How have you been making $$$ to buy the things you need since loot scaling
D8tura
Hey guys - sorry if this thread already exists but i did search for one.
ok, loot scaling - like it or hate it, we have to deal with it
since the nerf I've been having a very hard time making enough money for my 10 characters (play all professions) and all their heros. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say this. If you have been finding ways to make a few gold to support your ungrateful hero brat children please lemme know
Thanks guys please don't turn this into another "oh noz loot scaling" thread

Well, I haven't made much money at all since Nightfall, I've just been spending it. BUT, a few guys I know have been making nice money from Vanquishing zones. The drop rates are better, and the actual drops are better too, plus there's chests. So they've been getting some nice stuff, which they can use or sell. That's one of the best ways I think, but I normally just make money from trading or HoH or whatever.

10 characters = ~200k and 120 gold weapons from free chests.

Honestly, I don't really "need" that much cash. I give my heroes the stuff that I get in drops. I buy runes for them, but that doesn't cost too much. I also don't fully outfit every single one of my heroes, only the ones that I use a lot.
Collector weapons don't cost much at all, just the time spent collecting the items. If I really really need a specific weapon NOW!! I'll look it up on wiki and find the collector that has the closest item to my needs.
Sure, there is a lot of stuff that I want but can't afford. (Perfect gold Chaos Axe, 2nd year minis, lots and lots of skills) but I'm patient. I just save my pennies and I'm building my gold supply just playing the game normally.

I'm able to craft a full vabbian set for my paragon BECAUSE the prices of the gems drop.
I feel like I shouldn't be happy.....but I am...
Oh, the guilt.
(tbh, I don't ever solo/play with less than max party so....)

Sell stuff. It's the only way to get around.
Personette
My gold intake went way down right after loot scaling was introduced, but it's gone back to normal now...and I haven't changed the way that I play at all. I suspect that they've been tweaking and recalibrating the way loot drops.
So for a while I was just losing money, and it made me very uncomfortable - but now things are fine, I buy my normal stuff and still have gold left over.

I dont care much about income since I always goes with a full team.Smacking bosses and doing quest as always.

Despite playing for ~2yrs, I'd never solo farmed until about 3 weeks ago, so am ignorant of the pre-loot scaling glory days.
Out of curiosity I decided to try out HM farming as a solo ele.
Since then I've made ~400k - mostly selling tomes and sup vigors. The white/blue/purple drops fund my lockpicks, my heroes get the runes and gold weapon drops, or I sometimes salvage out the decent mods and sell those too.
I have >10 chars + heroes (lots of mouths to feed!) and am quite content with the amount of money I'm making. No plans on spending any of it until I see what the new armours are like in EotN though!

I used my 55 to farm in HM, not everyday only when I'm fed up of playing the game. Spent around 30min-an hour an a half, got somewhere between 5-10k total. I'm not a power farmer or anything. I don't really need golds this day but it's good to have them anyway.
rohara
haven't figured out a good way to make money post-loot-nerf yet. seems tomes and greens are the way to go. i got a whole inventory full of nice gold items nobody wants
Mournblade
I just keep playing the game normally. I have four active characters, so between them there is always something that needs to be done. Just selling junk to the merchants puts enough money in the bank for me to afford what keeps me amused.
Jetdoc
Playing the storyline (i.e. missions and quests) solo without heroes or henchmen.
I've actually been in a tome buying frenzy for the past 2-3 weeks, and still haven't seen my gold levels drop significantly.

just open the locked chests in HM

Easiest answer: Killing stuff
How:
Exploration (got about 80K from Cantha and Elona).
Vanquishing gives a fair amount of gold.
Hard Mode missions
Playing some DoA or other elite areas with the guild
I keep forgetting opening the unlocked chests
Is that enough?
I think so, since I don't need to 'pimp my heroes'.
I give them the good drops I find, hardly any runes and no special armor.
When I need to do hard missions/quests, I prefer human players and not pimped heroes.

