The spamming has receded

It is truly amazing to go in to a major trade hub in all the campaigns to see no trade spam in the local channel. People are even commenting about how great it is that is finally spam-free. A-Net's tactics have finally worked and I'm very happy about that. Who knows, maybe next they'll allow more characters in the party search function? (kidding)
In any case, thanks A-Net!

But for now...

Yay ANet.

Checked LA earlier and it was still the same though many people were quickly warned about the new rule and people started using trade chat only. We really need atleast ten new characters in party search..
manitoba1073
Good now if tey deal with all types of spam too. And they need to start banning people who blind invite themselves, as that is also against the EULA,escpecial since that is nothing more than harrasment when you are not even looking for group.

On topic: Im so thankful for this because now I can read what people are saying!

Now lets see guild recruitment spam get receded >_< it seems that posting 10 messages a second isn't good enough for some

Good idea now i can't see anything in trade chat. Thank you anet! Make party search bigger kthx.
dargon
Geez, ANet makes the traders behave themselves, and still someone has to whine about it.

Anyhow, cheers for Anet.
mr_groovy
Well it's truely amazing, but i think the Party Search is not going to be changed at all. I've suggested it in numerous riverside threads, and wanted a Oficial statement either from Gaile, Andrew or any other Anet Representative. But alas no reply what so ever. I think it's either just to hard, or they don't have the resource. /endsarcasm

YAY! TRADE SPAM IS DOWN!
BOO! PEOPLE ARGUING IS UP!
I went to LA2 this evening, and was pleasently surprised to see almost no trade spam. Then I noticed a lot of people arguing. Then I went to Kamadan1 about 20 minutes later, and I saw more people arguing (but still no trade spam ). Tis very odd... Idle fingers and all that I suppose.

ANTI SPAM regulation has been implemented firmly in the EULA, the anti trade in chat not. SPAM induces scroll speed by a factor 2-3 depending on how much they put in their lines. Maybe they should set a limit, 1 line per 20-30 seconds. such a limit is not neccesary in all chat as you want to converse there, and selling their results in ban.
Etta
Kamadan Eng Dis1 still the same, last night I logged in. Anet, send in a SWAT team now!
Mr. G
Tis wonderfull IMHO, Ive actually held conversations in places Like Kama and KC (Never really had much love for LA)
Sandly Anet cant ban the General Jerks, Like some said - arguements are up
If you want a real conversation My i suggest some of the least spammy areas like (Ironically) Kodash or Grotto

Now, drok id1 will finally be quiet. No more bots. ;p

You mean I can actually sell my items in peace without seeing my trade message instantly spammed off screen? Someone check the weather report for hell
If people want to argue, so be it. Fair enough, I can always ignore that. I can't ignore not being able to sell anything because I can't keep my sales pitch on screen long enough for anyone to see. Good job Anet. And I wouldn't mind seeing the trade chat be throttled a bit. One message every 20 seconds has the same effect as spamming it 3 times as long as everyone is limited to that one message. This is truly nice for those of us who always tried to sell their things honorably and didn't sink to the level of lame spammers.

I saw some trade spamming in local chat in LA eng district 1 when I was on last night. But not as much as there used to be. Anywhere else I went to was pratically free of trade spam.

Yep.
Bring on the "Let's try and find loopholes to work around it" group
"ALL chat means ALL KINDS OF CHAT damn it!! Including trading!!!!"

Why do I get the feeling the people who bitched about trade in Local Chat don't even chat in local?
I know I know "Well I use Local Chat ....like once a week to talk to people, but I do most of my chat with my guildies/alliance ...But it's nice to see local chat spam gone ..."
I just have that eerie feeling that's true.
Maybe I'm just imagining that everyone is complaining about trade in local chat because a lot of other people are.
Strength in numbers, eh?

Let them whine. Their arguments are paper thin and I think any reasonable people will know that. This is the way it was supposed to be, otherwise there wouldn't be a separate trade channel. As much crying as the spammers do, this was the right thing to do and they won't be able to change that
I look forward to having actual conversations on a regular basis. Go cry in a corner, spammers.

