Welcome to the real world.
Movies will cost $15 in the fantasy world you are looking for.
I'm all for in game ads if it will help Anet turn a profit, that after all is the reason they make the games that everyone trashes them for not making good enough.
Edit for a great idea

you realize that the box office profits make up for 99% of the movie production itself right? majority of the times they exceed it.
the sale of dvd's are 9 times out of 10 extra profit they seek.
since the movie production itself is outweighed by the box office take-in and the actual cost of making and packaging a dvd is less then two dollars, ads wouldnt offset the price one bit.
they put ads on dvds to promote other movies that either a.) did poorly in the box office. b.)didnt go to the box office at all. or c.) movies that are coming out soon.
but thats with the movie business. apples to oranges my friend.
as for games. advertisements in magazines help them sell copies. thus helping with production cost.
selling adspace in a game that they already, in my opinion, dominate the market with, is just a way to get more revenue from their prize pony.
but alot of gamers see this as a sell-out. i.e. swat4.
when vugames introduced in game ads to swat4, they did it in an update and didnt tell anyone about it.
when the mass of the gamers found out, they got pissed, as if vugames sold out.
of course they did it to offset the cost of the production of the patch cause really, the game sold poorly.
but they could of implemented it better and not force feed it in a much needed game update.
so it all boils down to for me, if they did implement ingame adds, its how they do it that would sway my opinion.
login screen, sure why not.
in the actual game. no.
