Reward Points - A Travesty
Legendary Battousai
[basically this one post is from when the rewards actually came out, so it my little section of this is out of date, and having accumulated about 1400+ reward points, I still find this to be a POS]
I, a hero battle AT particpant have collected over 250 Tournament Reward Points, sacraficing my ladder raiting/rank, and a lot of time hoping the system would be worth the time spent. It didn't turn out that way for me though, but I have an idea which I think everyone would agree would make it a lot better.
This is the inherent flaw: It creates the item for your PvP Only Character, but it does not unlock the skin for your account.
This flaw in the system of rewards makes it almost necessary to never delete a PvP Only Character in order to keep the rewards you unlock - I would concider this very detrimental to the worth of Reward Points seeing as for most people, they reroll when a new profession is required for a build.
- The way to fix this, as most people agree, is to make skins unlockable for your account, bought with your reward points. For organization purposes, you could also have a tab system for choosing your skin where it will say "PvP Dagger [+]" and when you click on the plus, you can choose your skin, keeping things clutter free and worthwile.

I wholeheartedly agree.
There is no clear reason to me why the system wasn't designed like this from the very begining.

That would have been what I expected...
A nice 5,000 reward points would be nice compensation when they realize their mistake...

It's a complete joke to expect people who use PvP characters that they often reroll (which is really the only way to do super high end PvP and earn these points) to not delete characters.

Not for regular players....
Winterclaw
Lyra, I don't think that can be the case because don't those people also need to delete and reroll as well? Someone might keep one pvp char permantly... I know someone in my guild has gotten skill points for his PvP char so people do it. But they also still need to have some rerolled and this feature kind of kills the desire to reroll.
Skye Marin
Unless they have 10 slots reserved for PvP play, everyone who uses PvP characters needs to be able to re-roll them to play any of the 10 professions in that slot at will.
Robster Lobster
Where's the difficulty in keeping one or two PvP characters the same class? That's clearly what it was designed for, people who do not PvE (or do so rarely), and have multiple slots for PvP characters.
I'm almost certain they didn't set up the system so that PvPer's could have a horde of characters all with the nicest looking skins, but so that people could select one or two characters they play often and set them up the way they like. You only need 1 free character slot to be able to roll any PvP character you need.

"That's clearly what it was designed for" to be less than the expectations of the players? Well it sure seems that way.
No matter what it was designed for, nearly everyone will agree that my proposed change would make it better. This reminds me of the days when faction for a kill was +2, and for a victory, you got +20. For a Flawless you got 25. Through the suggestions of players, they finally realized that 20 was suffiecent for kills and 100 or 50 (no idea which) per win was better. This inspiration of the past brings me to the creation of this thread :]

I agree that your proposed change would make it easier for everyone to get pimped out toons, but that's not really the point. For many people these things are special because not many other people have them, and they are hard to unlock. What's so special about unlocking a Crystalline Sword if everyone else is running one?
Also, your analogy is irrelevant, as the increased faction gain was to ease access to PvP and emphasise skill over time spent. AT reward's are an aesthetic change only.
Yawgmoth
With the current way they got implemented, the ATS rewards could aswell not exist at all. I waited so long for them and they turned out to be complete utter crap.
It should be either unlocking for the account to be used in the creation panel, or at least make those items *customized for any pvp character on the account*

Surely to prove you are the best at PvP at your class and become a master at it by playing frequently as that class.
If you're a warrior with unlocked Crystalline and Tormented Shield skins in PvP people are going to look up to you as a strong leader/capable player.
How can they rely on you when you play ele all the time? It could be your first time playing warrior.
If PvP is about skill, which it is, then you've got to stick to a class and get the best you can be. Surely?
This is just my opinion, I am a PvE player really. I was interested yesterday to find out if you could unlock these skins on a PvE char by doing PvP. I don't know the answer but if it's 'no' I feel compelled to ask why. Surely all people playing PvP should be rewarded not just those who only play one side of the game.

If they have the same # of slots as a PVE account, then to me it seems that a PvP only account benefits from this in that it allows them to make 3/4 of their PvP-only chars to be "pimped out" and have 1 slot reserved for re-rolling.
They have zero access to PvE, so this would be the only way to make their characters develop.
In doing so, they lock those characters, unable to delete them. Just like a PvE character.
Makes perfect sense to me.
If a PvP account only has 1 slot, then Anet really didnt think this through.

