Hard Mode: Set drops from Chests...?

While SS farming, I bring a couple lock picks with me. I find that when you open a certain chest that spawns in the same place, you get a "set" drop. 3/4 Times I've opened the same chest(Well, where it spaws) it's been an ancient axe. 2/3 Times a different chest(again, general area of the same spawn, not the same exact chest) it's been an Elite Monk Tome. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm going to stop opening some those chests soon since they keep dropping the same crap.

There is a chest in Mirror of Lyss that my guildie and I opened on 3 consecutive runs. Each of the 3 times we both got a purple item, and also it was the same purple item (ie we would both get branches or both get ornate scythes). That was enough coincidence for me to avoid that chest.

Ooh, that does seem bad. Hope A-net fixes that.

I hope they dont. Would make chest runs more efficient if you knew you would get a good drop from a certain chest.

And you think that your going to get a good drop from something if its the exact same everytime? It will be worth nothing within days.

Earlier i was farming the Vahlen (i think thats his name) Dervish boss outside GoD for sunspear. A guildy said they'd found a Ripper Blade. Low and behold, a few trips later, i found a chest containing a Ripper Blade. An item i've never even seen before today. Coincidence? Whatever...

coincidence? I don't know, I also found a ripper blade on that run (I never saw one before as well) but that blade dropped from an undead (as opposed to from a chest). It isn't a new item or anything, guildwiki's article on it exists at least since november 2006.

I've expirienced something quite as same in barbarous shore. Earlier i opened chest and i got req 13 war hammer, run later my guildie opened the same chest and he got req 13 war hammer.
coincidence? i dont know yet.

It also happens to treasure chests. Got 3 wooden boar scepters (the standard treasure item) but here's the catch, they had same stats. Also got the same golden axe twice.

I haven't experienced this... I have opened one specific chest plenty of times (20+ thus far) and had quite a variety of items. Some appear more often than others sure but not had the exact same thing twice.

Also it does depend on the area/mobs near it.

If you open a chest in in the explorable area outside Iron Mines for example you can only get a mursaat garments from a chest if is near a mursaat mob, and avicara guile tunic if its near an avicara mob, or dwarven armour if it's near a stone summit mob.

I've done several chest runs out into the Desolation now around Crystal Overlook in Hard Mode, utilizing about 70 lock picks now and still searching for that Elemental blade. I wouldn't "completely" agree with you guys about the "same" drop returning from the chests that spawn in the "same" place, but there is a somewhat uncanny coincidence sometimes.

The chests that were in exactly the same place almost always yielded the same color of drop, gold or purple. Some chests that spawned in the exact same location did yield the same skinned items a few times. ~75% of the chests yielded gold drops on the runs.

In normal mode though, ~75% of the chests yielded purple drops on runs in the same area. I'm starting to avoid Normal Mode chest runs altogether now. I didn't notice a trend in the Normal Mode chest runs because I only did 1 before I decided to never go on another.

In essence, I somewhat agree with you guys that there is a weird coincidence. It isn't always true, though, that the chests drop the same skinned or color drops time after time.

I've gotten dwarven armor when there were no stone summit in sight... I think it is only based on zone, not mobs.

I have farmed the southern shiverpeaks for a very long time (over a year) and never once have I come across a chest that doesn't match it's nearby mob. Also one specific chest in Frozen Forest only has white mantle armour if the white mantle spawn has appeared, so it must have some link with nearby mobs/spawns... I'm convinced the fact I have only got mursaat garments when it's the mursaat spawn and white mantle garments in the white mantle spawn is down to the mobs being a factor on the loot, anyway. The statistics it's all been chance would be mind-boggling

In hells precipice, the magma lake chest doesn't drop you any undead items, while the chests at the portals do.

There are no undead at the lake, but there are undead guarding the portals.

Its based on both, every time i open a chest near some pop up oni its most of the time an oni blade, daggers or shroud and this is the jade sea where they dont usually appear.

I've also had it happen when farming that opening certain chests in the same place has produced the EXACT same item, same mods and all. The odds of this happening are astronomically low if the chests are based on pure randomness.

When we were doing some stygian runs yesterday, and just clearing the 95 mobs that appear, we would run to the back and there was a gold chest there every single time. Did about 5 runs, each time, every person in the 8 man group got a gold. Also it was about the same weapons too. All 5 times i saw a nightmare spear, and a silver boar sceptor.
