"WTB Duo 870k commission"-contest!

Well, I tought I aint gonna have the time to do a commision for this contest, but it looks I was wrong
Last night I had some free time and I decided to do a little painting for this commision. So here it is.
I realy dunno what I wanted here to do with the background (you can see how its not rendered very much). I had an idea of some abandoned, ruined theatre where these two ladies have stumbled upon on their journey. And on top of that theatre theres a long time petrified piano (or organ maybe, with strange "pipes" ), but since it's long pertified long time ago, Shan has to use her magic of illusion to call upon the spirit who dwelves in this thetre to play her some beautifull melody...
So I wanted to do it grayscale with just effects and spirits hands in color, to get some cool effect. And the only reason I drew this character is, well, she had shorter skirt :P

Ok since I have a bad habbit to redo and tweak every little detail I (or other people) see missfit, I think I'll stop right here... Otherwise, Im 100% sure that Im gonna miss the deadline for entry submission. Yeah there are things that still have to be changed here... but, I'm gonna leave it as it is, becouse I don't want to leave too nerdy and proffessional effect on you guys...
Im totaly ok with the way it turned out (not satisfied as such, but I like it)

I also added Sanra (hehehe), so she can be added to a story, like she's sitting on top of runed monuments and invoking a melody that spirits tries to play back...or something like that..

Babaroga, that's just awesome! The background is beautiful, and I love the backstory to it. One thing that looks a little odd is her skirt... it looks more like shorts now. Maybe loosen it a little from the front, so it doesn't look like it's dipping that radically between her legs? Her armpit area looks a bit odd too, but it's not as eyecatching as the skirt.

Anyway, very good job otherwise. I love the mood in it, and grayscale really suits the overall image. Brings out the magic.

Just upgraded my PC, and I'm having a nightmare getting my tablet to work with CS3. Doesn't help that the company who make the drivers went bust some time last year, and so don't support it anymore >_<

You are totaly right regarding the skirt... As I said Ive done it in one day couse I was in a hurry to complete it before the entry submission is closed. However, since they have changed date to 24th, I'm definetly gonna tweak a lot of little thingies in this image
And regarding the arms...Hmm I realy dont see anything odd there... But I might be wrong

Hahahah, tusheeeee!

Babaroga, if you look at the position of her head closely, it appears like her head is more on the left side (for her) of her body. The length neck-right arm (for her) is longer than the length neck-left arm. Why this looks like that, is probably due to the armpit thing that perynne pointed out. If its not that then its this: Her left upper arm is too short, its missing length at the top, the arm shouldn't "join" the chest that early, but more to the shoulders.

That said, I have no idea what an arm pit is ^^.

You are completly right... But anyhow, I like the overall feel of the image atm, and Im surely not gonna go and fix those thingies, because (if I know myself well, and I think I do) Im gonna start doing 90% of the image (or whole) from screatch. And that, I can't afford atm

Hey everyone, i did my entry the first week and havn't really gotten back into editing it so i'll just re-post it now for entry into the comp. I realise the quality of the other works and that its not really comparable but i still like the clean-cut style of it and am proud to share it with all of you!

I like that one, but the shadow of the shield handle bothers me
Indicates that the shield isnt connected to the handle

oh thats a great point, i'll fix that up! if anyone else has any suggestions please feel free, i want to get it as good as i can

Very nice entries everyone ^_^. I particularly find the feel in Nian's entry quite interesting. The colour, and the rough liens give the whole piece a "wild" and "loose" feeling. I like it ^_^

Asp, I like the concept of your entry, very classic and yet non-redundant since it's a dynamic scene ^^

Yay, I finally finished my last entry ^_^

So here it is, my single Sanra entry
entitled: The Younger Days: A night on the Town



I know it looks like Shan because of the bangs but I tried to recreate my younger Sanra hairdo in movement and it didn't really work out like I expected :sad: so I adapted her dress to try and match Sanra's armor colors(the Courtly one at least). I know none of the characters have GW armors but I felt like that would give the whole piece a weird feel, so pardon me if the whole thing doesn't look Guild Wars-y.

I went loose for this piece and did cell art, it's different but lot's of fun. The overall look isn't as nice and clean as I'd hope but I doubt I'll have time to re-tweak it until Tuesday :s .

Anyways, great entries so far, the contest really brought out the best of artists(and it allowed me to try out some new stuff)

Grey, the whole coloring is very nice, and I don't want to sound offensive or anything but I noticed something that kinda looked weird to me:
1-When I looked on your sketch, Shan was on the right while Sanra was on the left, yet the shadows on Shan are on the left and those of Sanra on the right...so that means either the chess board is glowing or the light source is in between them. Other than that, it's really nice work so far, can't wait to see the finished piece

Oh and Egnki, that's just lovely ^_^. And you're not bad at backgrounds, you're actually much better than me at them >.< I like the whole concept and feel of the piece too

Love the entries guys! They're all amazing.

Aj: make the smile broader and less creepy and u get a good shot

Eg: darken up the background and you'll probably be a lot more satisfied.

Gf: sanra's eyes look surprised, is this on purpose? Also, I think her belly is a bit too muscular make it more of a belly to show more beauty .

Ors: She's so pale!, Love the contrast it creates though Could you try a few darkening layers? Perhaps it'll turn out even better. (chances are that you should modify the skintone a bit, or it may look grey)

Kay: Try closing her eye a bit to make her look more seductive Also, the left arm (for the viewer right) doesn't attach right to the shoulder, the arm looks fatter halfway the arm than at its start. Oh and her breasts are a diff size

Asp: Nice and clean but very skinny ^^. Try add some shading below the mesmer? The ground overall is a bit erm... clean for ascalon ^^.

Nian: Erm.. awesome... perhaps have shiro go ohhhh and ahhh? It'd be stunning to see these two ladies in such clothing ^^. Text in a lighter colour is an option aswell if you want the text to come out more clearly.

Tea: Try and press your colored pencil harder to get deeper colours, it works great, I've done it a lot lately, you go through ur pencil twice as quick but it gives a great effect to mix light pencilstrokes with heavily pressed ones, and I wonder, will there be eyes?

This all said: All beautiful work I just hope that you find it possible to perhaps use these words to your advantage.

Noes! why did I only find this today! *sigh* I would have entered but I've got a university interview on the 24th lol so I've kinda got to get my portfolio and such ready *cries*

Nah just kidding , your advice really helps. I think next time I do something I'll show you the lineart before I color it since most of my hicks are in proportions and stuff >.<

And for the arm thing, i actually took a photo of a friend doing said pose to not mess up proportions and from the angle her arm was, the middle was indeed broader than the arm near the shoulder, I agree I should've "attached" the arm a bit farther from the neck though.

Oh wells, thanks for the tips, I'll try and tweak those before the deadline but I doubt I'll have time seeing as changing the lineart also requires me to redo a bit of the coloring. Oh well, we'll see if a miracle happens ^_^.
