Species with 'least concern' would be even better.

I don't know what the problem with the pygmy hippo is. Anet changed the color of the Crane's head to make it less like a real whooping crane, so I guess there is a precedent for avoiding the implication that it's ever okay to harm an endangered species. And you can't really change a hippo's color to make it a plausible not-hippo. |
The problem with the Pygmy Hippo was purely coding related. There were some issues with the skin causing some people to crash (no clue why) and because they couldn't fix it before Nightfall's release, they replaced them with Crocodiles.
