ATS Rewards, and implications for Balance with PVE

1. If, and only if, the ATS skin rewards contain armor and weapon skins that are from Tyria and Cantha, and the PVE equivlents remain shut out from insignia and inscriptions, pvp chars will have a customising advantage over pve chars.

2. I know this is not gamebreaking, and this topic is not to discuss how good or bad the ATS rewards are, just the topic of possible imbalance in terms of verstillity with pvp vrs pve items.

My personal opinion, is that if the ATS rewards contain PVE skins from Tyria and Cantha, the older campains need to be upgraded to the current system for armor and weaponary, and tweaked for possible issues with overpriced insignia ( if any, prices have been dropping on some items, like bloodstained) in order to mantain (and fix) parity between all of GWs areas and gamemodes in terms of equipment verstillity.

Example: if ATS skins rewarded 15k female Warrior Kurzick armor, and it was insigniable, i would like the same functionality on my PVE warriors idenctical armor.

(salvage odds being changed to 100% for mods would be nice too in my thoughts, but, thats just a related issue that might crop up in terms of pvp and pvp equipment verstillity, and might not be nessesary)

Give me inscriptions in Tyria and Cantha and I would be a bit happy. Nothing like getting a rare drop with a crappy mod that can't be changed.

How is this different from the thread already posted? Seems like a veiled "add inscriptions to everything" thread, and a weak argument about the PvP Skins.

the other topic had little discussion on the fact that pvp chars and Nightfall armor/weaponary are more verstile the the old stuff, and the fact that i can currently make a pvp warrior with radiants on knights armor, or that future armor skins for pvp will be the same, if its not Nightfall/core skins.

the other topic also has alot of arguement and flaming about jealouslys, about skins deserving a place in pvp, ect, very little was said on the topic of armor verstillity, i scanned the whole topic myself.

And, i feel a announcement about ATs news with lots of discussion on them being good or bad is differnt then a topic about armor imbalance between campains and gamemodes.

plus, if i bother to post anything in the ATS announcement topic, it would get buried in the flames like the 1-3 other posts that said anything about armor verstillity for tyrian/canthan equipment skins between pvp and pve

and, Asides from the Anet sales pitch on inscrips and insignia being nightfall goodies, is there any sane reason to make and keep Tyrian and Canthan equipment obsolote in verstillity and modding?

casue, its absurd enough that i predict that any chance of this upgrade is coming with GW:EN, but that it seems pvp players get it first and early?

Equipment verstillity has been broken in GW since NF launch in PVE for older equipment, and it makes no sense not to upgrade it, and fix any problems with the costs of insiginia, if theres any problems left, aside from LT insignias.

The one thing that can probably invalidate my imbalance arguement, is if pvp skins that used insignia and inscrips were Nightfall or pvp only skins, which they are not now at the present time, and, the odds of ATS skins not including Tyrian and Canthan stuff is....33% to my guess.

Its kind of a reward for pvper players thats all.

Some of them don't enjoy PvEing or like to get a rare skin but don't have enough to get the skin in perfect stats. They stay that way, because they spend all their time and "work" pvping. I don't think its a big deal.

If this thread didn't contain the word AT, then maybe it could be a more valid/viable approach to getting PVE armor upgraded across the board. Right now it's just being used a some kind of unfair balance or excuse as to why you want what you want, and what you feel is right. I haven't seen threads before from the community bitching about how I can make my short sword 2million times if I please. Yet now with the possibility of so called RARE skins, the moaning happens. Anyways yeah I PVE too, and I do think the older armors should be able to make use of insignias. Weapons are a whole different story. Even many PVE skin/gold farmers/collectors call em whatever, would throw a hissy fit because once a weapon can be inscriptable,it severely dampers the coin some one can gain from said weapons.

I have no issues with pvp playerrs getting more equipment skins, thats not the point of this topic,

My point is, that i want that same verstillity and functionality with my PVE Knights armor that a pvp warrior gets, and to apply to ALL Tyrian and Canthan equipment.

