“It’s the end of the world as you know it and I feel fine.” A fitting song for a great game.
So with Guild Wars 2 in the works and no hope of moving any ectoplasm or platinum over and all other things coming to an end for Guild Wars 1 how will you all be preparing for the inevitable end?
1) I intend to NOT FARM and just enjoy myself with the richness and beauty that is Guild Wars 1.
2) I intend to go for some titles such as Protector of all three regions to carry on my legacy.
3) I intend to laugh at people selling items for great sums of platinum that will be worthless in about 18 to 24 months time.
4) I intend to do something with my life outside of Guild Wars and tell my friends to hold off buying GW1 until GW2 comes out. OR get GW:EN if they already have it.
5) I intend to complete all quests in UW and FOW so that I can see all there was to see in this great game in preparation of GW2.
Overall I think a reboot is necessary sometimes within a computer game community. A fresh start, as you will, with new economies, triumphs, and failures. A new saga as you will to create a new GW legacy. ANET I know you know how to make games gamers like to play. I am seriously looking forward to an exciting conclusion to this miraculous game and creating a fresh beginning.
As with all Great novels all things must come to an end. Thank you for everything that is and will be GW1. Its been a wonderful journey so far and I’m ready now to face the new great saga that will be GW2….
P.S. “So long and thanks you for all the fish.”

if your preparing and worrying about a game that, probably wont come out til 2009, you have seriuos issues and need to seek mental help from a proffesional.

I remember that song...
Anyway, what I'm going to do is I'll probably blow all my cash to commission some really nice pics of all my characters before GW1 cash has basically no value and artists only accept GW2 gold. 'Til then I'll just mess around in GW when I'm bored until Hellgate: London comes out. Then when Eye of the North comes out, I'll break from Hellgate for a bit. Then it's back to Hellgate 'til GW2 goes live at which point I'll have to assess which game is more fun and more worth my time.

Yes but by the reactions of the community you would not think so... GW1 has officially ended with GW:EN being the final conclusion. Many in this community are upset over it. I was at first but now I'm not. I am now looking forward to the inevitable end.
AND WHAT A COMMUNITY PARTY THAT WILL BE!

For other MMOs, where expansions that increase the level cap are announced, do people stop raiding/questing to get the best items for their levels ? No, not till the expansion is close to getting released(say, a month to release)

what some people dont realize is that in the pc gamer article it specificly says they are going to keep a seperate team to keep on making content for GW while the other game is being worked on
Tempy
Exoudeous that's not enough...you know nothing is ever enough for most of these people!!!!
Personally, gonna keep enjoying the game. And if I hadn't already, I would make sure to break the local channel as there is nothing but bitching about this now....well and of course the spam.
See ya all on the flipside

Even thou they have seperate team i don't think it will be like it used to be.Maybe they might shutdown GW1 (1-2yrs time)If all goes well with GW2

I don't know why, but reading this thread just made me bust out in laughter here at work. Thanks, GloryFox!
What will I do? Continue to enjoy this game as I always have. When GW:EN comes out, I will buy it, and enjoy that at full capacity. When GW2 comes out, I will probably buy that, and enjoy it at full capacity.

Great song reference, GloryFox. I've seen REM perform that song -- they are really amazing. Michael Stipe has enough energy for a dozen Elementalists.
Yes, that's very true! We have a long time, which is a good thing but, because GW2 looks so great, might be a bit of a bad thing, too.

I keep having this feeling as long as there is a fan base they will continue to add onto GW 1. You guys maybe right that Eye of the North will be the official end point. However there are other side stories in GW that never got explored, and contents that never came to pass. I doubt it will be the last GW expansion to the series. Look at the original Everquest and Neverwinter Nights they continue to flourish.
As for myself I am getting my other characters what they need to get before Eye of the North comes out. Considering it will be geared towards high end level characters.

