Just say NO to advertising in things you're PAYING for!
You have no concept of what the prices would be for these things "you're Paying for" if they didn't offset the cost with advertisements eh?
Welcome to the real world.
Movies will cost $15 in the fantasy world you are looking for.

I'm all for in game ads if it will help Anet turn a profit, that after all is the reason they make the games that everyone trashes them for not making good enough.

Edit for a great idea
Kill two birds with one stone and take care of the people who want mounts so badly.

you realize that the box office profits make up for 99% of the movie production itself right? majority of the times they exceed it.

the sale of dvd's are 9 times out of 10 extra profit they seek.

since the movie production itself is outweighed by the box office take-in and the actual cost of making and packaging a dvd is less then two dollars, ads wouldnt offset the price one bit.

they put ads on dvds to promote other movies that either a.) did poorly in the box office. b.)didnt go to the box office at all. or c.) movies that are coming out soon.

but thats with the movie business. apples to oranges my friend.

as for games. advertisements in magazines help them sell copies. thus helping with production cost.

selling adspace in a game that they already, in my opinion, dominate the market with, is just a way to get more revenue from their prize pony.

but alot of gamers see this as a sell-out. i.e. swat4.

when vugames introduced in game ads to swat4, they did it in an update and didnt tell anyone about it.
when the mass of the gamers found out, they got pissed, as if vugames sold out.

of course they did it to offset the cost of the production of the patch cause really, the game sold poorly.

but they could of implemented it better and not force feed it in a much needed game update.

so it all boils down to for me, if they did implement ingame adds, its how they do it that would sway my opinion.

login screen, sure why not.

in the actual game. no.

No ads. Just no. Once it starts, you cannot control it. I'd rather pay more than have to deal with annoying ads every time I play.

Well thanks for the thought on trying to keep GW1 alive with Ads but no Ads please i too rather pay more for content then being force to look at ads everytime i play.Game are a form of get away from everyday life and been invaded by ads is not something i want to see as well.Login Ads are fine anything more = boycotting the product there are plenty of choices around just don't force people to make that choice

Oh, by the way, I asked about in-game ads once a long time ago (when another game added them) and one of the co-founders gave me such a look, and then said, "Gaile. No." I sorta slunk out of his office.

So no worries, guys.

Anyway just for note this is better done with a poll to get anything constructive out of it.

Eg.
1.Yes to Login Ads only
2.Yes to Login and Ingame Ads only
3.No to any form of Ads

in-game advertising works for some games. I found that advertising made battlefield 2142 look more realistic. but please, no ads in GW.

"Pre-nerf" is incorrect. It's pre-buff.

There was a massive debate about this in Battlefield forums , especially when it was revealed that the ads would be accompanied by a third party data gatherer, in esscence spyware. This is not a good policy to adopt as alot of gamers myself included reject the idea of introducing such programmes on our pc's, it's good to know GW would not be going down this path, i for one would hesitate and have to rethink my decision to purchase a game with this included.
