Stupidest Question You Asked As A Beginner ?

i will never forget this...
My question was... how come guild wars doesnt total up the total armor u got (came from wow) and y does the hands and feet piece cost less materials than chest and legs if they have same stats?
thot total armor was each piece adding to each other so when i was wearing my knights armor i thot i had 400 armor. Then a person taught me how armor works in this game and now i know y chest and legs cost more :P

"How do you make an armor?"

I didn't ask this question out loud (thank god) but I reached the Northern Shiverpeaks and a Dwarven Armor dropped for me. Upon realising that it said 'Armor: 19' - higher than my armour - i tried to wear it.
I thought to myself: "Why the hell isn't this going on," after minutes of double-clicking and draggin and dropping. :P

Me and my husband started playing together last year. Luckily he asked all the stupid questions, and I asked him. I think the worst was " What is a build? "
And my most stupid mistake was when I got a Green Weapon and I could not sell it at the merchant. I thought to myself that's stupid so I discarded it. I want to kick myself for this one.
Experience is very difficult to gain, because you first write the test and then learn your lessen.

I never felt like asking any questions, so i was in a party heading oout to nail Galrath, when someone asked me why i, being a necro, was running around with a hammer xD

I got my first character to the Wilds and couldn't figure out why I kept dying so often. Turns out Pre-Sear armor was not meant for the Jungle. Who knew???
Also in Pre-Sear I bought Gwen a stupid flute, but hit the button too many times so I had 4 of them. The stupid merchant wouldn't buy them back from me, so I had no idea how I would ever get them out of my inventory. A few days later I noticed the trash bin on my inventory screen. Heh. Oops!
A guildee picked her character based on looks and outfits alone, she's such a girl. She picked mesmer for her character, and a hammer as her weapon, took hours to get that damn hammer away from her...lol.
Same guildee needed people to help her get through Fort Ranik cause it was just impossible, yeah she tried to fight all the char instead of using the catapults. So we help her out, and she gets all excited when she realizes catapults can kill from a distance, so she starts clicking madly on them, not realizing her teammates are directly under them. GRRRR....
Finally, and this was after she had been playing for over 6 months, we get her to factions, we are helping her do a quest. Suddenly we see her character just go running off and we ask her, "where are you going?" to which she states, "I'm following you guys." Um....
Turns out she followed some random canthan peasant to god knows where, after 10 minutes of looking, we finally found her body and I rezzed her under protest. Ah the good ole days.

The guy i was teamed up with two years ago when I started playing is probably still laughing because I asked him...
"Can I pick up some of the gold so I can get a fair share?"
I, umm, didn't realize that each gold drop picked up was automatically shared.

After seeing "WTS: Purple Long sword 3k" I asked "Why are purple weapon worth so much? Purple dye is only 200g from the trader"
Ouchie
"Where do I get glittering dust?"
One person tried to sell me some for 1000g each
another person told me about the material trader
Later I found out about salvaging it for myself.
Even farther down the road I found out about guildwiki
It's easy not to know things when you first start out, too bad there aren't more nice people to help new people out.

Not so much a stoopid question, but more a stoopid statement...
(in Trade chat) - WTS - Many blue weapons, whisp to see!!!
The odd thing is, I actually sold a few of them too... hehehehe, 200g ftw

I'm not generally the sort to go into an unfamiliar gaming environment and start asking stupid questions. I prefer to just watch people and pick things up myself....
... but after despairing for a while with the then-young Chae Soon on Shing Jea, I asked in the monastary:
"Could someone tell me some good solo-skills for an Assassin?"
[Some griefer nasty had told me that Assassins were good for soloing when I'd asked on GameFAQs before buying the game. That was the main reason I started playing as one in the first place. If it weren't for herohench now I'd probably have given up the game entirely.]
I think perhaps one of my classic idiocies was noticing some people around Shing Jea making strange comments... and I tried replying to them....
... and I only found out later that they were going for the Drunkard title and the automated comments were just a side-effect of drinking booze in-game.
Yes. I spent about half an hour trying to have a one-sided (and very confusing) conversation with drunkard automated remarks.

Here's some more I thought of -
if we can rez when we die ---- Why can't Rurik?
Will we run out of rezes one day?

June 2005, somewhere north of Surmia: "Do we ever get to see a green place again?"
I randomly wandered from the Courthouse to Yaks. I can't describe how good it felt to walk that last few hundred paces in the Ascalon Foothills and see the scenery slowly change to white snow and green trees.

"Why do PvP players make fun of PvE players, when most of them don't have the skill to go out with a group of henchmen and do PvE themselves, fighting things with higher levels than them like the skilled PvE people do?" What's funny though, is that I've been playing for more than two years now... and those are still valid questions in my opinion. Sure, eventually I did start doing some PvP, but I'm still not willing to play a character with levels, armor, and skills I didn't earn for that character... I'm just not that lazy or something. Oh well. |
To the second one: higher leveled monsters do not pose even close to the same challenge as fighting intelligent human opponents. And, if you check obs mode, you'd see that most top gvgers play with maxed out pve chars, so really the best pvp players have destroyed pve, and moved on to pvp.
Now, on to my noobish questions:

Also, I remember getting to post, and accidentally clicking on the map...seeing it zoom out, and going, "Oooooh...crap." My friends had started playing a few days ahead of me, and they said they were in yak's bend when I got to Ascalon city. When they told me it was in the mountains, I was like, "How the heck did you get there so quickly?" XD

Not so much a question but something that took me a while to figure out. I get a shield that drops, has req x str on it. I'm thinking, hm, somewhere I must have attributes like dexterity, intelligence, wisdom......and strength. I just can't find it in the character interface.
I do remember the very first thing I had to figure out -- how to chat in-game. I kept pressing 'T' like in Diablo 2.......and the point and click interface made combat and movement pretty easy.
edit: I saw someone post a few pages ago about districts. I remember trying to find a friend; we were both in Old Ascalon but couldn't find each other, then I had to call him on the phone when I had that flashing lightbulb moment to experiment with pulling down the district menu

What is this Searing thing people keep talking about?
Friend I met in Chat:Meet me in Ascalon
Me: ok, i'm in ascalon
Friend: Which district
Me: the lower one... by the merchant
Friend:No, in the upper corner it says ascalon, american district #...
Me: Oh, 2
Friend: Ok, i'm there. You aren't at the merchants.
Me: Yes I am, between these carts.
Friend: Which merchant?
Me:There's only one. Unless there's another somewhere up stairs like those weapons guys.
Friend: Is it all green, and there is water near by?
Me: Yes. The watter is around the corner.
Friend: You're in PreSearing.
Me: No, I'm in Ascalon.
Friend: Yes you are. Have you gone through the Academy yet?
Me: I haven't seen that on my map yet. Is it near Ashford Abey, or Foibles Fair?

You get the idea. I didn't know the game took place in different time lines. My friend didn't want to spoil the surprise. Made things kind of interesting in guild chat.

My first time in Ascalon (post-searing) i saw a guy spamming "running to Yak's Bend, 500g" and running around the city like mad. So i thought that this is so freakin awesome that there are races in outposts and i can win 500g. So i started running with him through the city looking for a bend called Yak's. After awhile i asked him "when will the race end?". No reply, but i felt like an idiot when a finally got to Yak's myself and started to grasp the whole running concept.
