Nah. That's the wong reason for buying it. Buy it because YOU like it. So many people have FoW armor, dyed black, that it becomes repetitive. The honest truth that most people won't admit... and I'll use Grotto as an example- In Grotto, when it's fairly crowded, the best looking set of armor is NEVER FoW armor. If you want people ot highfive you on your armor, forget FoW and do something original. The only exception to this is this one male monk I've seen with the most awesome blue color ever on his FoW.

Now the flip side? If you like FoW, then to you it will always be the best, and who are you trying to please anyway? If the answer isn't yourself, just save the money and time.

its simply another armor for me now that usually is worn by farmers or people who paly for hours on end and horde money. Most casual palyers don't even care about Obsidian armors. Hell i think "Wow what a dumb guy/gal to waste so much money and amterial on ugly armor." b/c seriosuly i think most Obsidian armor is ugly.

A lot of people seem to think FoW armor is a waste of money. Probably true, but when you have acquired max armor and weapons what is there to spend gold on apart from cap signets? Expensive weapons that don't offer any factual benefit and expensive armor sets that don't offer any factual benefit. Obsidian armor buyers simply chose the latter.

Doesnt matter to me, its their time and money. But if people who go through the trouble to get it expect to be seen as superior players, they are going down the wrong road.

I think this warrior loves his FoW too much, considering he made himself a set for the real world.

I have fow armour on my mesmer just cos its cute, but I don't respect anyone more for having fow armour on their chars nor would I'd expect more respect myself for having it.

I wouldn't look at someone with 1k sunspear and then at someone with fow and say 'Yeah, that person If obviously the better player' cos thats definitely not always the case.

I only think "Who would pay for that ugly set of armor?" but i also actually think LESS of that person. Yes, less. Because all it tells me is that they worked their asses off farming (Wich isnt hard, just boring) or that they have e-bayed. For sompthing thats butt ugly to. I dont think such a person would be skilled nor intelligent, no more then youre average player anyway. So no i dont respect someone with FoW.

I am currently working towards obtaining 2 more sets of FoW, 1 for mesmer 1 for necro. I don't do it as a status symbol tho, I do it because I like the looks of it better then any of the other sets. I must say tho originally my monks set was died black but red/black dye combo is so much better!

As for the respect issue, nothing says anything to me but the players skill and attitude. That is what causes me to respect someone.

The either farmed their asses off, or ebayed?

Is it not possibly they saved up, like im doing right now! Why does everything always come back to assuming anyone with something expensive ebayed it?

There is such a bad stigma around anyone who owns expensive items in this game. Alot of people like myself, save up for weeks or months to buy the items we have.

Its not on to look at someone in FOW armor and automatically assume they ebayed it! I find that kind of attitude a bit arrogant!

i do say "nice armor", i think its important. i picked out my armor from way back in the days, because i thought it looked nice, and still now i get people saying "nice armor".

and its really a simple look, star tats chest and armos, fow pants and sandles. the thing is its just not all black. i like to see armors in vibrent colors, like powers warrior for example, ancient armorset with redish-pink dye.

to buy all fow or all black just says how unorginal you are.

I didn't buy mine for status. I've gotten a few compliments on my armor looking nice, because you don't often see a mix like mine. I bought mine because it's the best-looking monk stuff out. 15K Judge's armor is a close second. I'm almost ready to go buy the FOW pants and gloves, and only a few hours of farming actually went into earning the money for it. The rest of it was by selling the random drops I got, and by power trading. Spiked eggnog made me over a million gold on its own.

I like most 15k armor better. FoW imo does give a little status, but nothing more than a little. If you want status, go for the harder titles. I don't mean Kind of a big deal, but the legendary stuff.

I originally bought by fissure armor for my ele cos it was different and you didnt see many people in it. Now I feel its a bit common so I might get some 15k aero again.

While the Fissure armor sets may not hold all the glory they once did I like to think mines a bit unique. I bought it for my monk prior to the default color change and never dyed it. I've never met another monk with the basic tan armor. It may not be a bright flashy color or anything special to others but to know that unless done so prior to that update no one can copy and its sorta unique in that way. Makes it a little bit more special to me. I commend those that do get theirs honestly and work hard for it, but sadly it doesnt really hold much meaning in the community except to be scrutinized against it seems now.

People who think about everyone ebaying it just are not pro enough to make good money. It took me 2 days of trading to make 300k...you know..not even playing or farming or ebaying...

so if you want to buy FoW..forget what others are saying, I bet those who dont care honestly dont have much time for it..fair enough and those who think its ugly..thats a point of view, mabe from other person's point of view, what you are wearing is ugly and those who just bitch are jealous...so for whatever reason you wear FoW..FoW is FoW and forever it will have label of being the hardest armor set to get..yea maybe its not as hard now but it still is the most exp set...you spent so much money on it..you got the balls, screw the rest.

Enjoy the game you paid for yourself, not for someone you will never see.

I debated buying a fissure set at first as well. In the end I decided to go for it for a few reasons.

Looks - The set I'm going after (the male mesmer) looks pretty good in my opinion.

Rarity - In the nearly two years I have been playing the game, I can only recall seeing male mesmers in fissure armor maybe three or four times.

Challenge - I have run out of goals in game that I actually care about accomplishing. As a result, I'm going after the one thing that held interest for me that I thought at one point was nearly impossible.

Inheritance - Since I strongly doubt that we will be able to transfer our funds or anything non-customized to GW2 through the Hall of Monuments (because of the economy rape that would quickly ensue) I figure that I might as well blow all my cash on stuff I can keep and pass on before the next game comes around.

