Why do people care that I have many toons?

I don't post much but I read a great deal and have not seen this issue.
I spend a good deal of time helping, it is not selfless I like it. Anyway the past month or so in helping many different people they often friend me which is fine with me. Lately though as I have been playing all of my 11 characters for an hour or two here and there I have gotten pm's from 4 different people who added me asking how many characters I have. When I told them 3 pm'd back about how I could not be an effective GW player with so many characters to manage. Then I got the usual "noobie" because I disagree.
I explained I enjoy having more instead of switching secondaries and that 4 were over 2 years old, 3 over a year, 2 almost a year and only 2 being very new low level characters.

It does not bother me that people don't like it and I don't really care what people call me but I wonder does anyone else have this issue cause they have many characters?

Why would anyone care?

Be well and happy hunting

my friend beat all 3 campaigns with 6 of his 9 PvE characters, he rerolls his chars often because most campaigns take him 2-3 days.

No one cares cause he's just as good as the next guy.

those people that messaged you were idiots. in my opinion, you limit yourself as an effective guild wars player without a lot of characters. sure you can understand the concepts behind a profession without playing them, but you learn a lot more about the intricacies of a profession if you personally use them.

myself, i have 10 pve characters and 3 pvp characters on one account with another 37 characters on 4 or 5 more accounts. i'm currently in the process of turning one of them into a pre searing only account with 1 of each profession for pre.

i've had some people ask me why i have so many characters and its because going through the game with different professions is a different experience each time and i need the storage space. makes me a better player if i understand each profession well and can play effectively with each.

A guildie of mine has all 10 professions. He has 2 warriors and 1 of everything else. As far as i know hes finished the game on them all. And i would say hes a very effective GW player.

It is your right to play however you want.

However, I do think that playing so many characters is kind of pointless.

I have 10 PvE characters, one of each profession, and playing with all of them has taught me more about how to beat them. I think having many characters will actually make you *more* effective as a player, because you learn every trick from both sides.

I have 11 as well, and I must say it's incredibly convenient. It leaves me room for PvP characters and whatever PvE characters I want. If all of them were level 6 and not very far into the game, I might agree. If people you help are gonna be rude, just refuse help next time.

yeah, i have way more than that. makes it easier to unlock elites. it's also good for pvp so that you know the weaknesses of multiple builds on multiple professions.

i've never run into these kinds of idiots but i generally don't group with anyone but friends. at the bottom of your friends list there's a place to put in names of people to ignore. you should use that the next time you feel the need to justify yourself to anyone.

lol...

I guess I'll not mention how many I have either.

Lets just say it's enough to have one of each class multiple times. Not only that, but one of each class in pre-searing alone.

I have 10 PvE chars...

1 main with which i completed all the campaigns (ele)

1 war (completed prohecies only)

1 necro (MM but just standing there)

1 monk (farming ftw! No campaigns anyway)

1 paragon (lvl 3, mule)

1 dervish (part-way through NF, lvl 20)

1 Ritualist (lvl 5-6, noob island)

1 mesmer (still in pre)

1 assassin (off noob island but still no big deal. lvl 20 though)

1 ranger (off factions noob island. survivor 1)
_______________________

As you can see the ele is my only "complete" char. I no longer play the others much because I'm building titles on my ele for GW2. (yup, it pays thinking early)

Well it must have just been the people I ran into then. That is why I posted because no one has ever seemed to have cared before. I like the ability to be whatever I feel when playing from heavy hits from my hammer to sneaking around casting pink/purple Mez spells and all who would hurt my group.

I don't know why I felt the need to explain myself to them either. I do have so much fun playing GW and in part it is due to different characters I can play. I know that me playing all classes has meant I understand each better and am a better fighter against them now. More characters has also opened play areas I would not have played before like random arena's, HA and AB there fun because I understand the nature of different characters.

I don't mean to imply someone who plays only one that they know less just for me learning comes from doing.

Glad other people have toon a.d.d. like me

I have 2 accounts, 15 characters on my primary account, 12 characters on the other. I have at least one of every profession on each account.

Why should people care how many characters you have? really...who gives a sh*t what they think...

they're talking down to you because it makes them feel better about their own flaws...it's not because you have more characters than they do...they just find something...anything they can to bash you for...because they are insecure little pissants with pathetic lives...in short...ignore them.

You're getting called a n00b becuase you have lots of characters? Just let those idiots know that you enjoy the variety and leave it there. If the morons persist, it's time to use the good old "Ignore List."

(Kinda Ironic that it's people that needed your help are calling you a n00b, huh?)

Anyone calling you a noob because you have a lot of characters is probably just jealous because they can't get that many through the campaigns Having 2 accounts, I have a Necro and Ranger on each and one of each of the other professions split between both. As previously said it's great for unlocking Elites, especially when it comes to skilling up your heroes, but the main reason I have so many is to help guildies out whenever someone needs a party slot filled at the last minute. This way it's easy to switch and fill a gap with whatever is needed. Anyways, variety is the spice of life, how boring would it be to not at least try out each profession, eh? Ignore them and have fun, that's what Guild Wars is for

dont worry about it....I have 19 toons, granted 5 are mules and one is presear, but I have 13 I play regularly! I have one mesmer for each discipline, one ele for each, a female and a male rit...a bunch of monks.....I enjoy creating new ones, and have a hard time deleting a level 20 toon (never have yet, though my paragon got close).

dont worry play the game any way you wish.