My main source of income, sadly, is free treasure in Elona. I'm trying to get all my PvE characters through the game so I can have access to them all, but it's a real pain. I miss Prophecies in that if you wanted to, you could completely skip the whole storyline aside from a single mission, if you just wanted to get to the Ember Light Camp. In Factions and Nightfall, however, you're forced into "enjoying" the game. I've "enjoyed" Nightfall about 5 times now and I'm pretty sick of it. All I want is to hit the major outposts and capture some elite skills.
Anyway, I used to be able to make about 20k in under an hour farming Griffons. Now, I basically make 20k every month. So my goal of buying three 15k helmets for my warrior, for each weapon type, has taken the past month.

The new changes benefit players who generally use a party of 8, but slightly hurt solo farmers. So I guess it's good for me...

less gold, more golds. This helps my wisdom title big time.

As for pimping Heroes, its not needed, my heroes have GOTY weapons, the odd rune here or there and no Insignias and they still do an amazing job assisting Hard mode

I simply am only playing one character at the moment the others are all just there waiting. I make enough gold to keep my ranger going and slowly attain titles such as sweet tooth and drunkard along the way. I don't expect to ever be rich, I spend as fast as I bring it in. If my Ranger ever gets all the titles she wants - she has 13 maxed right now, but none of the expensive ones, then I will work on my monk next. I don't expect that to happen because I do believe there will be an overlap of what I am currently working on and GW:EN, but you never know.
warren_kn
I mainly make money from selling mods and inscriptions and from buying and selling weapons at a profit. Since I am doing the skill hunter, cartographer, treasure hunter and wisdom titles I always carry keys with me so there is no shortage of mods to sell.
mazey vorstagg
I've got a secret solo farmin' ele up my sleeve. She can make about 5k in 30min np, which is all I need atm.

I've been waiting for those chests to respawn since i farmed them on the April 4.th - checked them last night May 23.th ... nothing!
Might add that this is my main character that i play a lot, so if any kind of "farm code" or "activity level" is involved in the equation it shouldn't interfere with this character.
I've been doing a lot of Hard Mode and that seems to pay the bills nicely!
bungusmaximus
I don't need too much though, I used to AB and exchange faction for amber, but the last time I visited the merchant to sell it the prices rather scared me :P. For hero gear I do tomb runs, the stuff you find there isn't worth a lot of money so I can't find an other purpose for them anyway. As for the rest I just pay the game and get enough income. Only buying al skills always drains my gold, but that only happens once every character so I'm poor and happy.

I'm not making gold like I used to, no. Can find more golds sure, but people arent buying the majority of them. Its not so much that I'm finding less, its more that there just isnt a buying market anymore. Prices have fallen and its hard to sell many golds for anything of value so I merch just about everything, save the odd perfect inscription, elite tomes, occasional green. Seems to be a combination of everyone finding much of what they need as well as having less income they wish to throw at the more frivilous purchases. There are of course a few skins still really valuble, I just havent found much of anything to write home about in quite some time despite finding more golds in general.
However, its not like I actually need all that much anymore either. I've cut my play down to a single character from nine of them - my monk. It just got to be too much management to even consider running nine sets of heroes or pursuing nine sets of titles. I'm simply only working on and playing with one character, and from that standpoint, there's not much she needs. Sure, there are things she wants even yet though.

Commander Ryker
I made all my gold before the loot nerf and didn't spend it all on every stupidly expensive thing out there. So I still have the majority of it. After GW2 comes out, we really won't need it anyway since we can't take it with us.
Taurucis
I stick poor little Margies full of sharp pointy twigs.
Makes about 400 gp in 10 minutes on NM... Sometimes more if I get lucky (which never happens)
But I haven't been able to make any money since farming was nerfed. Good thing I only need 80k for my Dervy's vabbian armor. -.-*

