Though I'll probably be getting it via PlayNC if EBGames doesn't stock it. Actually with the state of the NZ dollar, it might be cheaper to use PlayNC anyway.

No one, anywhere, will be left out if they choose to order in this way. Details about this will be available in the not-too-distant future, and frankly, I'd hold off on preordering until I get all the details.

Hey, again some great work from you Gaile, it is appreciated .
When you say we have to pay for the event what do you mean......?
And also i can't wait for GW:EN and i'm sure to get it, however a release date would help me stop spending my money on books so i can pre-order it/buy it right away ^.^

Oh, sorry, that's what we call the in-game store, the one you can enter and make purchases in from the loading screen. (I do agree, the name is a little confusing. ) PlayNC is just as good -- I believe the only difference is that you access that from the website instead of the in-game interface.

Personally I'd prefer to be able to hold off preordering until after I've seen the preview event. But from what I've read here it looks like I'll have to pay for the pre-order to be able to take part in the preview.

Let's say it's something we've not done before, really. And let's say that there are multiple incentives to preorder, and that the preorder is a very nominal price.

I'd say, then, that you won't be sorry, and won't be worried about this whatsoever.

I'm tempted to try for a pre order if that Charr bow is in it, but ordering off the online store isn't something I'm going to do.

No offence, but given the fact that local EBGames have never had a clue about what a pre order pack for Guild Wars was, I doubt it. I'm just going to have to rely on my not-so-good luck.

All retailers EVERYWHERE made a bloody hash of the preorders/prereleases for Factions and nightfall and some retailers didn't even see a prophecies preorder in the UK (and i was working at GAMe at the time and got into the game from the managers conference BETA key give out NCSoft did)

but please, if you do something for stores, please TELL them what to do with it... then at least we just have to deal with the idiot behind the counter being an idiot instead of being an uninformed idiot

i don't know if this is the right place 2 write this but i got a little question for the hall of monuments. If i go there with my char before the release of gw2, then when gw 2 comes out, i make a char and inhirent the chars name, and then afterwards go back 2 gw on my old char, 2 get new titles for the char, will my new char be able 2 get titles for them 2 ?

No, it isn't the right place, nor is it the right time. No one knows what all we'll be able to do because GW2 release is just too far away.

I have to agree with what a few others have said.. the Nightfall pre-release was a mess. I did finally get it, and I did enjoy what was with it, but retailers didn't have a clue what to do with it. Some places were giving it away free with pre-orders, others were charging £1 or 2 for it, and Amazon.co.uk was selling it for £20, which is a little ridiculous.

I'm very disapointed to see the exact same thing happening with Eye of the North. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guild-Wars-E...3315818&sr=8-6

Please sort this out, I'm looking forward to getting it, but it seems unlikely I'll be able to if this continues with the online retailers.

Could those of you who had difficulty getting the preorder give me your location? City and State/Province or Country would be very helpful. I promise you that I share this sort of thing almost daily with Sales and Marketing.

It's an interesting situation. I keep thinking of that old saying, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." We make the package available to retailers. We allow them to set their own prices, but do provide them with a general recommendation, I think. We give them information about how the preorder or prerelease bonus pack works, too. And yet, time and again, there are glitches. Here's a story:

I went to my local (retailer) just before Factions came out. Asked, "Can you tell me about the release of Factions?"
"Factions?" he said, "What's that?"
"Guild Wars Factions," I replied. "You know the second campaign of the million-selling PC game?" (I had to work that in there. )
"Oh, right! Well, let me look it up."
As he's shuffling through his book, up walks the store manager, who says, "Oh, sorry to say, that game has been delayed, it's coming out at the end of May."

I looked at him in disbelief.
I paused.
I unfolded the lapel on my jacket, pointed to the Guild Wars logo as if it were the Superman crest and said, "Oh, sorry to say, you're very, very mistaken. I'm a member of the dev team and it's right on track for April 28th."

He didn't even have the courtesy of being embarrassed. He shrugged, said, "Oh, well, we heard somewhere that it was delayed."

And all I could do was gently assure him it was truly on track, repeat the date, and as I departed the store, wonder if I should start visiting all the retailers on the west coast for a "date-fact check."

We cannot control what retailers do, or say. We can instruct, advise, contact when we learn there are problems and try to make improvements, and even recognize and reward exceptional service, al of which we do. But retailers are independent entities, after all. For the most part they do a good job but sometimes there are problems. To increase availability, to make our game and the pre-release bonus pack truly globally available on the very day of release, we're offering both the preorder and the game in the in-game and PlayNC store. I'd say that's a very good thing--another option is always a good thing. I encourage you to make the best decision for your particular situation, but I'm glad there are more choices for you this time.

Factions pre-order: Hollywood, Florida - finally found it on sale rack at K-Mart after release of game. Not where I usually would shop for a game.

