High End Armor and the Jealousy Factor

I was thinking about vabian armor for one of my warriors. But after standing in a few places, I have heard nothing but abuse directed at the people that wear high end armor. Ok, yoyo's are a part of the game and being an idiot is the number one profession in game, we all know this. And to be honest Vabian isn't really high high end compared to say Obsidian etc..

I mean there has to be some people that got their armor in game by farming etc, and didn't just "Grab mommies credit card" and run to ebay to buy the resources.. Right?

No one has anything to do with what you buy with your gold/items/whatever. Just ignore that and play the game the way you want. ^^

Not everybody who has high-end armors Ebays it. Don't worry about what some noob will tell you in-game. If you like the armor then you should get it.

Well of 'course not everyone eBay's. But often people that are too lazy to farm but still want fancy gear take their frustration out on people that earned what they have.

The only time I've seen abuse directed toward high-end armor-wearers, is when that wearer, is, a) calling attention to their armor and b) forgive me, acting noobish. [Therefore kind of inviting the eBay reference, ie, how can you afford this armor without learning something about the game on the way...]

Yea it was a bit of a muttled post..

It's sad that so many in game drive so much pleasure from being as nasty as they want and feel nothing will be done about it. At least in SWG we could ask them to duel, and make them look cowardly when they backed down or logged.. *sigh*

Me personally, I tell them to get stuffed, it just bothers me that some have to take being an ass to the n'th degree,

I've never been too excited about "elite" armor. Unlike in other games, the expensive stuff isn't any better stat-wise than regular max armor.

If I had huge amounts of gold/materials though, I'd probably get it, but haven't been that wealthy yet.

Vanity is a strange thing, affects people differently.

I see people /laugh at me all the time, to which I just /yes. I've never really gotten pissed or upset over it. They're jerks, and I just ignore them.

Also, you *can* still duel in Guild Wars, it's just harder to set up. I've only ever dueled one guy out of this "armor business", however. Most were just out of fun.

I agree with you on this point. If I see some wammo running around with his fiery dragon sword and eternal shield agroing 10 groups and he has obsidian armor on, I'm going to assume a few things. He either 1) got many donations from friends 2) farmed it all in UW with a 55 or 3) eBayed.

Someone who is a wammo cannot have that many intelligent friends and I doubt his friends would be willing to donate to him for his obsidian armor. If you're a farmer you should at least know some mechanics about the game right? you know enchat strip is bad agroing too many will result in death etc. Not the best way to learn game mechanics but you're not completely clueless. The only possible explanation left is the fact that he eBayed his money. I won't openly voice my opinion to these people simply out of politeness.

When you see a guy being bashed and called ebayer its because they're jelouse and therefore they degrade him with insults. Its ironic how only the people that know the wearers of FoW armour appreciate its prestige. Jelousy has almost defeated its purpose.

This immature wammo in FoW armour thing people keep going on about is a myth just promoting the degradation of FoW armour if you think logically no immature wammo is going to be able to purchase items off ebay and no parent is going to help them purchase a virtual item. In my experiance going back to d2 the ONE person i knew that did buy items from ebay was much older(in his 30s).

Theres atleast 2 people in my guild with full legit FoW armour on multiple characters. They are farming the UW/FoW every night.

I recently (finally) got obsidian armour for my ranger. I must admit that the high level armour abuse you see in the game had put me off buying it for some time, but after 21 months of game play I felt my ranger deserved it.

Since getting it, I have not seen anyone direct any insults to me personally. It might be because I usually display my "Kind of a Big Deal" title though

I just bought my final set of 15k armour, now all of my chars has a set. I like the fact that I've achieved what I set out to obtain, so people who abuse others for something that they themselves are capable of are just being idiots. It's sad to see people go nuts just because they can't be bothered to do what other people have. IMO I don't see anything wrong with people that have legitimately earned high-end items of prestige flaunting what they've got a little bit, because they can at least say they've worked for it.

Yeah, the only people who I've seen get teased are the ones who call attention to themselves. I personally worked my ass off for my armor. What can you say when idiots are standing in the middle of Shing Jea in their Fissure armor quoting Ron Burgundy?