Orphan Anthem
Ive started a mission/bonus service for normal and hardmode missions, make about 100k a day if i really want to
Dr Strangelove
To be honest, I'm not even sure how much money I have anymore, other than I have enough not to care. Also, it's been 4 months or so since I've farmed.
Painbringer
Just farm for pets. Go charm a pet then trade it to the pet trader repeat. LOL just kidding. I actually have noticed that questing gives you ok (not great) money. You just have to slow the pace down for spending your cash. If you are used to the 55 solo cash (Example Dead sword farming) you are making much less. Back then just the crap drops salvaged for material and traded made tons of money.
IIIPowerIII
I've made enough now... Event with loot Scalling im usually getting 1 gold per urgoz run...
klrk
farming my secret way
60-100k per hours
60-100k per hours
Vilaptca
9 characters, and the free chests.
3 of those characters I am able to farm with.
I've got my Ritualist parked in Urgoz, farming that a little bit everyday.
My Warrior and my Necro have quite a few farming builds that I just hop around between. Try not to stay in the same farming spot too long. Seems to reap more items if you move around enough.
I haven't really had a problem with money yet. Also, so many characters, I've been getting a birthday present about every 2 months. That really helps there, especially now that my characters are starting to get their second year presents.
Other than that, just playing the game, quests, missions, vanquishing. If you can do it in Hard Mode its even better. It may take a little longer, but you have a better chance at getting some nicer drops.

Best way to make money right now, is to buy a mini zhed or shiro or visu really cheap from some person who won it in the draw .. then turn around and sell it to some sap for 850+ ectos..
You can find me and others doing this all day long in Ascalon city ID 1.
LOL...
rakein' in the ectos.. just rakeing 'em in then I can roll around in my huge stack of ectos.. Well if you wanna make profit .. nothing like making a 400 ecto profit.. 4 times in a row!
THANKS A.net! love your minis you give to Japan,. make me rich as hell.

I'm good. Have never been in need of any gold post-scaling.
Actually, I've recently been giving my heroes lots of nice gold items. Definitely have enough for runes/inscriptions/ etc.. but I tend not to buy them for heroes. I like saving my money and giving them what I find.

LOL...money? What's that? Everything I have ever done to make a few gold has been nerfed. I love the game....don't get me wrong, but whenever I find a way to get a bit of gold as a solo player...WHAM!...cracked in the skull with a big f-ing nerf bat. Matuu Keep with my cyclone axe/triple chop wa/mo...nerfed. Solo ranger runs for the IDS....nerfed. Collecting Charr hides to swap for fur squares...nerfed. Dye runs outside Ashford Abby....nerfed. Chest running in SJPalace...nerfed. I played through all three games three times...only one character has done all 3... I thought the fun of finishing the chapters was to build a little wealth in "retirement" and feed it on over to my new toons. Now, I'm doing the GW equivelant of eating my young! If I need something for an older character, it has become easier to strip it from a lesser, newer one than to make the gold the old way. I have naked mules where I once had developing characters. If a couple weren't so close to their birthdays, I'd take their stuff and delete them...a few have major Fortitude runes where they once have Sups. I can only afford to feed one set of heroes right now, so I only pay my main character. I feel like trying a new build for the others once in a while, but it takes a day or two just to gear them up...weekend over and never got to play...sucks asswater. I just want to be able to go out and make 5-15k without running the spam gauntlet...Used to be able to make that in a couple hours...now, it just takes too long. Took me a week of casual play (2-3hrs a day) just to make 10k...I've been working on finishing all the bonuses and have 95.8% of the Tyrian map cleared...I currently have 15k and one weapon set per toon...my wa/mo is currently naked, and I have one set of heroes that is 3/4 of the way to being outfitted with a full weapon set each...money? Screw the auction houses, I need a brothel...gonna have to have my female ranger lapdance for gold...
cosyfiep
12 active characters..we do quests, when they have enough plat they buy skills, if they want new armor they save up for it.....only becomes a problem when they want a full set of 15k armor....then they have to do more quests, treasure chest running etc....I rarely sell to anyone other than the merch.
currently 2 of my characters have all the armor and skills they want/need so when I play them all the cash goes into the kitty (storage) for the others to use. Those that are new are at a bigger disadvantage, but they prioritize what they need vs what they want (pretty armor vs more skills or skill caps for example). I have rarely had a time when I was not able to get them what they needed.....wants are a different story, my main mesmer had to wait for that pretty 15k kurzick party dress until she opened a few more treasures! And my male rit will get those vabbi pants when he gets his butt in gear and gets enough trade contracts for the gems! (and no, I dont have any fow armor, its the ugliest stuff I have ever seen for the most part...my mesmer wants the boots, but again want not need).
