she detests violents and is a strict pacifist. Spent a brief time trying to bring peace between the humans and charr. Now she spends her time healing those in need, hoping one day the charr will find their efforts wasted and turn back.

Archangel Xavier
In the name of Atreyu, A7x, and Lacuna Coil you will read my entire post. lol
All my characters have their own personality. Archangel Xavier is my main character. Saint Mike is my monk and secondary character. Queen Edea was my first and original character though she recently "died." Then there's Abyss Seer who is kind of in his infancy.
Archangel Xavier He is a warrior. He is definately modeled after myself. He is short, serious, and has a mohawk. I'm also able to use a wen jian style sword. He is more of the knightly paladin type than the obnoxious ascalon or gladiator's armor type that you see running around saying "wtb max damage axe mending is great." He is supposed to be the lost Archangel along side Michael, Uriel, Gabriel, and Azrael. Actually it's more like fallen than lost. He is still as powerful and moral as ever, but he has had disagreements with upper management. This reflects my personality somewhat precariously. Though now instead of disagreeing I don't believe what I use to at all. Archangel Xavier is the name and character profile I use for most games online and not. I also use it for game related accounts. If you see the name Archangel Xavier playing an RPG, it's proabably me.
Saint Mike He's a monk and is modeled after the Archangel Michael, but the name was already taken. He is more a monk in the traditional sense than in the Guild Wars, half-indian sort of way. If there were cool hooded robes for monks then he'd have one.
Abyss Seer He's a ritualist. He is intended to be modeled after Archangel Azrael. For those of you who don't know he is more commonly known as Death or the Angel of Death. He was the inspiration for an Unreal Tournament and JK2 clan I made Angels of Death or AoD. I know, I know, he isn't nescessarily an archangel. Some people thing he was and some don't. In any case, Abyss Seer is basically made to be the grim reaper type and if I could only find a good build for rt\d then he'd be set on looks.
Queen Edea She was a necromancer. If you don't know who this is modeled after, shoot yourself in the crotch. She was intended to be just like Edea. She was my first character, but I deleted her a few days ago. I can't really figure out why. I guess I didn't like the idea of a character being based off another character from a different game. I also don't like playing women. It just seems kind of weird in a suppressed sexuality sort of way when guys play girls online. I had orginally created her because the personality could so easily be adapted to the necromancers from Guild Wars that I just had to make the character.
Most of my character are based off of religious characters. I don't really know why. Once upon a time I was very religious and now I'm the polar opposite. In that sense these characters don't match my personality. I wanted to have some sort of theme going amongst the characters I made, but making up my own theme would be lame in that "I write own fanfiction" sort of way, using greek or norse mythology is not only inapplicable to Guild Wars, but also overdone. (I don't get it either)

Jeremy Untouchable
my toons are just like me, kind, generous, honest to a fault, never scamming or curseing, Also in RL i run a business, in guildwars i run a guild...
Tempy
All of mine have very separate and distinctive personalities. If this isn't a roleplaying arena, I guess I am schizo! LOL
Morganas
My mesmer is a purple clad dandy who's not afraid to dance naked in the middle of House Zu Heltzer when the mood should strike him. He's also definitely not gay. Seriously.
Diddy bow
i imagine my main chars to be a bit like me cus it kinda grows on me. Because i tried to make them look like me abit .
Just kinda quiet and... uh loyal.
Just kinda quiet and... uh loyal.
cellardweller
I use an accent in teamspeak when playing Armando, my dashing spanish mesmer - does that count? I also have a feeling I also channel The Fonz when playing Ace Romeo, Paragon and captain of the high school football team.
Coran Ironclaw
i even have a small story of the childhood of my main character
here is it.

