Auto-Targeting, Thoughts...
zara
so auto targeting is fail - why did anet waste resources on this junk instead of balancing the game...
its really bad when playing a caster such as a mes and you end up shaming a warrior...

I am with the crowd that wants a toggle for this new targeting system. I can see where some people (especially newer players) might like it, but personally I find it terrible.
Like others have said, using the wrong skill on the wrong monster because the previous one died is really annoying. In a way the new targeting system is MORE work because you have to play closer attention to what you are doing to make sure and not target the wrong monster/item.
Anet.. if you want to implement major changes to the game, go for it, but allow people to turn it off that are used to the old system.

sometimes its ok, most of the time its a royal pain in the backside....(I really didnt want to pick up that iboga blossom I dont have any more space for it---now I have to open my inventory and drop it yet again.)
Saw no need for its implementation while so many other things really need fixing.

I can't believe anyone would add things like this without a toggle.
Now can we pretty please get one of those little summaries to include a suggestion to toggle the unanimously hated first-person mouse wheel zoom delay discussed here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10161652
Or, for the love of God, just get rid of it altogether. NOBODY likes it.
Dragonious
I find it quite useful for Searing Flames-way. I like the function. :-)
Omega X
I personally like the addition.
Removing it altogether is a waste of time and energy. Just add a toggle for the complaints and get it over with.

Blah auto targeting blows, I waste skills on the wrong things pretty often. If I wanna use signet of lost souls on someone and that someone dies in the process, I waste my signet at someone who is at 100% health instead.
Elementer Masta
I don't really care much for this update. The targeting system was fine before. Tab ftw? Yes, I thought so.
Iuris
I'll just say that the auto targetting is nice for me. It prevents wasting time in auto-retargetting more often than it wastes skills on wrong targets. In my case, at least.
Thank you, Anet.

here's how great this new feature is:
doing HM Sanctum Cay. Nasty pack of undead chasing after the squishies. Someone kills one. My auto-target decides I need to pick up something that's not even assigned to me, so it breaks off my attack to do that.
whaaaaaaaaaaaaa??/w34345
edit: reading back a few pages, I just shake my head and wonder, what the hell is going on at anet? There is SUCH a disconnect between the players and the devs, with CR not even coming close to bridging the two. Why do we have this? Who thought this was a good idea? Why do we get poorly realized features like this together with the SS skill debacle? Who's running this show? Where's QA?

Auto targetting:
This is going to be bot heaven.
Anet is going to drive away all human players before GW2 comes out.
Leaving only bots before they close the servers.
What are skills for ? you want to use a specific skill on a specific target, if target is changed automaticly, and you still want to use the same skill, there is no meaning to the skill at all.
Please remove this ASAP

We, of course, are the guinea pigs...

You should be able to disable it it causes some inconvenience as spells targetted to destroy enchants are now wasted on a autoselected guy that doesn't possibly even have enchants. With some skills this does not matter, but there are skill (with high recharge) that you do not want to waste on random targets.
(removed some mistakes, and I'm sorry if it can be disabled in options, didn't see it yet)

Diddy bow
took some getting use to, stilll occiasonly waste a dual attack .
although looks nice if your a bot eh?
Well somtimes its annoying and there is no use for it in pvp, fells like a-net basicly said "ok, you need to grind a bit now but we made it a tad more brainless for you!!".Toggle would be nice .
look at this change... we are teh lab rats XD

I'm starting to get the hang of it, but it would be nice if you could override it by hitting c (thus setting up a default target order that the auto-target system would then follow, rather than always selecting the target in front of me). That way when I know which targets are where in my target list, the auto target system wouldn't screw up my order for me.
So:
- enter combat with free-floating target. can be useful and even fun in some situations
- deciding I need to 'organize' combat a little more, I hit "c". now I have a fixed list that I either have to tab through normally, or at least the auto-target system cycles through that list in order as targets go down instead of hopping around randomly. (come to think of it, I'm not clear on how this is working now. guess I should mess with it some more)
Unconditional love for not having to target NPCs though. Much appreciated.

Auto-targeting sucks. I'm a ranger that uses needling shot a lot, and it pisses me off constantly when my skill is disabled because my current target gets killed by someone else mid-needle and I end up hitting some random thing with >50% health.
Anet - please slap some life into your QA department.