For someone who likes there PvE toons as well, I used to rely on have 1-2 open pvp slots to remake as needed. Now I'm locked in and find myself forced to consider delting pve toons which I don't have any interest in doing.

I already dislike the system as it is, giving people rare skinnned weapons to use anytime they want is, imo a bad idea

Perhaps a better compromise would be a way to redeem a much HIGHER cost of points to craft a version of a rare skin for your PVE character?
It would be inscribable and customized, but usable on your PvE character?

I was and still am against the use of PvE skins for PvP characters, however if it has to happen surely once unlocked it should be unlocked for all PvP characters on the account, present and future, just like skills, runes, insignias, inscriptions and mods are.

this thread is super carebear. If they put as much time into pve as they did pvp, don't you think you'd have these weapons?
of course implementation is terrible, but that's just ANet's usual failure to do something right.

Here's a thought, keep the system the same but with one change. Once you get a tier unlocked, 20 items or whatever it is, all the items in that tier become unlocked for the account. For armor once you get every item in the set, the entire set becomes unlocked for your account.

Lets look at fictional Guild Wars fan Mr. X.
Mr. X Started playing Guild Wars during the E3 open alpha event, but was following Guild Wars ever since conception for it's unique and awesome ADVERTISED PvP.
Mr. X kept playing, on and on, and upon release, bought GW:Prophecies.
Mr. X liked the idea of PvP editions, and ended up getting Nightfall and Fctions PvP editions only, because he is a big fan of PvP. He still enjoyed PvE early on before it got stagnant though, so he has two PvE chars he occasionly uses.
Mr. X is a fanatic for PvP and plays all professions, and most game types. He's always remaking different builds, different characters, etc. He has only 2 character slots for PvP.
How does Mr. X take advantage of this absolutely stupid character-based skin purchasing sytem? answer? He has to go to the Guild Wars store and buy 8 more character slots, and make 8 more PvP characters. He also realizes, and is in despair, that his character names and appearances will never change again for the rest of his life playing guild wars, because they cannot be recreated or else they'd loose all their skins.
The way Arenanet designed this was just plain stupid. PvEs still get all the supiority they want in PvE land. In PvP they will have equal footing. And who the hell cares about prestigious items? Just because an item is rare doesn't make it awesome cool. It's all in a person's taste. There's so many different designs in this game, people will chose their own unique tastes, not the same stupid rare item that doesn't even look that cool.

I have many pve toons and use just 2 slots for pvp, rerolling chars as I need different profession.
There's no need to keep a slot busy to keep ONLY a pvp char, to avoid losing unlocked items.
Please A-Net, make the unlocks accout-wide.

Its 100 times faster to get these items through pve the system has almost no purpose after playing 2 tournaments and getting about 40 points I was happy but when i realised how dumb the system was i fealt i had wasted a bunch of time.To keep hardcore pvers from getting all pissed about pvp getting emotes+cool items give kind of a big deal some emote too.

I'm a dedicated PvE-er with no interest in PvP, but if OP's description is right (and given the amount of agreement in here, I'd say it is), I can still see how broken the system is. Just because it doesn't apply to me doesn't mean it's okay.

If you are that much of a care bear then just make yourself a PvE character, if you have a PvP only account then don't delete your character. You can't be a carebear and a professional PvP-er at the same time. They might as well make all item-customization account-based then, if you can instantly get any rare skin with each new PvP character you reroll then why should players have to labor for each of their characters at all? Or better yet, why not just have everything unlocked at the very beginning? Any rare skins should remain what they are, rare.

I'm an active player of BOTH areas of this game and the current system, as it is, almost defeats the purpose of a PvP character. The entire point of a PvP character is that they can be rerolled, and removing that ability makes the reward pointless in its current state.

my question is how do you upgrade the nicer skinned armour with runes etc?
i mean can you just re-roll the armour mods onto it? on the J menu thing you have to select a piece of armour to mod, these new skins won't be on there.
so um yea.. how do u mod the new armours?

Yeah, of course this should be implemented. The biggest question is if Anet ever cares enough about PvP :P

To answer your question about armor FireFox, since I'm pretty sure NO PvP player has yet to unlock a single piece of 15k armor (it sounds ridiculous to get), no body knows.