Hmm...I'm not sure if they have their own personality, but since I'm short and I want to be tall, I always make my characters the tallest they can be.
placebo overdose
my top three fav chars:
1. my ele he is just chill and what not(he has a fro like me in real life)
2. my tank ive had him forever and he is generous
3. my mes he is just an old black man

All of my characters are nothing more than pixels on texture sheets which are wrapped around polygons, ergo they have no personality.
It's a computer game!
It's a computer game!
Nkah Sennyt
A couple of mine do. My ele, a feisty lady who takes nothin' from nobody and wants everyone to be themselves, not put on an act. My warrior, a strong, serious and logical type, not prone to emotional outbursts but fiercely loyal. My monk, an innocent and cutesy girl who just wants everyone to get along.
...being in an RP guild is having its effect on me.

Keep a handle on that imagination of yours, it could get out of control.
Edge Martinez
Lets see...
Monk- Businesslike. Avoids combat.
Mesmer- Sneaks in, shuts down, runs like a girl.
Warrior- Looks cool. Tears through almost anything.
Ele- Stays on the fringe of combat. Looks for groups of enemies.
Necro- Turns into an elf and humps people in Grotto.
Ranger- Businesslike. Loves animals. Uses animals to kill people.
Paragon and Assassin- Very strong. Hold lots of stuff.
So not really personality that anyone else can see, but personality nonetheless.

My assassin definantly has a personality. A competitive one. If my assassin gets killed by something i just have to get revenge on it. Or if i see someone killing everybody, my assassin will try to kill it.
Matsumi
Not really, but if they misbehave I delete them, then start new ones
Redfeather1975
I play all my GW, EQ2 and WoW characters the same.
I sing theme songs and make fake commercial soundtracks when fighting and exploring.
I often made my old guild in EQ2 drop everything and start laughing because I'd just start doing fake haircut testimonials from the monsters we were fighting.
'The power of Christ compels you....to get an inch off the top at SuperCuts! Thanks Supercuts!'
Very bizarre and random ramblings is what my characters do.
It comes from watching too much 'Mystery Science Theater'

Corinthian
Of course they don't have personalities. I'm no RP geek.
Priest Of Sin
I base my character's names around what I pictured their personality to be like... my warrior is a heroic guardian of ascalon, my necro a sadistic maniac that is the exact opposite of what a Priest should be. And if you know Latin, my mesmer's name is pretty cool (Divinus Dolor). I try to dump a little RP into my chars, because I am a nerd at heart that loves D&D.

I think I made my necro a little too pretty, but it was the best I could come up with -_-
My mesmer though Vile Enchantress is deceptively enchanting. She looks decidedly rich and powerful but STUNNING.... Thats bound to backfire on anyone that gets too close
My warriors have a similar feel to them as Eviance, strong and beautiful. My monks have the short, cute, and meek silent look.
My Sins are Naruto style XD
Kuldebar Valiturus I have to agree with you. I do not see how people can play these games and be so unwilling to have any imagination. Life is so much prettier when you give it color ^_^!

But yeah, my characters have personalities:
My sin is the young rebel, who's trying to make a name for himself, while his brother, my ranger, is older and wiser, the quiet thinker.
Dervish is all about the glory, and he has big plans to carry his guild to victory, in the name of Balthazar!
Warrior is a care-free partier. She spends all day cutting down her enemies, and all night hitting the ale and the sweets.
Necro is only happy when she's commanding hordes of undead, and even then she's a bit melancholy.
Mesmer is an entertainer, much like Norgu. Except he doesn't put on plays, he prefers magic shows. He thinks Norgu is a pompus you-know-what.
Ele is an airheaded valley girl, or at least that's the persona she puts on. She's quite intelligent, but wears the mask of a ditz, to put her enemies into a false sense of security.
manitoba1073
oh yeah my 19 chars all have there own very different and quite unique personalities.
Dracil
All my characters are really the same person in different bodies. That's why their names all consist of the same letters (except when I made a mistake on my Dervish). I guess a small piece of her soul got lost somewhere.
cosyfiep
yes all my characters have character----and personality. otherwise they would be quite boring to play..... they like certain armors, they use a certain weapon cause it works for them....my ranger has a pet it likes.....etc
my characters also have stories----my mesmers are related, my monks have reasons why they became monks....as does my necro.....
yep
and some of my personality is in them all as well.
