Just hope that as you gain a reputation with one group, say the dwaves, and you get tired of the dwarves and go to hang out with the Norns, your dwarven reputation won't go down like it does in Factions where if you do something for the Kurzicks the Luxons will hate you until you reprove your loyalty to the Luxons at which time the Kurzicks will hate you.

Ok, so when do we get the release date?

I feel kind of selfish but would almost rather have a sept 30th release date than an august 31st. That is literally 1-2 days before I move back to school.

Of course, July 31st would be fine

All this talking about grinding reputation with diffrent factions for rewards sounds exactly how the main timesink in WoW was designed ;/ And I hoped GW will remain fun for players who don't want to devote hours upon hours on grinding ;/

Don't see much of a reason for Guild Wars to have a timesink since it's not pay-to-play, unless they're like counting participation hours or something?

Just like the first "Developer Diary" this is just another load of advertising spiel written by the devs.

(I'm still gonna buy it though)

Hopfully the skills will be more like. Left Jab, Right Jab, Reverse Punch, Uppercut, dodge down, dodge left, dodge right...stuff like that =D.

what about pvp content? looks like pvp players will have to buy it just for a few new skills and not much else just as in the past..

as for pve, i'm sure the design will be gorgeous. i just don't like the whole grinding concept. i mean it's implied that gaining favor of a race needs a lot of quest grind to get some pve only skills. with loot scale in place, it doesn't look too bright for me. imagine how much grind will be required to get new armors.

Personally I'm very excited by all this news. I'm really intrigued the timesink minigames and interesting quests. Yet, somehow we're 3 pages into this thread and there's been no "Yet another reason not to buy GWEN". I'm almost ashamed, Guru.

I do not want to start a pvp vs pve argument, but this is just true. PvP did not get much except skills, and I think this is not enough if GW is really a "PvP game", as I was told so often in the past.

I hope Polymock can blow my socks off. Like Traveller said, done right it can be a huge time sink... and entertaining too!

*fingers crossed*

Oh, if there's a title attached... don't make it prohibitively high like Faction titles...

Well you also get to dictate how those skills and even game mechanics will be changed for those pve players. So now, when you get those new skills, you can go and make a team comprising of the same classes so that more stuff wll get nerfed for us. Enjoy it.

Oh come now I fully expect to see
1) Polymock PvP
2) Fist Fight PvP arena for 1v1
3) New Guild Halls

To expect anything less is silly ANET has always introduced some new aspect for PvP even though PvE requires a greater focus and selling point for sales.

I actually thought this was funny:

Quote:
“In the Norn lands, Magni the Bison, one of the mightiest heroes in Norn history, has set up a fighting tournament that will pit you against not only some great Norn warriors, but also some of the greatest heroes (and villains) in the history of the world. If you’re good enough, you’ll get the chance to fight Magni, himself, and see if you have what it takes to defeat the unbeaten champion of the north. Who knows, you might even convince some of those you defeat to join you later on in your quests.”
You see if you go against the Lich, Shiro, and Varesh again and afterwards the possibility for them to they join you, would seem interesting. I mean it seems feasible since Abaddon no longer has any hold over them. It would be funnier if you could have one skill to summon them all. However I doubt all this.

I wounder how that fits with the title based skills and people not wanting to do the side quests.

Then again, because I'm worried about the grind on the title skills, I have decided that I won't purchase GW:EN until one of the following happens:

- ANET confirms that if a player does all non-repeatable quests in normal mode one one character, he would then have all the title based skills maxed out for that character.

Or

- Someone who started playing GW:EN on release maxes out all the GW:EN title based skills for one character. Though this option will require that I am informed of it, and that I haven't lost interest in guild wars before then.

And done wrong, it can give those players who play 24/7 a huge advantage, something that GW isn't about.

Sounds good, though I hope you can get a decent lvl for the skills just by doing quests and grabbing bounties along the way. Otherwise, there's not much point to the faction skills for me. Plenty of normal skills to use anyway.

Yeah looks pretty neat.

I'm sure there will be one set thats really cool, and EVERY warrior will get it.

Sorta like endgame Nightfall armor for warriors. It was cool until everyone had it...sorta...

Give us an example for your PVP only skills.

The reason why there are PVE only skills is that they are unbalanced in PVP. However, I don't think that skills for PVP would be unbalanced in PVE. It means PVP only skills can still be used in PVE and no any problem there. Do you get it?

Hopefully this "reputation" isn't anything like 'faction' was for Factions. I don't want to have to sacrifice my standing with one group to work on the other (ie. exactly the way faction in Factions was designed). If that's the case, I seriously will think about passing on this. The whole 'faction' part of Factions is what turned me off originally (although with Priest Blessings giving faction these days it's not such a big deal as it used to be - the faction adds up quickly now). I don't mind having to build up reputation with one group so long as my efforts to do it are independent of my efforts with the other groups.

Game sounds good, assuming this isn't a concern.

You totally misread my posting. I was not talking about PvP only skills, how did you even get the idea.

I just wanted to say that PvPers got nothing except Halls being changed to 6v6 and back to 8v8. In two years of GW. Not too much innovation and change. All that was done to PvP was nerfing and buffing skills

Hero Battles and Alliance Battles were the only new pvp modes that were introduced, and I think this is not enough...

When the game started there was no PvP only area. This was changed before the release of Factions with the Zaishen islands. In addition to this, the release of Factions brought Alliance Battles, which most hardcore PvP'ers didn't even really consider a challenge, or worth working at. Keep in mind also that Hero's Ascent also moved, as well as RA, and TA...and those two Zaishen missions nobody cares about.

And PvP'ers get tournaments, and of course the skill changes that are almost always concerning PvP, and not PvE. So...think of Guild Wars PvP like Starcraft. It never radically changes...but its considered a sport in Korean.

At this point in Guild Wars...what we see is really what we get, and will ever get.

silly all i'm saying is that pvp'ers don't get much. when they changed the pvp arenas on an island, that didn't do anything..
keep in mind that the changes to heroes ascent are a major source of complaint. ppl are not happy with it.
and about atms, well it's not as great as u think. a lot of times we end up waiting 20 mins for game just to face a team that forfeits. it's not cool, you don't even get to play much of it.
you should realise that most of the changes done to pvp made the experience worse. i guess the only things that did improve since the release is hero battles.
and it seems like we're not getting anything else. in other words, pvp in gw is stale or frustrating depending in which arena u play.

i'm waiting for the release of new MMOs, that should make anet stop doing things that ppl complain about (loot scale in pve, kill count in ha and other stupid changes). i think anet lacks competition at this point and things should get better when 3 other games get released at around same time
