It will be on a larger scale than the original Guild Wars PvP with large battles which could take place over a long period with people coming and going. Each battle will have a number of different objectives which can be met such as taking guard towers or defending choke points or joining a larger battle to take a castle. Battles will take place in the Mists. According to the Gamespy interview, there will be 4 factions players can belong to fighting against each other, as well as a 5th faction representing a common enemy. Whether players can switch allegiance is currently unknown, but likely.
What I've gleaned from the information Anet's given us on GW2 is that World PvP will take place in a completely separate area i.e. The Mists. Thus if you're going around questing, you will not be disturbed by the sudden appearance of twenty or so people coming to kill you and will only have to worry about the various PvE monsters they (Anet) decide to create.

I too am looking forward to GW2 but due to it's current distance away time-wise, I'm looking forward to other games with closer release dates.

An Afterlife would be a more "persistant" death penalty, I'd say.

I agree with you on this ... and not just because you're keeping the discussion to GW1<=>GW2 this time; it really would be a bad solution for a persistent GW.

• GW2's higher levels aren't confirmed to actually have more inherent power after a certain level.
• Not every conflict is survived by attacking the attacker; you don't need to be a brain surgeon to know when running away is preferable.

• It's as unavoidable as someone getting upset for losing. The only solution is to have no different professions or race differences; I'm not sure it'll make the whole more enjoyable.
• It contradicts nothing I said; you make wild claims without backing them up.

Persistancy is what makes a MMO, can't be one without having this.
• The devs have said that, next to persistance, there'll be instances in GW2 aswell; it'll not be 100% persistent. Read the articles.

As a "rookie" I was ganked while adventuring too, but dying at the hands of another player isn't that more "horrible" than dying by those of an NPC. After a short while, I learned how to avoid being ganked: when followed, I shook off stalkers; I ran from or killed "rogues" on sight; I farmed there where many players farmed at the same time, as "rogues" didn't make much of a chance there.
All by all, it never made me hate "open PvP"; it rather did add another layer of suspense.

When a poll only offers a choice between PvE-only and PvP-only, it can't get more biased. You can't conclude that people hate PvP, only by the fact that they have a preferance for PvE. It's like saying people hate the radio, because TV is their 1st choice. Simply said: that's bad math.

The last polls offered a decent amount of choices, and the result was clear: the majority prefers PvE+PvP.

Then stay out of World PvP, if you can't handle it. Why should the whole game be catered to those who can only handle 100%-predictible threats? A part of it allready will.

Oh, come on ... as if mindless mob-farming takes more brains than dealing with geopolitical feuds!
I'd like to be challenged in a ludic way, instead of having to deal with AI without personalities.

Overall, I agree that it does sound like a great game, and cannot wait for the beta testing. However...

Although it was implemented quite well in Guild Wars, I personally HATE class-based systems. I would love to see this removed for Guild Wars 2.

I agree on this - the skill system the game currently uses is easily one of my favorite aspects, if not the favorite. This should carry over into Guild Wars 2.

Although combat is a given, and more or less required for a decent game, one of the major flaws of RPG's (especially computer based), is that they focus almost solely on the combat, with a disregard for most other aspects - character development for example.

They should keep the same level of combat as the first Guild Wars, but create a far more flowing storyline, and allow for greater character customization, including both your appearance, as well as removing the "good guy only" format the game is currently in.

Don't you mean Grind Grind Grind? Guild Wars was actually pretty good with the level system - it uses it as a learning curve, and the game really doesn't even begin until you are level 20. However, the leveling system is by far the WORST aspect of most role playing games, and instead of creating a high/uncapped max level, they SHOULD be removing it entirely.

As I said, class-less systems are by far the best, but I am unsure how effectively it would work for GW2.

Only if you are looking solely at multi-player PC games. By far the best game design and system belongs to Shadowrun 4ed (tabletop, NOT the bullshit FPS).

I agree with most of your assessments - and this is a key one. You do not always have to be stronger to survive or even win a fight. I love playing stealth/assassination based characters

Not entirely true. Although I doubt such a setup would work for Guild Wars 2, Shadowrun 4ed has a great solution : ). For those who are unfamiliar with the game, each player starts with 450 build points to create their character - default race is human. Each other race is inheritly more powerful, but also costs BP to play. Example: Trolls are insanely powerful physically, but cost 40BP to play, further balanced by decreased mental abilities.

THIS is one of the major aspects of the game I am looking forward to.

On a final note - I have learned to simply ignore Zinger's posts. If you don't want to argue all day, I suggest you all do the same : )
