`Nerfed` Charrslaying mods from Collector Louise Haup
Synles Chyld
When did this happen and why did this happen i was really lookin forward to using these +25%dmg to Charr mods on the sword an bow this collector has. I had planned to create the ultimate wpns for GW:EN Charr killing heaven but sometime in the last week or so they got nerfed on me now they are just normal +20%dmg vs. Charr so I really would like to know ...'Why Why Why'
lol i apoligize for the drama but c'mon man was it really necesary to do this???

Because no +dmg item is greater than 20%. It's called Balance. If they kept those in people would complain there weren't +25% vs undead or vs ogres or vs dwarves or whatever. 20% is the number, and should be enough, deal with it.
Mentalist Ellie
There's also the unscruplous types that take advantge of those sort of items. There are many players that don't know about them and pay dearly for it.

I wasn't aware that they had reduced the damage bonus until you mentioned this and I then went and checked. I guess they did this because no other weapon mod available had above a 20%, and as far as I knew the bow grip that the above mentioned collector had/has was only ever a 20% ...but yes, the sword handle was 25% before. More unmentioned changed to the game I guess... really wish they wouldn't do this kind of thing without posting it in the news, but they always have and probably always will continue to sneak in little changes without telling anyone... despite how much it annoys the player base.

Anyways, it wasn't nerfed, it was balanced. Just like the HoD axe? got balanced, and the 15% FFS got balanced.
fenix
meh, it's only 5%. No big deal if you ask me
capitalist
It is about principle. I am still bitter that they nerfed my 15% FFS. You can not tell me it made enough difference in the game to deserve a nerf. Same with this. Seriously ANET...

This is PvE for crying out loud, the balancing requirements are completely different... the actual outcome is that GW is becoming more bland and dull with every patch. No variety.
Armors became similar. Weapons become similars. Skills become similar.
At this point it's probably best to vote with your feet and skip GW:EN, rather than stick with the bland uniformity that the GW metagame has become.

I bet it's down to GW:EN, but you'd figure they'd just balance the game with 25% mods in mind, rather than nerf them. So long as all players have access to the same tools (which actually isn't the case now), balance shouldn't be an issue anyway.
Standardising everything just makes the game duller, if you ask me.

which, ironically, this change ... changed. its not avaiable for everyone anymore and those few who have some actually can make anyone pay dearly. I dont call THIS ballance.
Its hod sword all over again, except, 15% axe and hod sword actually proble PvP ballance, 25% vs charr breaks nothing ... it actually makes you suck a bit since your weapon has now one less mod.
wts charrslaying sword pommel, 100k+ectoes (oh noes).
---
most important fact is that theese upgrades were never popular and were only thingie for weapon collectors. maybe 20% was not enough, hell, reall easy to get 25% was not enough to make pugs require it.

Thinking about it though, does certain weapon get carried over to GW 2 (the Charr are a playable race)? If they do this mod would cause an unfair advantage. Otherwise I would say keep it special to the prophecies campaign, since there is a need for certain unique stuff there.
Bryant Again
Just balancing things out. No complaints here.
Haggard
Weapons don't get carried over to GW2. Only a record of your acheivements.

From Guildwiki, 19th of April 2007:
All new and previously existing Ascalon Longbows and Ascalon Razors from collector Louise Haup have been nerfed from +25% (vs. Charr) to the normal max damage +20% (vs. Charr). It is still possible to salvage these mods. Mods that were salvaged from previously existing Ascalon Longbows and Ascalon Razors are still +25% vs. Charr.
uhmmm seems they forgot a bit :P :P

well all ill say is, dont be stupid enough to buy these inflated 25% mods, because you can bet your bottom dollar they will get changed.. as been said.. balance is the new word for nerf..

I can see why the "enchantment" axe was nerfed. I can see why the hod health weapons were nerfed. Why the FFS got a nerf along with the Rockmolder. But why a damage mods against charrs? What unfair advantage does it give actually?
"Wooo I do 5% more damage against charr"

Interesting...
I'm assuming I'm one of the few that actually salvaged one of the 25% mods, with the intention of modding som misc. sword.
Really, what does 5% matter???
Kinda neat I suppose, like having those 15% always/unconditional weaps (before my GW days, I might add). Cool....I'm one of the GW pre nerf grandfathers. :P

Wow. Its a good thing I made my Charrslaying bow two weeks ago. I was wondering where I'd get the mod and then I remembered that bow I got from the collector outside Sanitarium. I like to have things ready in advanced(meaning when I have the money) and so I salvaged a useless bow and got the mod. I have to admit that my damage modifiers are ridiculous. I have +20%, a perfect 15^50 inscription, AND the +25% of Charrslaying mod. I went to the Flame Temple Corridor and in NM the Charr all died in one hit.
J3mo
OMG OMG OMG 5% less dmg, people we shouldn't even start playing GW:EN, without that mod it will be waaaay too hard.
Rofl, come on people, what are we whining about, it's only 5%

balanced doesn't necessarily mean equal
Odinius
For all we know, the Charr could be our allies in GW:EN.
Wielding a +25% dmg vs. Charr weapon could be quite offencive.
Wanna start the war all over again?...

I hope Charr get a 20% vs Humans in GW2 ^_^
TedTheDead
I actually assumed they were going to do this and grabbed a charrslaying mod of each weapon type lol. I was indeed correct.
Fear my 5%.
Fear my 5%.
Sophitia Leafblade
It was only a matter of time they did it once HM came out (since people returned to Charr populated Areas)
Zedd Kun
Can someone explain to me what FFS and HoD axe were? Don't remember :S
Carinae
The Charr must have complained! LOL!
You think I'm kidding about balance run amok in PvE? Granted, this change doesn't amount to much. On the other hand, this change doesn't amount to much, so why spend programmer time to alter it when there are more pressing issues?
Hmmm.
Reduce Charr mods by 5% or
Fix Soul Reaping or
Fix Necrotic armor or
Build Auction House, or...

Things that need less work come out first, since they get finished first and dont require as much testing.
changing existing mods to 20% will take a LONG while vs changing what the collector has.
Jetdoc
Did they change the old 25% mods to 20% too, like they've done with previous nerfs?

It's a shame, cos that was going to be really handy to strat vanquishing and HM-ing the early Proph mishs. I had been concentrating on NF so far.
And to all those that say 5% is nothing, why is it that 15%^50 is worth money and 10%^50 is not, I beg to differ that 5% extra damage means nothing
Cassandra
as I posted before, according to wiki if you had the mod attached to a weapon, it got nerfed. If you salvaged it and then had it sitting in your inventory, it got spared.

Fixing Necrotic armor is EXACTLY the same type of fix as this Charr fix. Necrotic armor has a broken mod and it needs updated...just like the Charr mod.
And yet, Necrotic armor has been broken since October.
But, YAY!, Charr last 5% longer!!!!