COMPLETE CRAP. The cancel target button is FUGLY. If I'm doing an assassin combo, and the target dies before Twisting Fangs, I waste my Twisting Fangs on another target. I look like a total idiot, and it's not even my fault! GET RID OF IT.
Lorden
should be able to turn it off, and that dam [X] button for targets too, looks liek deep wound sometimes
but it does make life heavan for warriors and paragons...just not for other caster class's
C + Tab + Space bar = FTW
tho, i do desire a ez'r/cheaper way to shuffle thro targets, or even shuffle thro party targets (but thats kinda cheating no?)

The Hand Of Death
It screws me up a lot, like in a spike and the target dies between spells, the second spell I cast is wasted on another target. The energy would have been wasted anyway but the recharge is what I try to avoid.
UnknownGuest01
I never had any problems with the auto-targeting it become useful to me in open spaces when I'm attacking big number of mobs with my warrior, and the cancel button I didn't notice it.
Voltar
honestly, i found the tab-spaecbar aspect of this game a little confusing. now i am free to focus solely on spacebar. well, maybe not but when i'm playing recklessly or the target gets spiked down quicker than i'd anticipated, i tend to burn my needling on the next target. i'd already rebound "target closest item" to "x" anyway so the item thing was covered...when i go to talk to an npc, i l-alt and click on their name to run across town long before i'm in range of them.
the net result was a few burned needling shots, mid-battle looting and frequent-end-combat-discussions with togo. alternately if you play like the auto-targetting doesn't exist, it pretty much plays the same. a "lazy mode" option to toggle it wouldn't hurt. if only they could find a way to auto-toggle it so you wouldn't have to click that option yourself...

In GvG you can't "save the enemy flag" anymore. If you kill an enemy flag carrier, the autotarget gloms on to it and returns it for you. Way to remove strategy from the game Anet.

I got bitched at in a GvG today and I was so confused for a few seconds:
him: "leave flag please"
me: "okie dokie, killing this archer..errr... nm, he's allready dead"
him: "WTF!! I TOLD U NOT TO PICK UP THE FLAG"
me: "whoa.. huh? i didn't.... click..... wt.....f..."
Anyways. That makes sense to me now at least.
And I keep blowing my mighty blows on completely random targets. For the longest time today, I was completley baffled, because my char kept randomly running in different directions on spikes and it took me a while to figure out why.
We had a couple shames put on non monks after the auto target takes over, a lot of blown shatters, and after every spike I end up throwing any adrenaline into a completely random target and having to keep "re steering" my char.
Its absolutely retarded. Please take it out or give a toggle.
IMMORTAlMITCH
Get rid of this shit in PvP, or at the very least add a toggle option..
Danax
Broad Head Arrow on Afflicted Warrior FTW!
Arduin
This feature gets extremely annoying in PvP. Because of the autotargeting, I've been trying to interrupt some Bone Minions numerous times after their MM died... Now my Concussion Shot is wasted, 25 energy is wasted, and I'm fed up because I can't interrupt that Meteor Shower from the enemy Elementalist because my skills are still recharging...
ArenaNet (0) - Randomly Implemented Feature Which No-one Asked For (1)
Changes like this make me wonder what ANet is planning for GW's feature. So please enable us to switch this off.
Or... I could just adapt to these changes, like I've been doing for the past 2 years...

meh at first i thought ah this is cool no delay between swings when my target dies.. after playing for a bit it becomes a prob, im one of those players that instantly switches target after mine dies now sometimes its one past where i want to be and ive not seen who ive cycled through. Purge signet wasted because the target dies, skills for specific foes wasted on the opposite char type obv these issues have all been mentioned. let us toggle instead of forcing a play-style on us
/signed toggle ftw
/signed toggle ftw
InfernalSuffering
As a midline caster for gvg/pvp this really messes you up and the team up. Would like to see an example of how badly is messes up monks though. I bet its more.
Alas Poor Yorick
Also lousy for assassins when you have a strike that must follow an off hand hit (moebius strike for example) You just made it through the 3 hits needed to activate moebius and then target dies while using moebius.
Auto targeting switches to next enemy in line of sight - which might be clear across the room. But because you don't have the lead attacks on that target, you get a miss and loss of energy - plus your toon runs right into a groups of mobs where you don't want him to be!
Please give us some way to turn this off!
