This is not just a issue in Europe. Here in the states since the festival weekend the lagg has been aweful and it is almost to the point I'm considering not even playing it. It seems more like everything skips though or you simply freeze up every so often while playing. It's making the game not even worth playing.

I hope they fix it soon or I'll be forced to actually find some other game to play. It's been over a week we have had this problem

Until today i thought you were all just whining about the lag i'd had which was quite bad but playable

Now 60% of the time when i leave an outpost i Error007
My character stops every 5 seconds for around 5 seconds then zooms 20meters forward into mobs, and while in mobs everyone stops fighting for a while then a flash of yellow and red numbers and i die

I had lag during the festival but this is insane lag
I really cannot play in this which is a shame but i have a holiday soon so hopes are it'll be fixed when i get back
Good Luck fixing it Anet

Wonder how long till Gaile comes on asking for people to post more tickets like it actually makes a difference...

Maybe if we send enough tickets it miraculously fixes itself? Not a chance, some info on what the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO your doing about it would be nice.

All reports have been relayed. I'm tracking network emails and will share any information that I have as soon as I have it. All of that is as I have said, repeatedly. I regret that I cannot--that we cannot--do more for you or share more information about this. We simply do not have more information to share, despite having asked for it. There is just nothing specific to say as they continue to research the issue.

It's Sunday afternoon. You're getting the communications that we can give from people (me!) tracking this situation 16 hours a day--days, nights, and weekends. EvilSod, Posting negative comments to or about me is unfair, unkind, and undeserved. Such comments have no place in this thread, on this forum, or in any reasonable discussion.

It's been really bad for me today (in the US)... and it's very difficult to play. Furthermore, for the first time since I first started playing, I've been getting out-of-memory error messages followed by crashes this weekend. Wouldn't that mean the cause is in the program?

From this POV (Finland) the lag on Euro districts seems to be back, making it impossible to use them (total freeze, err7's). Int works like charm, though, once you use the GH trick to change the region

3000-4000 ms spikes today. That's just nasty. I did do a trace route, and I can confirm this is on Anet's side.

Oh well. I'll go watch a movie or two.

I'm playing on American servers and my average ping is 650. This is really bad not as bad as europeans, but it's making being a monk very very difficult.

Well at least Gaile is keeping us in the loop as much as is possible. I mean if Anet doesn't know what the deal is and is trying to deal with it, then I doubt flaming will help em figure it out faster. Report tickets simply gives them data to work with to help solve the issue, theres no need to flame Gaile simply because of relaying information.

Also take into consideration that they have to work with teams from Europe and America, which given the different systems and ISPs to work with, complicates things. So give em some credit, they are doing all this for us and we don't have to pay them an extra dime like most MMO's with subscriptions.

For myself personally I haven't really felt the bad lag spikes as bad, but my friends have and it sucks when you are seemingly the "lucky" one and have a good connection. Yet this game isn't for soloing hard areas especially when you are planning on going into the Fissure of Woe to get Obsidian Armor. :-(

However my question is, how does a data base problem, in GERMANY, affects us here State side? Doesn't make sense to me, unless (hypothesis) as a result of the database problems in Europe, its causing the euros to jump from their europe gateway to the American one. This could theoritically cause more strain on the American servers, dealing with connections overseas, not only that, throw in all the people already on the American side and you got more lag issues. However I admit, I am no expert on networking and I am merely making theories. So don't take my word on any of that. For me, a problem is never usually caused by one factor, its usually a number of factors meshed together to create a problem.

Anyway, thank you Gaile for putting up with us and our emails and reports, please continue to update us on this situation.

I realize you intend for this thread to be for the German server only but, what ever your doing has now affected me here in Texas. This past 7 days I have had no more than usual lag problems however today I've had lag problems like never before.

I also live in the states and have been experiencing the lag since the dragon festival. I submitted a diag log and a ip traceroute thing, w/e it is, to support. I might just quit the game till GW:EN comes out. Hopefully by then the lag will be fixed.

Gaile,

We appreciate your updates. What seems to be lacking to a lot of people is a reasonable explaination as to why the lag is so bad in the United States now as well. We've gotten the explanation that there is problems in Germany, but that explanation doesn't jive with what is going on in America. Actually, thinking about it, I haven't seen anything official from ANET saying that the even acknowlege a problem in America, last I've seen is that it "mainly in Europe", which anecdotally is completely false. Out of 30 people in my guild we have 6 people on (all from America) and 3 of them are so lagged that we aren't even playing right now, just griping about not being able to play due to lag.

I know eleven people in real life here in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA who all have horrible lag. I know zero people here that are without problems.

My alliance chat is full of people commenting about the lag and almost all of us are in the USA.

A traceroute I ran shows problems on the GW side of things, somewhere in California.