I can give examples of updates that changed all stats for crafters and existing armor, like the changes for Dreadnoughts insigna to swap the stats and wording around, and keep the same effect.

theres plenty more updates too to show it can be done, if anet can change stats, cant they change insigniability?

weve already paid for our existing armor stats, and there are ways to deal with issues of newbie armor being used to mass produce insignia.

sorry, had a lagged double post.

Edit, there has been alot of discussion in the past, i can compare it with the Razah Topics.

only differnce is, armor talkes died, Razah didnt, and we got a cheap Razah now.

and yes, its almost like a excuse, but, however you look at it, there is a painfuly obvious equipment imbalance for verstillty and functionality.

and, i think it has been ignored, cna someone find me a single dev chat or quote that has them saying anything meaningful on this other then, no, its not coming yet in the occasional Galie ingame chatlog??

The point isnt that they should add it.
The problem is that they will add it, but then why take so long to do so?

The same thing happened to Razah, Pet controls, acess to UW/FoW (with hard mode)... all these things we have been asking for a very long time and they add just in time we get to say "about god damn time"

waiting for GW:EN for the hope of old armors being fixed is a year from Nightfall launch or close to that, waiting a year for something as basic as equipment to be balanced in pve is absurd to me

and yes, i even doubt that if we dont bother to ask, that old armors getting fixed would NEVER come, heck, Razah had more discussion then this topic on GWO and Guru from the topics i monitored, and it lasted longer, and actualy had meaningful dev quotes.

i worked hard for my tyrian and canthan armor, paid for it, is it too much to ask that they get updated when the armor system gets revamped?

With GW:EN being the last significant expansion of GW that we see, and GW2 on the horizion, I just hope to see that we can get our old armors and crafters UPDATED to the curent standard.

proably my last significant point for the night:

GW;EN has new armors and equipment added into the game along with heros, the odds of this stuff not having insignia and inscriptions is next to nothing.

I fail to see how a PvP Dwarven Axe that's inscribable is unbalanced compared to the crafter's axe in Camp Hojanu. It's just looks, there is no statistical (dis)advantage, therefore no imbalance. There's already some of it with the HoH chest.

Haven't heard anything about any revamp of the armor system. But they did it for FoW stuff, so there's hope.

eh... i spend all my time and 'work' in pve, and haven't gotten a decent skin in perfect stats... hell I haven't even gotten a super common skin with perfect stats O.O i hope these rewards are just like forgotten sword that pve can also get perfect without too much trouble, and not like... a dead sword or elemental sword or IDS...

I have a hard time believing you spend so much time and work in pve, and haven't gotten a decent skin in perfect stats, maybe you need to lower your expectations.. y'know.. maybe get a 13 req, or a purple.

Why did you list IDS? afaik they're still 20k.

Like I posted in the other thread: I highly doubt the skins will be much better than 1.5k armor (maybe certain 15ks) and common skin weapons. It would add a huge amount of variety, while the rare skins (Crystalline, FoW armor) are excluded. I don't think Anet is stupid enough to put expensive/rare skins in. You can have plenty more variety with only common skins.

I just hope that, if Anet is stupid as the above poster said, that they allow my roleplaying characters to reap the benefits of the reward. It is completely ridiculous that in order to enjoy my reward I would need to roll a brand new Necro when my current one is just fine, just because I am open to both gametypes.

You can't go show off that warrior in Lions arch.. PvP characters are bound to the battle isles and the Guild Hall. Keep that in mind, and try to keep this in context.

Think of it as a gold cape/rewards given to the pvp-ers who deserving earned the points needed to unlock it.

Well with Prop/Fact Armors and Weapons. They NEED runes and insignias, period. Thats a seperate matter altogether that needs to be addressed.

Theres already the natural advantage a Nightfall character has over the prop/fact character in terms of customizability and skills (power creep anyone?). You should take THAT up with Anet.

In a level playing field, however, a PvP warrior loaded up vs a PvE warrior loaded up with identical chapters accessible to them and the same amount of unlocked things, are pretty much even.

The difference is how long it takes to get them fully loaded.

So no, imo, ATS reward skins would not do anything to imbalance gameplay. They are only, after all, skins.

Depending on how Anet implements it, it could mess with certain parts of the economy but nothing even close to hardmode's increased drops of certain things.

I have my issues about ATS reward skins, but balance is not it.
