Is Hard Mode destoying my current achievements ?
MarcinJ13
I like the idea of Hard Mode. It will give players chance to do lot of stuff they did before once again.
The thing that worries me is decrease in dificulty in Normal Mode. I think it is very unfair to older PvE players.
This difficulty decrease will cheapen titles achieved so far. I don't talk only about Protector titles. Of course theese are affected the most (anyone who ever swear at Thunderhead Keep or Gate of Madness know what I mean).
It will also affect the GMC title. Especially GMC of Tyria (since you had to explore during missions).
I don't know yet if it will work in all the areas or only during missions. If it works everywher then all my GMC titles can go to hell. It wasn't only about going with one arm scrapped and bruised by the nearest wall. Sometimes it required fighting through lot of enemies (Sothern SPeaks).
Also it will cause more players to do "chest runs" as they were easier in high content areas. This affects Wisdom and Trasure Hunter titles.
Since there is lot of players who are only PvP oriented, I will give you a comparision: It is like introducing fame points in Random Arenas.
I wich I could be more articulate, because I can't even describe how disapointed I am.
Maybe it is time to start playing other games, where loyal players are rewarded instead of robbed.

We've also decided to add a number of PvE-only Sunspear skills, which will be available to players through both Normal and Hard Mode.

We'll have to wait to see the list of everything they changed, but I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.

if you think that the hard mode will cheapen your current titles then just let the update go un-noticed, for the rest of us it will be something fun and challanging to do.

I don't understand. How does it cheapen the cartographer title?
If I got it correctly, it goes like this: Everything will stay as it is, but if you want, you can make things harder for yourself.

Normal mode will just have some of the annoyance factor removed while hard mode will be more interesting and challenging. Least that's what it sounds like to me.

As someone who just finished my Canthan GMC title, I'm not worried at all.
From what Gaile said, it sounds like the changes they're making to "normal" mode will simply undo some of the rather unpopular recent updates, which I'd welcome.
Well, that and the Afflicted explosion thing, which always was a horrible idea. I always felt sorry for the brand-new Assassin class, in particular.
"Welcome, Assassin! You're a melee glass cannon. Oh, did we mention the world is entirely populated by things that explode when you kill them? Have fun!" ^_^

Of more interest are how the 'no one will lose titles' quote from Gaile will balance with the supposed maxing of lightbringer that Hard mode will bring.
Now, AN may make it easier(e.g 3 points per kill) to get LB 8 in hardmode, or they will create a super leet LB rank of 9. which may cause people who have max LB title now to lose KoBD/PKM etc and I guess the final option is it was a title mix up and it was only Sunspear that has another level to it.
If LB rank is set to 9, there's going to be some cheesed off people who are going to have to kill a load more stuff to get their PKM back.

Waiting for the farmers to complain about the better drop rate with hard mode and not being able to solo it as well as normal mode... that being said
Normal = Same with some tweaks of the annoying stuff
Hard = Challenging area with more rewards
You still keep your "Protector" titles, just can go after the "Guardian" titles as a Lvl 2.
I'm looking forward to this change, especially being a fire ele that doesn't use echo/arcane echo.
There was a method where you can go afk, and let your hero/hench kill things endlessly that gave LB points. They closed the loop hole but some people did reach max rank.
Some people got lucky, others are calling for removing there higher ranks.

Here's a key fact: None of the PvE titles mean anything, not even survivor. Yay, you managed to not die against enemies that always use the same set of skills EVERY SINGLE TIME. Or worse, you farmed stupid mobs/leeched off of people/paid to get xp. That sure is impressive. Cartographer, woo, you can run around the map. Mission completion? I got 14 masters in Elona the weekend it came out, and I wasn't going for any of them on purpose. Skill Hunter? That just means you spent a crapload of time capping elites you're never going to use. So, cheapening the titles? Give me a break. Fixing monster AI, and the only thing you can say is that the titles get cheaper? Amazing. I won't even mention Lightbringer and Sunspear because those don't mean anything either since they're both grindfests. The only people who would think that these titles mean something are those who think doing the same thing repeatedly over and over again shows skill. It doesn't.
I can't believe I almost forgot the one use these titles do have, e-peen. That's it.

so when do we get the two modes? I'll welcome them because I'm tired of all these "just to piss you off" things that happen all the time.

2. There is really nothing better to distinguish PvE skill in this game than some of the titles. If someone has Grandmaster Cartographer or Protector or Skill Hunter, you know at the very least they've been there, done that. You can trust their skills to an extent, moreso than the guy displaying 60% Cartographer or some low title like that.
They're not definite showcases of skill, but they're the best we have, same as rank in HA.

I do agree with unienaule- the titles are meaningless. They Don't Really show much skill, except for the protecter titles, and having survivor or GMC doesn't show ur a good PvE'er. 've only played for 6 months, have very few titles, but i still get complements on my PvE ele work, regardless of my titles. BUT what they do show is that you put the time in too do something, like stay alive forever or explore everyplace, and that is why the titles are actually in the game. (see drunkard and sweet tooth- those have no point other then what is stated above.)

The OP should REALLY pay more attention to details...
Gaile, as well as the GW official wiki states that Hard Mode will decrease the difficulty of SOME AREAS ONLY. The example given was the explosion of The afflicted in Cantha, and also the Vizunah Square + Unwalking Waters missions. There was no mention of Area Nerfs (wow, I never thought I'd say that ^.^) in Tyria. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY FOR ONCE, and keep opinions such as this to yourselfs until it is released.

Any title a person goes for is going to have meaning to that person. Most people could care less about what other people think about the titles they're working for. And what holds value for 1 person may not hold that same value for someone else. And as for how easy titles are to get, yeah, most, both PvE and PvP, have easy ways to get them (IWAY, anyone?). But what you CAN'T know is how someone came about getting their title, so don't be too quick to judge. You could make the case that ANY title in the game (PvE or PvP) are meaningless, because they will be to someone.

I agree with unienaule for the most part, except that yeah, PvP titles are on the same level as the PvE ones. The only real things they require is time and dedication. You have a maxxed title? That means you applied time and dedication to that aspect of the game, nothing more.
However, there are a few reasons to go for a title. One, is of course the classic e-peen BS. Another reason is a personal goal. The titles add another in-game goal to keep people who like goals from getting bored. Titles are also a unique way to RP, too. I am currently trying to get Sweet Tooth on my female warrior because it fits her personality. My Ranger has Survivor because it fits his personality/backstory. Personally, I only go for titles as an RP thing, which kinda in turn is a personal goal.
