Let's hope the Quarry gets popular, and cool beans on the attempted leech nerfing. We'll see how it plays out.

Lol, i was using Necrosis earlier, accidently clicked onto an ally first. There are 5 targets around us. It picked the ONLY 1 that wasn't Hexed or Conditioned. Its such a pathetic system.

nice update, this ab thing is intresting, i hope it's not the final version

ArenaNet, as said, failed miserably at making a counter to leechers, since they don't care about how great the rewards are.
The updated faction won't do anything; FFF is still more efficient, and the grind for the Kurzick/Luxon skills is still way too much. But that's an issue for aother thread...
But why would ArenaNet tamper with Fort Aspenwood faction when it is so horrendously bugged, imbalanced, and easy to exploit?
Atleast ArenaNet appears to be listening to the community, though...

Sorry ANET this is a sad excuse for helping with gaining faction TITLES FOR SKILLS. This still does not account for the total faction people have been gaining for the last year that should be counted towards PvE skills.
Everybody please press "H" In game and tell us how much Faction did you gain "WASTE" over the last year that does not count towards an Allegiance rank Title.
1,234,400 Faction earned and not counted towards a town gone to waste.
SORRY ANET THIS DOES NOT "FIX" THE ISSUE.
I play AB and Aspenwood for fun, profit is minimal, and turning in faction for town ownership is stupid, always was and always will be.

Everytime I see that there is a new update I try to get the most out of the builds that are still viable, since it may be totally useless when next I log on.
This update does nothing to deter leechers, for the people who are praising Anet for listening to our concerns this week. What it will do, as it's been stated, is increase wait times for teams with the map in their favor because if the map is not in your favor, it's even less worthwhile to play with the decreased rewards. It will take leechers a little more time to gain faction (unless of course, they just switch to whichever side has map favor), but it doesn't deter them.

I don't AB because I hate standing around for hours lfg. But I kinda like the FA and JQ changes. Thanks Anet. It won't solve the leecher problem but the extra bonus for winning is nice. I'm sorry if I sound sarcastic. I'm actualy not trying to be. It's just the simple truth. The only way I see that can solve leeching is basicaly to render it useless. Reporting can lead to bad things, especialy against players that take this game way to seriously. Adjusting the rules in the game itself is the key here in my opinion. Anyway good update. I was glad not to see any skill nerfs....
Servant of Kali
As far as FA goes, i like the update. More points for winning is cool.
However, to be honest, it does not stop leechers. They get 100-160 points for winning, which isnt much, but the fact is that they dont waste their time at all, so even 160 is better than nothing. Let's say you're browsing websites, reading forums, chatting on MSN... all it takes is 1 mouse click for Enter Mission to earn 100+ Faction. And then you can go back to chats and browsing. It still pays off.
I don't know.. im sure this will discourage _some_ leechers, but how many i've no idea.

I think the update is a step in the right direction. At least we get more faction now for a win, nothing to complain about there. Sure it still takes a long time to get higher kurzick/luxon titles, but the skills are still usable even at low ranks, although I was hoping for a few of the pve skills to be buffed.

In terms of Aspenwood, I feel any update is good. It shows the problems are been considered. I dont know whether this will make any difference to Leechers but at least im getting an extra 150 faction when I win.
I do feel sometimes you guys are a bit harsh towards the guys at Arena Net, you know they do these updates for free.

MMmmm sometimes we forget it was a 1 time payment thing for each chapter... however the idea that a little more thought in an update would be nice. Some of these solutions to things seem just quickly meshed together, such as the first Soul Reaping change...I like the 2nd one better however.

zomg they nerfed losing! well, it's an interesting idea and i'd like to see how it plays out. i'm just hoping there's no unintended affect (like people not playing when in the other team's territory because they're more likely to lose). that already kinda happens and it's a bummer for those of us who play ab and aspenwood (and jade quarry...once).
i like the idea but i'm not sure how effective it will be. those people that "leech" probably aren't that concerned with the fact that the time they're not spending at the computer isn't moving as efficiently.
hopefully this is a big enough disincentive to leeching without adding too much insult to injury for the other people on their team who are also being penalized (unless i misunderstood the update notes)
good thing i play those more for fun and less for faction.
also i think some "leechers" are actually "saboteours" but they mostly just straightup leave.

Well, I see only one thing people haven't commented on:
I don't see this doing anything.
As for the auto-target option, unless some strange bug creeps in, I'm turning off auto target and leaving it off.

Hmm, why punish the whole side when only idle leechers should be targetted?
I'm pretty sure ANET can come up with "activity-scaling" that measures what portion of the time the user is idle, then scale the reward points based on activity. With a leecher being 95%+ idle, he'd receive only 5% of the faction points the rest of the team is awarded.
If loot scaling can be implemented based on party size, then there's no reason why the same principle can't be used for AB-activity-time. Activity can be detected/measured based on movement, frequency of skills used, etc...

