Figured It Out: THE IRIS FLOWER LET GWEN SURVIVE THE SEARING!
Glass Of Water
Ok, we all know Gwen is alive...all signs point to it. Let me break down my thought processes for you:
1. Preserved Red Iris Flower found in Elona. The Frog hints that it is a sign of Gwen's status.
2. The Iris Flower survived the searing somehow...one logical way it could have done so is if it held some magical property to ward off the deadly magics of the searing.
3. If the Red Iris Flower has some magical defensive property against the searing, it may be able to protect someone in posession of it against the searing.
4. We all know Gwen collected LOADS of Red Iris Flowers, perhaps having them enabled her to survive the searing using their magical properties. (maybe her crown of flowers was made of/held Iris Flowers)
5. Gwen's mother was an herbalist, one who used plants and herbs to heal the sick and injured.
6. Perhaps Gwen's mother (or Gwen herself using her mother's tools) made a herbal mixture using the Red Iris Flower as the main ingredient. If it had magical defensive properties against the searing, perhaps whoever used the herbal mixture would be defended against it.
*Note: People are saying Gwen is a mesmer because there is a picture of (what is believed to be) her in the new magazine wearing what appears to be green mesmer clothes. One of the things Gwen says in pre-searing to you is:
"When I grow up, I'm going to be a hero like my daddy. I'd like to be a warrior, but the mesmers' outfits are nicer, don't you think?"
So maybe she is a mesmer, maybe she's a warrior/mesmer, maybe she's just a warrior in mesmer's clothing...or maybe something totally different.
Thanks for reading my ramblings, and I hope they make sense to soem of you!
PS - Is that a small flower in gwen's hair in the illustration of her in the new magazine?! O_o (God she's hot)*fap*fap*
PPS - "EYE" of the North! Red "IRIS" Flower! OMG!!!!!!

Gwen always has had the GW community on hold, well it has had me wondering about what heppened to her, anyway if she is a mesmer she will still be cool.

That's very interesting.
Now, this one's really obvious, and probably isn't anything. But when you abbreviate "Guild Wars: Eye of the North", keeping the smaller words out (like a lot of people have), you get...
GW:EN / GWEN
Dun dun dunnnn.
Hopefully, we'll find out more on the strange little girl this time.

If thats the case then Gwen truly IS evil - if she could make an herbal bulwark for the Searing, then why didn't she share it with anybody? Gods know there were red iris flowers all over Ascalon, she could have saved a few more people...

How can one protect against giant meteors from the sky? A flower potion!!
I find that hard to believe.
Another explanation to the fact of an Iris flower survive the searing could be that the flower wasn't even at Ascalon by the time. If you walk around in pre-searing Ascalon, you'll find multiple red flowers ( i believe, the red iris flower). You'll also find similar flowers in Kamadan, Jewel of Istan. Does that mean those flowers were in Ascalon and, because of their magic proprieties, got teleported to Elona? No!

Maybe Anet planned this since the beginning O_O (CONSPIRACY!!!)

Well since GW2 takes places hundreds of years after GW....it would be pretty illogical that the girl in the magazine picture would be Gwen. Possibly a descendant of Gwen since no one knows for sure what happened to her.
Ive always thought of Gwen as being one of those great mysteries of the game that if ever solved would end the GW series. Perhaps Eye of the North introduces us to Gwen's decendant. Maybe we will finally find out whats up with that tapestry shred Gwen gave us in pre searing.
Anyhow, I am still mad at Anet for what I have read so far bout GW2. Its still highly doubtful that I will buy GW2 unless my play style changes.

Maybe Gwen was kidnapped as a child by the Charr and managed to escape at the border of the Northern Shiverpeaks. The Deldrimor Dwarves took her in.
After the siege at THK, and the subsequent Titan invasions, they gave her to Kilroy Stonekin for safekeeping in Sorrow's Furnace. Some years later, the mine flooded and everything froze.
Hundreds of years later, Gwen's body is found in a state of perfect preservation, having been wrapped up neatly like Kilroy's brother, and thawed out again. She still lives in the caves, and has discovered its many secrets. She discovers the portals to all 3 continents, but does not venture far outside.
Corsairs picked up the preserved flower, which she accidentally dropped outside one of the underground entrances, and which she had kept with her ever since the Charr destroyed her beloved Ascalon. They put it in a chest for safekeeping, intending to bring it to Herbalist Makala first chance they could.
Alternatively, it was the flower itself that put Gwen to sleep for ages:
*Wicked Witch of the West voice*: "Poppies... poppies...."