Meh. I'm expecting this to work for the first few weeks. Sooner or later they'll get a little bored with it and Local will return to what it once was...
It will be funny to see statistics on how many were banned from Kamadan and ToA though

aha another thread about the demise of spam! Woot
Sorry to those have read my post already elsewhere, but im so happy and excited that i want to repost it here too :P
*punches fist in the air and does a jig* Arighty!
THANKS ANet!
See...they do listen to us.. we asked for Anet to add a note about the crackdown on spam, to inform more people, in the other thread.. and they did it.. remember that guys
Being sensible and polite with solid reasonings when we present a request/solution to Anet...goes a long way to being listened to.
Once again, nice work to all ANet staffers who take the time and effort to read our forums, we appreciate it!
edit - lol... Evilsod...Evilsod... i can always rely on you to be negative even in the face of the most positive thing we have seen for a while!

If you make people retype the message each time it might cut down on a good part of the spam. As it is now it is too easy to spam.
Big_Iron
I was in Droks American D1 yeserday and still saw loads of spam in All Chat. When I warned people that spamming could result in a ban, I was quickly corrected by someone saying that the "warning" only mentions a "mark" on your account. The spam continued. I haven't looked to see what it's like today.
Patrick Smit
Yes and after u get flagged, u get mail and hopefully banned, easy stuff.
lyra_song
We'll see how effective this change is in the next few weeks.
heres to hoping.

It's good that people can chat in local now (though there still is some spam at least you can follow conversations). Now if only the people chatting in local weren't immature idiots trying to annoy everyone with how stupid they can be. At least, that's all I've seen when I turn local on. So local's staying off for me.

Sometimes it seems that Anet is listening so much to its GW community that they created great expectations, such that a lot of people often complains of not being listened to!
Let's celebrate, spammers must be sad!

Kudos to Anet.
I've basically quit Gw at this point due to general dissastisfaction with teh direction that the game is headed in its updates... but I would have loved to have played ina game with out spam.
I can say today that Anet's handling of spam will be a primary factor on wheter I buy any products from them again. In game mods with the ability to ban spammers is what the game needed from the start but anet never did this for reasons that boil down to "we are too cheap, and since you also are too cheap [no monthly fees] you should accept that."
Does the spam ban continue to work? (the move of "wtb" to trade channel stopped spam for a day too) Are the banners human or bots? Is all spam banned (lfg spam seems necessary for the game, guild recruitment spam seems important to have too), or is trade spam the only spamm banned? I'd like to know the answers to these questions in the upcoming months.

A-net thank you I can finally see what people are selling.

until they disable copy/paste/uparrow in local chat the problem will persist.....cos a spammmer will still spam .....why? cos he can.
Dione Davore
The problem with spam isn't gone. It just got worse.
Kamadan, Kaineng and Lion's Arch now has a new spammer:
People who warn others about spamming in "all-chat". Flaming them and threatning they will report them as a spammer in "all-chat".
THESE are the people who ruin the game IMO!
By the way. Why are they looking for a conversation in a district that's full with traders anyway? It's not likely that there will be much conversation. Also with 140/150 traders who write in the trade-channel.
Further everybody knows by know that dis1 is a traders district and the chance of logging into dis1 isn't big when you play during the day/evening.

If people want to have conversations they should go to a quiet town or a guild hall. After all, it's a freaking online game; there should be trade spamming.
If people would stop crying about stupid things ANet could probably try fix what needs to be fixed.

there's a trade channel for trading. use it. theres a whole chat for you to trade in....what more do u want? annoy ppl who are not interested in tradin and have turned the trade chat off?
local chat is for chit chat. thats what its meant to be.
in capital cities there's a market place (trade channel) and a socializing place (squares, parks, libraries or whatever).
and NO spam has never been limited to dis1....wherever there was ppl there was spam.....and communication betwen peers has been impossible creatin a sort of single player experience where the only intercation is sellin.
perosnally what anet did is too little to late...ppl who enjoy socializing ingame have allready quit the game....but at least hopefully new potential players will not be scared away like the ones who bought nightfall and quit the game on their first enterin of kamadan.

If spammers would stop crying about stupid things and use trade chat as it was mean to be use, ANet can then move on to fix whatever else that needs to be fixed.