When nightfall started I saw a picture of it and wanted the dervish vabbian armor. Then I got to the bizzar and found out how much it cost.

Finally, months later I was able to afford it after makins some good trades. I don't have obsidian so I'm not sure how people react to it, but I have had nothing but compliments about my vabbian armor and I love the way it looks so even if people did comment, I wouldn't care. I agree, if you don't bring attention to it I don't think most people care...

Ancient news. Full FoW armor sets can be casually farmed in 2 weeks or less. Thats how long it took me to get each of my 3 sets. Some people who are lazy or suck at farming (usually the case) will just ebay it. Thats pretty much it.

Geez, and I remember a time when you could go into Droknar's and say I just got my 15k armor (or another piece) and people would actually say congrats. But then of course that was the time that 15k armor meant something too.

I've seen some players brag about buying e-bay gold and getting their armor that way, like they're inviting people to bash them (which plenty of people do). I got my end-game Canthan armor because....I liked it. Got it the ingame way--farming, trading...you know the drill. I havent been the target of abuse, but frankly, I could care less what people though of it (I actually get a lot of compliments about it).
To hell with what people say...if you want it, go get it! (Just don't ebay it....)

One of the reasons I stopped hanging around Grotto was because it was Snobville -_- I LOVE my druids 15k altho the gloves are not... I couldn't see spending 15k on gloves that didn't look all that much different. I don't like the look of FoW ranger or any other high end ranger armor except maybe the one that uses deld steel. I farmed UW witha guildie for a while so I could get a FoW top for my monk and now I've decided that I should instead use it on my mesmer lol...
No one pays attention to any of 15k armors unless they are a low levels of the class I am at the time. And I still don't have any FoW sets cause I dont like most of them.

Ah, this debate. Those who accuse others of "eBaying" gear are usually pre-teen to 14. 15 Seems to be the magic number at which people stop giving a damn. Anywho. If you like the armor, go snag yourself some. Take Warrior Primeval armor, for example. Personally, I hate the stuff, but I don't go around screaming "ZOMG TREE PEOPLE!! NOOBS!!!". I however seem to be an insult magnet when I wear my fow armor tho... I dunno.

Grab the armor you want, ignore those who make fun of you. And FYI, the 55 monk blew away ANY value 15k armors had, cuz I for one 55ed my Dervish's Primeval, and am currently 55ing my ranger's primeval. To each his own :P

QFT - I've had my fissure armour for 18 months now and I've never had any sort of negative feedback. In the early days there was a lot of "can I see" pms from people who thought it would have different stats or something, but nowerdays high end armour is common enough that people don't even bat an eyelid.

touché...

I did want to sound rude, maybe I overdid it. But yea, its normal people will envy others, I have 150k in my storage that I haven't touched since... o lets say... 7 months, cause for me that 150k might never come back. xD (cuz I hardly have the time to play GW, let alone farm)

I've read some stuffs that I didn't like in this thread.

1) Why is everyone bashing the wammo? Being a W/Mo doesn't make you immature, it's just naturally the most easiest class to play as a beginner. I'm sure most you all (most, not everyone) have or has had a W/Mo.

2) What's this age discrimination? pre-teen, 15 etc.. Im 16, but that doesn't mean anything. I know very mature people under the age of 12, and it ticks me off how your pointing at a minority of the community and blaming them falsely.

i don't really care what anybody choses for their armor. personally I'm never going to spend the money on an obsidian set, i think most of them are hideous.
My only regret is that you can't get certain set bonuses on certain armor styles in prophecies, cause i rather like a lot of the armor from there

Why does everyone always care what others think! Live how you want, its a video game and wear what you want and dont let others tell you what you cannot do. My favorite thing to do is acquire money not only by farming but using heros and partying with random groups just for fun. I feel no need to tell any of you how much money I have but I told a GW friend of mine how much I had and he somewhat flipped on me asking why you need that much money and there is much better things to do in game then get money. Havent really talked to him much since even though he is in my guild but it just goes to show you to keep to yourself and dont listen to others.

I used to think it would be impossible to get enough gold & materials to afford 15k, but now I almost allways have my common materials storge max & 15k on 4 of my characters.

