Speculated GW:EN Release Date

Ok. I wouldn't have started a new thread for this, but the keywords "GWEN", "eye", "north", in the search section does not find any Guild Wars Eye of the north threads for me to type this tidbit in.

so sorry if this maybe a "very short, no-point for discussion" thread.

As the topic states, this is to narrow down our speculation on when the GWEN expansion pack is going to release. If anyone has seen the time period the new Return to Tyria sweepstakes occurs between, it probably doesn't take a genus to narrow down when the release will come.

Anet says third quarter of 2007 which is b/w July-September. But with the Sweepstakes underway and one of the awards is the Eye of the North game, we can now predict that the game could come out by 4th of July or mid August and no later than September 3.(this is so b/c of the Holiday 2007 statement they said as a release period for GWEN) and for the fact it has to be b/w 3rd quarter time frame in calender, and because the Sweepstakes ends by July 17 and a winners are chosen by July 20 maybe end of July the latest. Winners should recieve their prices by Mid August.

Anet won't give players a game that they can't access to, so most likely GWEN release date could be very close to 4th of July.

if anet doesn care for winners to have game before release date then, they won't give them the game too early so the release date can't be no later then Sept. 3

As far as I know, Anet said it was some time in September, but I haven't read dev notes in a while...

It'll likely be October 28th, a year from the Release date of Nightfall and 2.5 years from the original release. ArenaNet likes to release things in 6 month intervals.

i ended my post to include why the release date wouldn't be past Sept. 3.

It is Labor Day. so i would say maybe then or a weekend after labor day.

but Zinger, those who win the sweepstake will most likely get their awards by mid august, september the latest. Why would Anet give the Eye of the North if they will release it by Oct. 28. That definetly can't be the case.


also October is 4th quarter. if that was the case Anet would have said so or updated the delay on the product.

Gamestop has had 8/27/07 since the beginning. I'm guessing it's pretty accurate since everything else we've heard lines up well with the date. I asked Gaile in game once about it and she shrugged it off saying "be nice if they told us that", but didn't deny it so take it for what it is worth...

gamestop picks random dates so they can start asking for preorders, they never have the right date unless its been offically anounced already

Remember that they can send the game to the winners, but the servers wouldn't be active yet. So they couldn't actually play it.

Play.com originally had GW:EN up as a 1st September release, but have recently changed it to 27th, as have a few high street game retailers aswell...

they may all be pulling that date out of their collective asses, but as they are all the same date, and most do indeed get dates from the software houses (who are the ones that change the dates as we know that the game retailers have no clue about games really and just want to get them on their shelves and then sold... Oh, and i used to be a manager for GAME in the UK, so I do know about this)

July 31st. theres my prediction.

End of August at the earliest.

they can release/ship the box/discs anytime they want. Keys, Servers and content dont activate until they want it to. How many of us have had a game preloaded (Beta, pre-release or whatever) loaded and ready to go just waiting for the go live on the server end

According to this news article on the GW site in will be released in Q3 which is July, August, September.

Which probably means the winners won't be announced until August. This is so the company can verify that winning entries are not ineligible for any reason.

And I keep reminding people in these guessing threads that GW:EN is going to be the central focus of the booth at Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) which ends on Aug. 26th. This is why all the on-line game stores are listing it as the earliest possible release date. No one's going to OOH & AH at the show over a game they can go home and play.

The following weekend is the long Labor Day weekend, the USA's cultural end of summer celebration. So that is a good chance of being the "3Q Holiday release", as there are no other holidays until the 4th quarter of the year.

You people are not thinking like a businessman (or woman). You look at the calender and think that the last four months of the year is Q4, its not. In the business world, Q1 starts later so that they can count the after new year sales as part of Q4 so that investors think that they finished the year out strong and keep their stock prices high.

Gaile has already stated (or was it Alex? anyway) that its Q3 of 2008, not Q3 of the fiscal year of 2008

I'm really liking this speculated time. day of labor day or the weekend after labor day.

because there are 'glass half full' and 'glass half empty' types, and then there are the 'glass is emptly because it's had a thermonuclear warhead dropped in it directly causing complete disintegration' types....