Heres the thing, I don't understand why we are so concerned with the lag in Germany when it seems to be EVERYEHERE. I had major lag on the Dragon
festival weekend to the point I just gave up trying to do the missions. I lagged in town and in North Kryta. I'm still lagging in Vabby. I'm on the American server. And although I commend you for trying to make playing enjoyable with the special weekends I wonder if you are really equipped to handle the overload, when even on regular days you seem to be over extended. I love guild wars, I have 3 accounts, I don't use bots, I am probably not your target audience as I am a woman over 50, but I would be willing to support my accounts more if it would mean you could update servers to handle overload. If that means I need to buy 3 slots on 3 accounts to get the mission bonus I will. I will buy 3 GWENs if you have collectors editions I will get those. I would be extremely interested in what really caused lag. So please fix the lag everywhere not just in Germany.

I had no lag today. A friend of mine who lives 4 miles away (St. Louis) had severe lag, which he completely solved by switching to the Euro servers. We lost one of the better HA teams by switching to Euro servers, too.

Arg, it gets harder and harder to play on American servers.

I live in texas too and when I tracert the ip I am connecting to in GW it times out in LA, but of course its that data center in Germany that is affecting us according to Anet...

Some amount of information apart from "send us a support ticket" would be nice as the game is unplayable.

So I reported my -diag reports via the support link (totally user unfriendly btw) and this is the response I got:

"Additionally, usually connection issues such as this are caused by the way your network is set up. If you use a router to share a single Internet connection, try disconnecting the device and connecting your PC directly to your modem."

Clearly the problem isn't my local connection (you can see this in the -diag pathping traces), and if Anet is collecting information on this, why would I get this inane response...

Gaile, you might want to have a talk with your support staff, because something tells me this information isn't being passed up the chain if we get boilerplate support responses when we submit our tickets.

I have heard intermittent concerns about the US servers and yes, you can bet I've passed those along. Feel free to submit a ticket on this, too!

Sparks, please understand, this is not a matter of our servers. Believe me, we have plenty, and they're working great. It seems to be related to the router, and as you can imagine, there's only one of those so when it gets bad, the situation turns nasty. I don't know that for sure, but I do know for sure we have tons of servers, double-fail-safe and all, and it's not a lack of spending money to upgrade, I promise!

Well, lag for me on American districts was pretty bad last night (Sunday, 7/15). My ping responses were from about 300ms to several thousand most of the time. Some of missions I played were challenging in that it was hard to tell what was going on in a fight till it was pretty much all over.

Note that up till about two weeks ago I almost never experienced any lag at all.

Okay I can say last night the lagg was not near as bad as what it was last weekend or during the week however...... I run a small community guild of players and I have members from the State of Washington to Canada. I have two members in particular one in Texas and the other who resides in Canada who have stopped playing due to the severe lagg.

I realize that you are just the messenger Gaile but I would like to share something with you. My first online game was Diablo II a Blizzard game. That particular game eventually got to the point of where Bots and cheats ruined it and the servers were always laggy or you were disconnected on a daily basis. It is also one of the reasons that I will never buy any BLIZZARD product ( WoW in particular ) and no longer play their games. They let Bots clog the servers and their support for their games is aweful. There are a ton of games out there for players to chose from and your average player will only sit and stand for so much Lagg, cheat issues and lack of support from the companies that make the games. Give a player the usual " We are working on it please be patient and nothing gets fixed " will lose you fans and customers. I think this should be something you should mention to those in the front office. Anet provides a service to it's fans and players and right now that service is lacking.

Of all the online games I have played though GW has been my favorite and with the hours I have logged on my acct you could say it is more like a hobby. Please keep us posted here and on the official site of what happened to cause the issues and what is being done to fix them. The support this game has been shown, the events, ect. has been exceptional up to now please don't let the Lagg issue continue to be a problem and it surely isn't something only effecting Europe.

It seems, it is something that mainly occurs during (my = GMT+2) evening hours. Between 7 and 9 PM it starts, don't know when it ends. On afternoons, especially today, I could play fine, no ping issues whatsoever, or at least nothing serious. On evenings (when usually more people from my guild gather to do stuff), nothing works, average pings in the four to seven thousands.
I'll see that I get that checked again, and then I guess I should send it to support, shouldn't I? Report on when it occurs and when not?

*sigh* As of about an hour ago, Network let us know that there appear to be a number of players who are experiencing lag again. They are gathering reports and support tickets to try to track why this may be happening, for the maintenance early this morning in Germany was felt to be a real step forward.

Hopefully this is just a small glitch, but we're tracking and if you have new reports to share, please feel free to do so.

Well i have finally been reading the forums about this.
Just one question Gaile that i would really like an answer on, after the lag finally has been resolved will there be some sort of reward for people experiencing lag for almost 3 weeks.

I really like GW and played for 2689 hours and 21 minutes (just a couple hours less i guess if you remove afk time) in 9 months.
And those last 3 weeks in a row, really started to kill the fun i had playing.

I have lots of friends who play in european districts where i have the lag, so they come to international where i dont have lag and they start lagging overthere. (so no way of playing together)

Greetings,
The Emunator

P.S. I really hope this lag will be solved soon because GW is one of the best rpg's i played, keep up the good work.