Yeah, I got 10 characters. One of every class except Dervish (just deleted my very complete derv about a week ago), and two warriors (one of which is a perma-pre). I only have one who has completed all three campaigns, my first character - necro. Only one is not lvl 20, my new character - monk, who is now lvl 15.

I see nothing wrong with having multiple characters, in fact I would suggest it if you have the time. It gives you an idea of how they all work through experience instead of just reading it on forums, or encountering it in PvE or PvP. I mean sure, you may understand how a necro has to rely on corpses for not only SR, but also corpse-exploiting skills from an outside perspective. But do you really know how certain builds that use exploiting skills just don't work because of that very mechanic? You may not until you try them, and really know how the necro works inside and out.

Seems there are some strange people playing the game if they call you a noob for having too many chars, I just don`t understand the way they think.

I have 21 chars, most lvl20 and I`ve unlocked everything in PvE. Some started as mules and I got so bored I decided to play them aswell. It`s not that I need them all it`s just since minipets came out I can`t bring myself to delete any of them even if I haven`t played them for a while, most have titles so I won`t delete them as they might come in handy in GW2.

Also I have to agree with the point raised earlier that it`s easier to better understand the skills of a proffesion if you have played it, then you can counter it more easily.

Nearly forgot to mention how nice it is to use tomes on a low lvl char and see how easy the game is with a few elites at lvl2 or as soon as you can reach storage, so who`s the noob then?

The term is believed to be used again as a shortened form of cartoon, used as the character in the game is often an animated representation of themselves, or a cartoon version if you will.
Maybe if you said characters instead of "toons" I would take it seriously.

The fact is that more diverse characters usually means you are more well rounded. The exception is if you have characters but don't rotate. 9000 hours out of 13000 hours on one character is not balanced.

If anything what bothers me more is the people that have only played a melee profession because it presents a skewed perception that they only need to bring attack skills on a skillbar or devote 6 slots to defense.

It is best to have at least a front/mid/backline character...

P.S. unless you plan on making a male and female of the same profession I totally fail to see why you would need more than 11 slots (10 PvE + a pvp slot)...

I have 10 PvE chars and 1 PvP char I have beaten all 3 campaigns on all 10 chars. I actually have deleted many of them and remade cause I beat the games too fast. I consider myself to be a very good player. One reason for that is that i can play any class without just guessing what im supposed to do with it.

I can see the confusion in GW, but when you play EverQuest or WoW or some of the variants, the characters DO look a lot like cartoons - thus the creation of that slang term.

I have about 40 characters. Granted, a few don't play the game, none of them are extremely high ranked, and I'm not even close to having all characters through all three games. However, the point is, I'm no noob.

And I'm sure, neither are you.

If you have a lot of characters, rejoice! Be proud! You have a "family" of characters, and you're exploring the game in a manner that many never experience -- multiple profession combinations, many play styles, different levels of attainment, probably a unique quest experience for the majority of those characters you play. I applaud you -- it's an achievement of which you should be proud.

Someone will ask me, "Why do you have so many characters?" and I answer, "Because I love this game." It seems to me that such a response may work for you, too.

Well, it also helps that you work for Anet - are they at 10 dollars a slot

I have 11 - 1 of each professions and a pre-sear only. So no, I do not think you are strange. Heck, I wouldn't mind having another warrior simply because I prefer the female model and my current warrior is male (he looks kinda like me so I do not want rid of him either), I just do not feel it is worth the time needed to keep both of them in a position to play the game just for a more attractive skin.

Plus, the term "toons" was a fairly standard term even in the late 90's when graphical MMO's started getting their game going. Though I would have to say I have to watch myself sometimes, been in game/computing since sometime in the late 80's and find some terms I use no longer are in favor and confuse people (in fact, some older standard terms are now actively in disuse for reasons I do not know), however I thought "toons" was still a standard term in MMO's? I even see it sometimes in single player games still, though maybe they are all "old farts" like me

I agree. I've personally heard the term used since the first Everquest back in the day. Many of the newer gamers may just recently hear the term and get confused. I call my characters toons every once in a while, myself. Ah well.

Internet.

Some people are convinced that noobs are the scourge of online games, and are angered by the fact that noobs come and play *their* game - god forbid. It's important to point out at every opportunity that they are indeed noobs, and not as pro as them.

What's kinda interesting is that if all the newbies got up and left and there were just experienced/skilled players left, the type of people who throw out the term 'noob' would quickly get frustrated by the fact that they're no longer head and shoulders above other people in terms of "skilz" and "rl xp".

I've found the best cure for "proz" (that's what I call noob-callers, anyway), is to just submit and compliment them on their amazing skills, and ask them if they can teach you. If they refuse, I apologise for the misunderstanding and offer to leave. I'm back in a new shiny team, the proz are in their own little party lacking one member, and everyone's happy.

As for multiple characters. I've always believed that the best way to learn how to defeat a class is not to fight it, but to play it.
