Opening gates?

Was born into game yesterday and some things totally stump me-cant get anyone to give me straight answers-am hoping to find them here.
1) Why are people always asking for someone to open a gate? is there more to the city a new person spawns into than they are allowed to see as a noob? I dont get it. Also was offered an item in trade but had to meet at The Garage. Couldnt get anyone to tell me where to find this place-not eve the person I was buying from. Never saw a game so hard to get answers in as this game. Would appreciate all help and thanks-

The 'gate' you see everyone talking about is the Gate of the Great Northern Wall.
You can get to it by exiting out of Ascalon and traveling west until you see a guard under a barricade.
It takes two people to get through it. One to go above it and pull a lever- and one to run through the gate and zone for both people.


The area above is meant for 'higher level" players in Pre Searing- though it's not that bad out there...

It's where most of the Charr are in Pre Searing.

Usually when someone wants to trade, they'll want to meet you somewhere first.

You can usually click their Character on screen and press the space-bar to run right to them.

Or you can type their name into your party bar and press enter. then click their bar and press the Space Bar.

Either way- I've never heard of a Garage in Pre Searing...

In presearing, theres really no place you cant get to as a beginner.
There may be places you havent traveled to yet though.

Prophecies is a great Campaign and where the whole Guild Wars story started for the current trilogy.

If you explore a little around the locked gate in question, and you will know where this is if you have the quest, then you will see the dilemma. You need someone to open the gate from the top of the Gate Tower.

There is going to be a lot of strange lingo and shorthand talk you will see in chat, and it is very difficult at times to get people to explain things.

But, don't worry about it. Play the game, be a noob, because you are a new player, make mistakes and learn from them. Just don't be too quick to give away your money for what appears to be a good deal...

dont even bother with other people for awhile, just listen to what the NPCs tell you until you get a feel for the game.

I suspect the person who wanted to trade with you misspelled storage. The Xunlai storage agent is where a lot of trading happens because that's where people often access their items for sale and/or their gold. If you were in pre-searing, the trader may have forgotten there is no storage there. If, however, you made it to post-searing in your first or second day playing, you're a quick study.