I honestly have only seen a few time where people are accused of ebaying in-game. And it's allways been when people flaunt thier money in some way. It those cases it's more annoying to hear those ppl talk about how 100k is nothing to them...

money really isn't that hard to come by in guild wars if you put even minimal thought into your income. most people just can't afford anything because the second they get any amount of gold, they blow it on something instead of saving it up.

I've had lots of money for a long, long time. I run Southern Shiverpeaks and doing 1 run from Rankor with a full party takes about 20-30 mins on a war. You made 70k a run, not counting the occasional scammer.. Thats almost enough to get 15k, buying mats. I dont only run. Power trading is how I got all my ectos for it. Theres threads around here that tell you how to get enough money to afford FoW in just weeks...If you are lazy and envy people who have FoW...Use the search button.

Oh, I got flammed the other night for having FoW on my dervish. First time since I got it. Guy said I ebayed, I said if I ebay, wouldn't I have the whole set? ^^ (I dont have the shoes, no shoes are worth about 200k)

If you want high end armor but are afraid of being flammed/getting a bad rep, who cares about them, they are mostly kids. Oh and to Sujoy, 60% of the kids I have met (under 15) ARE immature. There still is that 40% floating around there that wassn't mentioned. I believe the guy who said that the immature ones MEANT the immature ones.

Well, I hate to be a nay sayer here, but Vabbi is somewhat high-end. 250k set, last I checked. But you know what? I have the set on my Ele. I worked hard for that set, farming for hours to buy the gems for it. I don't believe in buying gold online. Tho it didn't not cross my mind at some points. It would have made things easier. But I didn't do it. No sir.

Sure I did happen accross 2 Crystalines in Sorrows Forge, and that really expediated the process. But hey, farming's farming. :P

And just recently, I bought Night-Fall end-game armour for my Ranger. Bones are super easy to farm, and they arn't very expensive. But still, 80k set. Sure I was farming ecto everynight with her trapping fun. But still, I'm down to like 3 ecto, and 0k in my bank account.

High-end armour is fun, and it's somethign to strive for in-game. It's a goal. And it's fun to go for a goal in a game like this.

If you like the Vabbian armour style, then get it bro'. More power to ya. Most people, I've found, are generally complimentary of your armour, especially if it's dyed in an interesting, eye-catching shade that brings out the wonderful detail (I've had lots of comments about my 'sins Ancient armour... maybe 'cuz I threaten to hug people! ). Not quite how i would say it, but generally the same way i feel.

I truely hope that the amount of public bashing on total strangers because of their armor is being exaggerated, as that is a REALLY bad reflection on the GW community. Then again, one cannot keep specific maturity levels from playing the game, now can we?

Personally, i have always had multiple 15k armors on all my characters simply because i LIKE them. Then when it came to my necro, i didn't like ANY armors cept the 1.5k Tyrian and FoW. Hence, i settled with the 1.5k set for months and months until just recently i got my necro his FoW! That said, i have NEVER gotten direct insults/ridicule for my armors, and though i have only had FoW (my first set) for a few days now, i can say i haven't gotten verabally abused for it, yet.

Sure i worked hard and long for it, but again i really have no way of proving that now do i? In fact, no one in this game really has physical proof of NOT using Ebay gold for GW. My point? Everyone's in the same boat, suspicion-wise, so i say throw off the shackles of "what others think" and put on the armor of "i like! Therefore i get!".

Anyway, sorry to read so many people get a hard time for the nice armor they worked for. Yet, i am sure ALL online games experience this in some way or another. I think it is because it is easier to ridicule when in a virtual world without worry of direct repercussions. In real life, it is much less common for a complete stranger to simply walk up to you and say "Your clothes are UGLY!" or "Spoiled brat! Your mommy and daddy bought you that!". Because if this WERE to happen, they would get a mouthful of anger returned to them, or just a fist to the face. Rather then give benefits of the doubt for hardwork people will often take the negative. Since we DO see this in game, it shows their maturity level is VERY low, their self-esteem is even lower, and most of all, they are a COWARD because they know that they have no repercussions to worry about... sad but true.

Errr, anywhoo, tahts my 2 cents.
cheers.