1st - The variable profession hero, was razah. They just hadn't choosed the profession yet and so they called it variable.
2nd - we will not use other professions' armor in eye of the north. That will be a feature from gw2!!!!!! Then, gwen's armor being mesmer's one can only mean she is a mesmer!!
3rd - Eye of the north will not happen hundreds of years after the other campaigns, it will be just slightly later and thus our characters can and will meet gwen! Only gw2 ( not eye of the north) will happen hundreds of years after gw1!!!
Can't you understand a little bit of what your read?

Tide to Go
I say there is a reason behind the mesmer thing
she always told you she wanted to be like dad, and wanted to have devonas hair
what proff. is her dad? HES A WARRIOR.....
so maybe the norns culture was that only males had certain proff. including, warrior, and females a diff.
i'm almost 90% sure anet diden't go that far into it
but i'm very sad that her dream of being a warrior diden't work out
maybe she like Athena the most after all

I like your idea Glass.
But how did she get to Elona?
Got bored of Charr and walked to the desert, found a teleporter, and walked all the way down to wherever the Preserved Iris Flower was?

Ya, I fell into the trap gervasium mentioned... getting GW:EN and GW2 mixed up lol. So my timeline's a little whacked. :P Aww, anyway.
Puebert, the underground connects all continents, that much we know. So if our chars can get around under there, Gwen can too.

The articles have been rather vague as to the timeline that GW:EN takes place in and till it comes out....we wont know the exacttime line. We do not have enough information bout GW:EN right now and wont for a few more months.
And yes I can read and understand most things I read and I can even count without having to use my fingers and toes. There are numerous articles both in print and on the net about GW:EN and GW2 all of which put their own spin on t hings so yes it is easy to be confused as to GW:EN and GW2. So instead of being insulting and condensating...you could offer polite corrections and information interpretations.
And now with th at..i am calling it a night. Sleep well folks

Besides, some people rely on what they see on the battlefield to see what's going on, if they mix the appearances, pvp'ers will be just screwed even more than they are right now.

Sorry, I didn't want to be rude. It's just that I had just come from a forum where people were saying the seers lived in Orr and that the mursaat had sunken orr because they hated the seers... I was really irritated with that. I apologize.
However, it has been told that GWEN will pass shortly after the previous campaigns. And, about gwen, she will really appear on GWEN and I could bet that with you. If you read the PCgamer article, right by the woman's picture, you can find a legend that states we met that woman as a child in prophecies and we'll meet her on GWEN. It would be rather silly from Anet to make that child be any other than Gwen, since there's no other relevant child we find in the prophecies campaign.

on wiki ( not guildwiki but the real thing ) Gw:en will follow on from the prophicies campaign, so it will happen after the door of kalmirie (Spelling) opens the path to the Relm of tourment and releaces the titans into the land of tryia.

It is intended as a bridge from Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2, and will introduce the new races of Norns (dwellers on the icy slopes of the Shiverpeak Mountains to the north), Asurians (inhabitants of the western Maguuma Jungle) and Sylvanians that will be playable in the sequel.

In the face of Tyria's greatest challenges, heroes have arisen to thwart the forces of darkness. The Titans have been driven back to the demon realms, Shiro has been unmasked, and Abaddon has fallen.
Now a new darkness threatens Tyria. Great earthquakes wrack the lands, opening huge underground complexes beneath the earth. Boiling up from that darkness, an ancient enemy may spell the end of the Age of Man...
So the events of Eye of the North takes place after the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

Many people asked me how I presumed Gwen was traveling. That...I haven't exactly determined yet. Since the preserved Iris Flower shows up in an area infested by SKALE, which were also numerous in pre-searing, their movement may have something to do with hers (not to mention they also somehow survived the searing). If you remember correctly, most of her item's in post-searing were found near major bodies of water and skale. I'm presuming she is traveling by boat...if not by the new series of "underground tunnels" which will be discovered in Eye of the North. If she is traveling by the new tunnels (I'm leaning toward the tunnels), it would seem that many amphibious (sp) creatures are also using them as a method of transportation. Her tattered cape was found with a breed of SKALES near Fisherman's Haven....and the preserved Flower was found near more SKALES in Elona.
I am quite certain Gwen's movement is somehow tied to the Skale.
IMPORTANT:Remember this....the many breeds of SKALE survived the searing somehow (which is also where many of her items appear in pre and post)...and if they happen to be traveling by underground tunnel, Gwen may be as well. Perhaps any creatures in the tunnels could ahev survived the searing?
EDIT: The "Ancient Enemy" which will rise from the underground may be the skale that survived in the tunnels with Gwen...VERY probable considering that if Gwen is traveling underground, so are the skale that are always near evidence of her movement.