If any of these reasons work for you, use them. I say that you shouldn't give two craps about what other people think and do it because you want to. If you don't think it's worth it, then there's no point in doing it. If you are still interested in getting the set, then do it for yourself and no one else.

What are you saying here is that you don't respect those that do have FoW or do repect them either or either?

Back in the day---- There were no titles to pursue, except the HA emote.

15K armour was the best you could get. Weapons were about the only staus item there were and the ultimate was FoW armour. It took months to acquire.

I have one set for my female necro and I love it. Never dyed it, it looks cool as can be with her short bob of red hair. Even bought a second set of boots for the bloodstained variety before you could put inscriptions on it. I farmed and sold stuff to get it and made countless trips into FoW and UW to get the shards and ectos to buy it.

I used to get comments on it, but it is rather ordinary now, but I will never put something else on her.

Personally, I'm getting obsidian for several reasons:
1)I *think* I have enough titles to wear with the armor and not to be called an Ebayer.
2)10 months wearing 15K druids gets kinda boring...
3)I don't particularly care what other people think of it, because I'm getting this armor for myself. I see it as enough of an achievement (for me) to make it worth the time I will spend getting it.

Well, to me fissure is just another armor (and yes I have it). It isn't even that expensive any more with ecto at 5.5-6k, of course, we saw a few days of stuff like that after factions release or whenever that debacle was. Then again, I don't do much PvE any more, just PvP, so maybe it matters more there.

I buy armour because I like the look of it. For instance my mesmer has elite nobles & canthan, but also has a set that's 1.5k krytan for attire & boots and 1.5k kurzick for hose & gloves. Why? Because I like the way it looks.

For the longest time my monk had 2 sets of armour. One set is 1.5k Tyrian, the other is 1.5k Kurzick. Why? I simply didn't like any of the other sets. These sets I did like. The only other set of monk armour I liked? Obsidian, which I acquired for her a month or two ago through hard work and farming, not ebay. Did I gain some status from getting that armour? No. I just got my monk some armour that I think looks good. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and all that.

Taking a look at the rest of the sets...the only one I like is the Ranger. After I've worked on some titles for my assassin I'll probably go back to farming Underworld and get my Ranger a set. There are a couple other sets I don't mind, namely Mesmer and Necro, but, tbh, it's not worth the effort of farming. The others? Ugly. I see people wandering around in those sets and I think "waste of money", but again, to each their own. If they like it, they like it. Or at least I hope they like it. If they just bought it because it costs so much, that's really shallow.

Do I see someone in a set of Obsidian armour and think they have some sort of exalted status? No. This is a game. The only status you get from it is 'gamer geek', a title I earned a long, long time ago. We should be here for fun. If you're looking to bolster your ego from some accomplishment in a game, you should probably turn off your computer and go do something with your life.

Ecto isnt going up anymore..max 6k.

It will remain stable in 4.5-5.5k range until GWEN, willl move toward 6-6.5k then will fall back at 4.5-5.5k forever.

All I've been doing in GW the past few weeks is play HM. And strangely enough, every PUG I've been in has at least 2 monks (one being me), and the other monk almost always has FoW armor. I've been seeing alot more players wandering around with a FoW set. Still, when I see someone in FoW I'll still say to my mate "Check out this Ele/Necro/Monk/Dervish/Paragon/Assassin/Ritualist/Mesmer/Ranger with Obsidian Armor" I don't do it for Warriors because Warriors with a set of FoW has been a pretty common site for quite some time now.

So, to get to my point: "I think it still gets noticed, but has lost a lot of prestige"

After reading this thread and really thinking about what I think about FoW armor your comments pretty much sums up what I feel about it. I

really don't notice armors much anymore. There are just tooooooo many different styles for all the classes to keep track of anymore. I, like you, think about the beginning times of Guild Wars, before Factions came out.

When there were fewer armor sets around, we had to find different ways to stand out and be noticed and that was with eye-catching new dye jobs. Then prestige begin to set in with those that could afford to buy the 15K sets at the Grotto and the Citadel. At that time FoW was considered the pinnacle of prestige and really standing out from the crowd. If you could afford 15k you were pretty well off and diferent from most, but man o man, if you had FoW you were the bomb.

IMO a big mistake was made by Anet in regards to Prestigious Armors and it is this: The materials needed to craft them should NOT be able to be purchased at a Rare Materials Merchant

We should not be able to run up to a merchant and buy all the ectos/rubies/sapphires needed to craft a complete set of prestigious armor. I believe that they should only be able to be purchased or traded player-to-player. This would mean that that there would be a tremendous drop in the number of players who have them. People would have to rely on farming them themselves or buying them from those who do farm. Then the insane people who would buy enough of the rare material to craft the armor truly would be different and stand out from the crowd.

In summary I think there are just too many armor skins available in the game and every player (with some effort) can attain them. No one seems to "stand out in the crowd" anymore. The pride you feel in what you have on your character really comes down to personal preference, not what you think others will think of what you have on them.

just my opinion, i could be wrong

I only bought FoW helm/armor for my rit, because it is unlike any other rit armors and the look is great. It is pretty noticeable to others that it's a fow, unlike for some other prof. Fow definitely isnt the best looking set for all professions though.

FoW armors are too easy to get if you ask me... I bought 2 sets in 5-6 months and I started the game over from scratch. People who wear FoW don't stand out to me anymore, compared to when I had 15k armor. It is no longer elite to me... especially with all ebayers going around. I'm tired of being called an ebayer for wearing my armor so might as well wear 15k... Anyways, the point of my post is that I no longer think FoW armor is something special or elite.