Title: It's the End of the World as we know it (And I Feel Fine)
That's great, it starts with an earthquake,
Birds and snakes, an aeroplane
And Lenny Bruce is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs,
Dummy serve your own needs
Feed it off an aux speak, grunt, no,
Strength, no, ladder start to clatter with fear
Fight down height
Wire in a fire, representing seven games,
A government for hire and a combat site
Left of West and coming in a hurry
With the furies breathing down your neck
Team by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low playing!
Fine, then
Uh oh, overflow, population, common food, but it'll do
Save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs,
Listen to your heart bleed
Dummy with the rapture
And the revered and the right, right
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright light,
Feeling pretty psyched
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
Six o'clock-TV hour
Don't get caught in foreign towers
Slash and burn, return,
Listen to yourself churn
Locking in, uniforming, book burning, blood letting
Every motive escalate
Automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a votive
Step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crushed, uh-oh,
This means no fear cavalier
Renegade steer clear!
A tournament, tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
(It's time I had some time alone)

(It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
The other night I dreamt of knives,
Continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line,
Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom!
You symbiotic, patriotic,
Slam book neck, right? Right
It's the end of the world as we know it

Only a mortal being with a limited life span can imagine that things can last forever...
One of the greatest things is starting a new game and discovering it. Diablo II is still being played, however, so games don't necessarily die out so quickly. I know I still play D2 from time to time. As long as there are people playing GW1 there will be a reason for the servers to stay on. I can imagine though that even the most hardcore fans will want something completely new after playing for 4-5 years.
I am really looking forward to GW2 and in the mean time it won't keep me from enjoyng GW1...Our guild is already talking about reforming in GW2...It will be nice to have a good group of people to start with again for more adventures and stuff

I'll still be playing GW1 and GWEN until GuildWars 2 goes live. Already pumped for GuildWars 2 ! Bring it on Anet !

I'm thinking GW 1 will last a lot longer than all of you had said. But with a Guild Wars with a better Pve, what can you expect from most PvE players? Yeah.
Gairoh
2 years is still some time from now....I'll continue to enjoy guildwars, perhaps more than ever until GW2 arrives...
I'm very looking forward to GW2. It's good to have something new and start fresh....A whole new world, whole new begining....

time enough till gw2, to get my main character trough every one of the 3 campains as protector and grand master cartographer.
and if money value is dropping in the next 2 years, i will just use it all on things that i can get with me to gw2... for example minipets

I'm going to continue playing GW as I always have because I play to have fun, not to build up wealth or achievements. Certainly those things can be fun to attain, but they're a means to an end, not the end itself. As long as there are things in GW that I enjoy, I'll continue playing right up until I get GW2, and maybe even after as well.
If people are seriously changing how they play GW because of GW2's announcement, I think they need to rethink why they're playing in the first place. Consider this, the hint of the century: It's a game, not work, so just enjoy the experience and don't stress over it not being permanent.

Oh c'mon! it's not the end of anything yet! And I have seen a lot of shinny happy people who really looking forward to GW:EN and GW2. I know everybody hurts sometime, I know how you feel.

At this point I have to ask..
Why were you farming so much in-game currency? Did you enjoy the farming itself? In that case, it shouldn't matter if you're moving on, because you can farm in another game.
Did you farm it to use to increase your enjoyment in-game? You've got a good 1-2 years to burn it off as you see fit. Have fun.
Did you farm it just because you want giant numbers of money? Why would you farm if you didn't enjoy it for itself, or intend to spend it? There's a saying, 'you can't take it with you.' No sympathy here... play the game as a game, not as a second life.
Over 20 million xp I've farmed will all be lost, and I feel fine ^^.

I know, for one, I'll be buying all of the armors I've ever wanted after the expansion comes out. There's not going to be anything else to spend money on, and I can't take it over to GW2. I might as well spend all of my money and enjoy what I've got while I've got it. If selling things for platinum is how I'll fund that, then so be it. There'll be someone who will buy because I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way.

I'm not worrying about playing a "dying" game. Any game's days are numbered from the moment it comes out.

Besides, you can still play GW 1 after release of GW 2..