The main downside I can see with this is leavers. People are going to realize that when the score is off-balance and they're on the losing end, they will start dropping like flies so they can re-enter and hope for a winning combination.
RE: Random Arenas
RE: Random Arenas
Servant of Kali
Fort Aspenwood needs the following:
1) Luxon Warriors AI reverted back, or improved. Current one is a disaster
2) More Faction to Kurzicks when they win. Luxons win quite often in 5 or 10min. Kurzicks win in 20min or nothing at all. You do the math.
3) Refined amber needs to give slightly bigger boost. Right now overtaking refined mine is not a valid strategy, unless Luxons ragequitted and there's nothing to do.
As for leechers and leavers, with the newest update this seems to be the trend:
If Kurzick side has a bonder, Luxons start leaving sooner and in more massive numbers. The thing is, with a bonder on Kurzick side, the game either prolongs a lot, or there's a much higher chance to lose. In other words, if Kurzicks have a bonder, it's more beneficial to quit the game and start new, and win new one in 5-10 min. You gain more faction that way.
(note: too early to see the effect on leechers)
Anyway, as far as im concerned the update is OK in Fort Aspenwood; im glad to get more faction for winning, i think it's fair that the team which gives effort wins more. If your ratio is 50:50, there is no reason to complain. Come on, if you lose 4/5 games, you need to rethink your strategy and skills. Whenever i play on either side i win in 90%+ games (not counting games i quit because of 2+ leechers). But when people massively leave, it's no longer fun on Kurzick side because ur wasting 10+ min of just sitting around waiting for time to run out.

FA and JQ get more faction for winning, but could just be I'm ignorant, but don't really see the change in AB. Get 250 more Kurzick, and even more Balth, when really should have increase amount of Kurzick faction gained per kill
Doesn't seem too bad all in all

Jade Quarry is a lost cause. But i guess people would only criticise them further if they didn't even try to update it. Nobody will go there, lets be honest. The only reason people have to go there is to map the area.

Re: Aspenwood, ABs.
This is one of the dumbest updates I've seen in a long time and enforces the idea that the people at Anet do not play their own game. Lowering the rewards is not going to reduce leechers (a small reward is still a reward) but is going to encourage leaving during the middle of the match. Now that the reward for a loss is meaningless (48 faction???) people will care less about it and just keep jumping games until they get on a team with the possibilty of winning. What this means for Aspenwood is that Luxon should win 85%+ of games, as Kurzick pretty much auto-lose if they don't have at least one healer and are hurt disproportionately from leechers/leavers (respawning turtles+8 warriors are better than gate guards).
What Anet should be doing is combating leechers/leavers by penalizing only that person and not that person's team. If someone leaves early from a match then make them have to wait 1 hour/5 hours/whatever until they can enter a new game. If someone's character doesn't move/cast skills for 5 consecutive minutes then they get the same penalty. Yes this may hurt people for leaving with legitimate reasons but the penalty doesn't have to be huge. If someone can't just click enter battle and then walk away every 20 minutes you'd see a lot less leechers.
Anet is willing to ban accounts for trying to trade in all chat (OH NOES!!!111) but not fixing one of the more interesting mini-games in GW. A straight fix to leechers would be much better than trying to stop them through all of these other avenues.

Some sort of action to try and remedy leeching is also a result of the community, though I fear for AB its really simply going to result now in no one playing the disadvantaged maps if even less points are earned there when you lose. I'm not sure this is the fix and has the full thoughts of consequence behind it, but suppose time will tell.

Played Quarry for the first time and got my Legendary Cartography title finally!
Nice little PvP game too.
Will definitely play there again, so long as there are people to make up the numbers.

The "leeching" related changes are not going to hurt leechers at all, but they are going to hurt real players who won't ever be bothered playing on maps that are inherently stacked against them in AB thus increasing AB wait times. Or on badly mixed random teams in FA thus increasing the entire team ragequitting well before the match is over.
Faction rewards still need to be increased big-time to bring maxing the PVE skills into the realm of being somwhat-reasonable. Hopefully the slight boost it got for winning in AB won't be the last "fix" that this issue gets either.

heh, it took them *one* full update to give us an option for auto-targeting. What do we do? We bitch and whine about the stuff we *didn't* get. Geez, guys.
Phades
Meh, auto targeting just gave me bad memories of auto reload in a different game, where there were weapons that needed to be able to switch firing modes intstead of reloading automatically constantly.
A way to cancel out of anything automatic is a given, regardless of what it is, because manual operation and play tends to be better and always scales with the player's skill and is something the game should be promoting.

Leeching has been a problem since the conception of Fort Aspenwood (1 YEAR !!!. We've told them there was a leeching problem. Gaile Grey brushed it off as nothing ( reassuring ). We bitched to them about it. 1 Year we get a tiny update that doesn't really solve the problem. It punishes everyone across the board. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
I pray that this is not their answer to the leeching problem and I am pissed about the time I have to wait until we get a real fix (if at all)
People always whine, get over it. Some of it is legitimate and some of it not so legitimate. The sad thing is that ANet is giving us more and more legitimate things to be complaining about.