A scale...? -.-
Kotetsu Rain
In pre-searing Gwen had many adventures with you. You explored the cornors of Ascalon together (hopefully) but she never went into the catacombs with you for she had also heard the rumors of how dangerous it was.
Heres what I think happened. The Searing starts fireballs falling, echos of Charr noises raging throught Ascalon. (Probably over exagerating but you get the picture.) Gwen tries to run away but she knwos if the Charr are invading then theres nothing that can stop them from finding her in any of the towns they're plundering. So she runs to the one place where no one will ever think to look (dropping her flute on the way). The Catacombs.
After wandering and roaming, there she meets Asura's who also live underground. They protect and raise her so she has absolutly no contact with humans. (Kinda guessing since she (if it's her) looks so nervous and shy in the pic in PC Gamer.) So she's chilling with the Asura's in the Catacombs popping up from underground and losing her stuff.
When she came up from the catacombs in Stingray Strand (or nearby) for whatever reason her cape finally falls off. (tattered girls cape) Deeply saddened by the loss she cries and goes to wash her face in the water.
Then wouldn't you know out pops some Corsair pirates there to rob the girl. gwen having had no contact with humans for so long but also not being stupid decides to give the last thing that she has to remeber of Ascalon. Her preserved red iris flower... The corsair want more but then they're jumped by the Asura who after the scaring away of the Corsair scold Gwen for roaming off on her own and down to the tunnels/dungeouns they go.
Crazy yes..very crazy. I don't even believe any of it myself but I wanted to cntribute SOMETHING.
Please delete if people start flaming me or become scared of me. Please?

Okay on to the real thing. The last we saw of Gwen was when the searing hit. We know sometime after that the Charr moved through to Orr. I have one theory. This actually doesnt note the existance of the Preserved Red Iris flower before people jump in asking how did the PRI flower end up in Elona.
My thoughts are that maybe the Charr that went on to Orr took her. Of course knowing the Charr she would must likely had been struck down at first sight. But going off their Lady Athela kidnapping, they could of perhaps taken Gwen through to Orr with plans to burn her at somepoint. When they got to the outskirts of Orr....BAM......Orr goes down.
It sinks after the explosion leaving hundreds of Charr dead and hundreds other wounded. Gwen who is held near the back of the warband is on ground hit by the blast causing the ground she was on to give way. She falls through with other Charr and somehow lives. Wounded she is found by the Asura.......her stuff washs up on the shores.
Eldin
Glass, you bring up a LOT of valid points. But knowing ANet though, they haven't planned out Gwen's story yet and just like confusing us.
Perhaps Gwen put her soul into her belongings? XD
We will have to hunt down all of her belongings and put them on some poor sucker, which will allow her to possess that person.
...though future-Gwen looks too much like Gwen to be a "poor sucker" unless the possessee (victim) gains her traits.
...or, here's a third theory I posted in another thread:
...or maybe Gwen IS the flower! Those crystals were huge but there were a ton of flowers, they couldn't ALL have been smashed to pieces (plus they only would spawn when you went near them, even lessening the chance of them all being wiped out).
-----
EDIT: Wait! The Frog said the preserved red iris flower is a symbol of Gwen's condition. Does that mean she is preserved, as in safe from harm?

Plus, how the hell is Gwen, who was like 7 in presearing, now like 20something in GW:EN? It's obvious that she has time travel abilities.

So yeah I think Gwen in pre-seering is around the 7-10 age range which would have to make her in the 10-13 range. She kinda looks like a teenager to me.
Unless they make it that Gwen happens a couple of years AFTER you kick the Lich to the curb it'll be a mystery to us all.
My guess is thy're gonna say that time goes faster underground.

The campaigns are set a couple of years apart, so by the time of GW:EN she'd probably be 15-17... I think.

It would seem EotN happens perhaps a few years after the defeat of Abaddon (after the statement on the EotN page on GW Website)