Nightfall pre-order: Hollywood, Florida - Gamestop on Sheridan St. had no idea what I was talking about. A week later when I called to cancel the order for the game (was going to buy it on-line with pre-order bonus even though it might arrive late) the Gamestop had finally been informed by their corporate of the pre-order bonus.
------------

I think the problem is the chain stores corporate information flow and, to them, the relative lack of importance. They know everything about the game machine market, old and new, but very poor info on PC games.
_____________

And, if the whole bonus/game package is available at in-game store, that is where I will purchase it.

Well I am happy to say there here in New Jersey/Hudson County I have no problems with the pre-orders whatsoever. We have a 2 Gamestops here and they are pretty good actually. I have had GW:EN pre-ordered since 4/22 and they charged me $41.39 tax included. So now i am impatiently waiting for the release

I had problems with the pre-order with Factions. I was pretty mad that I missed out on the head start because of the stores screwup, plus didn't get my pre-order pack. I posted in the thread about what we would like to see in the online store about selling the pre-order packs so those of use that wanted it could still get it. That being said, I'm very happy that you're going to be offering GW:EN and its pre-order in the online store now.

For those who had trouble with their orders in the past, for those who want to be sure to have the access keys in time, and for those for whom getting a boxed product is nigh on impossible--for instance they live in an area or even a country where the preorder isn't stocked--the online store is the way to go.

Looks like I have to buy it again from Fry’s electronics for $10 (U.S.). The first time EB games got in the Faction one, they got it way ahead of schedule. However the Nightfall one never came in and you could only get it through their online store. The retailers have started becoming evil over them; so they can hold out these bonus packs for a price, or sometimes not give them out at all (even though you bought the game ahead of time for it).

The DVD really doesn't matter at all because you can even download the client from the Internet. It is the key that is worth the money. The DVD is just a convenient way to install the new addition for people with bad internet. At least thats the way I see it.

I have a question that may seem silly:

When you order from the online store, the store says it adds the key directly to the account. What happens if you have more than one account? Can you order more than one set of pre-order and game keys with only one GW account name? Are you provided with the keys separately to add to your second account or do you have to order the sets separately and create a second PlayNc account for your 2nd account?

Sorry if this may seem like a stupid question, but if I can order the pre-order and the game off the online store for my son and myself, I'd much rather do it this way. As long as both keys are not added to just one account that is. That is the part that concerns me, I wouldn't want both keys to be added to the same account as that would be a waste of money.

Remember, when you purchase things from the in-game store, you access it from the login screen. Ie, you have already logged in to the account that you wish to add whatever it is you're buying to. I'd think you can purchase yours, have your son log on, and purchase his from his login screen.

(I can only speak for my experiences purchasing Game of the Year pack and several character slots via login screen--I've never bought a whole game this way...)

Gaile I have a question, if we want to buy the pre-order thing from the in-game store do we have to wait until the day its released then buy it or can we get the option of buying it early and having it equipped on the account then on the day the pre-order event can the key get activated?

No where in the UK seems to know anything about the pre-order pack, except for Amazon, who are charging a ridiculous amount for it. Guess I'll check out the online store.

For the record Gaile, Frys.com was excellent to order from. Not only was NF priced at $39.99 (10 bucks below retail), but it included the pre-release bonus pack (spear, scythe and extra char slot) for free. Shipping was free and the game arrived the day before launch. Did I mention no sales tax either to Florida!

Out of curiosity, I went to Circuit City on NF launch day. They didn't have the game available for purchase. However, they did have the pre-release bonus pack priced at $7.99.

I would gladly order the game from NC soft on the day of launch if there was some incentive, but sadly there isn't. You guys charge full retail price and all you get is the activation code. No bright shiny box with nice pictures on it. No kewl poster and other assorted art work and no manual.

It's a bit off-topic, but I'd just like to agree that all the printed material you get with a boxed copy of any GW campaign (even the non-collector's editions) is really, really nice, especially in an age where most games publishers seem to regard even a basic printed manual as somewhat of an unwarranted luxury, so props to Anet for that.

This is whats confusing me:

All the sites selling it for £17.99 (released 31st August) dont mention anything about a pre-order package. I have no idea if you get a pre-order box on the 20th July with those sites or not.

GAME, Play.com etc all mention nothing about a pre-order package/box.

People seem sure they're getting the pre-order box from sites that dont even mention its existence. You can pre-order anything these days, thats not automatically the same as getting a seperate pre-order box is it?

Amazon clearly counts the pre-order package and the main game as 2 seperate products. I have no idea if you get the main game with the expensive Amazon pre-order box, but it would be outrageous if you didnt at that high price *shrug*.

So which is it, order the pre-order box seperately, order the pre-order box and get the game too when its out, or order the game and get the pre-order box?

Bleh, wish these sites had proper details so I knew what to order.
