Doesn't mean anything for Guild Wars, though. Sony probably wants to cash in on Tabula Rasa.

yeah i know and hopefully ncsoft will never ask anet to do a gw on console... but still kinda huge and in effort of support for NCsoft i just wanted to post an interesting business deal. that could actually kinda revolutionize console gamin in a sense . I used to play mine but now only when the gf wants to run a race on MOST WANTED or something ...or God of War 2. RPGs on the console are bout half dead when compared to an online community , one reason i quit playin my consoles, so its nice to know atleast SONY is lookin forward and tryin to think outside the box and think ahead and even outsource to a company thats being successful as NCsoft is at this time.

Remember what happened when Sony Online Entertainment bought out Star Wars Galaxies? Vanguard: Saga of Heroes?
Exactly.

Guild Wars 2 distributed on a Bluray Disc.
Lotrfish
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This better not effect any future Guild Wars products (I'm looking at you GW2). If GW2 comes out on the PS3 (4?) I will no longer buy it. I think I'm starting to feel sick...

Seems like an odd choice for NC Soft, since Sony's online system is a mess. Going with Microsoft, hell, even Nintendo would have made much more sense.
Personally though, I wouldn't have a problem if Guild Wars was released on consoles, assuming it didn't effect the PC version of the game. Too many PC gamers have an elitist attitude were they see console gamers as beneath them, that's something that really annoys me.
I don't exactly see how you can think this would "revolutionise" console gaming either. There have been MMO's on consoles for years, this is nothing new, or groundbreaking.

Heh. This was mentioned during Sony's E3 Conference today. I about jumped out of my clothes when I heard it. (Bad analogy. :P) The first thing I thought was Guild Wars 2 on PS3. Once Sony (Again, assuming they do. :P) gets its act together (home launched and running) and a decent bit of games, a lower price (the price cut still wasnt enough), then folks will latch onto it. As of right now, the PS3 doesn't have a mmorpg on it and frankly it could use one. Guild Wars 2 would be perfect.
I suppose I could continue rambling aimlessly about what ifs. Only time will tell what Sony plans to do with NcSoft. If they do plan on a GW for Ps3, we should hear something within a year. (or less)
*waits patiently*

Good deal for both sides really. NCSoft gets to teach Sony how to make MMOs and NcSoft can now possibly start putting their products on consoles if they wish. Everyone makes money here I think

i think its a bit much and too soon to say they would do any current games , however i dont believe it would be Gw2 by anymeans ..probably all new games all together . but as someone already stated its a nice deal for both sides to learn from one another and make some dough.

If thay make a GW for consoles, they are shooting themselves in the foot. I would not even think about purchasing anymore NC products.

This particular phenomenon has killed many promising games and game series in the past, I'd hate to see it happen to GW.

Ditto for Deus Ex. None of that was due to the game being released on consoles, after all Morrowind was released virtually untouched on the Xbox and was one of the best selling games on the system, they had no need to simplify the game for consoles, it was purely to appeal to a bigger audience.
PC gamers just seem to enjoy having something to blame when a game doesn't meat their expectations. I'm sure anyone who's studied marketing can back me up.

Phantasy Star: Online was pretty cool.
That was pretty much an online Diablo, though. Not really an MMORPG - but still totally kickass.
Whoa there tiger. Calm down. What seems to be the problem?

Taken from Gamespot summary of PS E3 at:
I'm pretty happy with this announcement, and look forward to seeing GW2 on the PC and PS3. It's only a lot of speculation at this point, but it does seem like it could happen.
So many people are caught up in the xbox 360 and Wii hype. Despite the high price the PS3 is still the best gaming console out there. The Wii got boring for me in about 1 hour, and I'll never get over how much I hate the Xbox controllers, and how much Microsoft rushes out unfinished consoles. That leaves the PS3 as the only console I'm willing to drop money on (once I save some money and the price comes down). To play GW2 on the PC I'd probably need to do some heavy upgrading or buy a new one so it might be more affordable to me to buy a PS3. I'm just hoping for mouse and keyboard support! If I had to play GW2 with my thumbs I'd probably shoot myself.

Morrowind was a popular game, on both the PC and consoles, but one of the biggest complaints it received, is that a lot of people found it difficult to follow and navigate around in. Thus, Oblivion simplified a lot of features, and included mechanics to hold the players hand, such as the compass and fast travel.

The same motivation that results in a game being simplified (A), namely an interest in appealing to a broader gaming market (C), is also the motivation for making a formerly PC-exclusive title available on consoles (B). Therefore, when one sees a company moving in the direction of making a game available on consoles, one has reason to be concerned that it may be dumbed down as well. That is, A is not necessarily caused by B, B is not necessarily caused by A, but A and B are correlated because they are both symptoms of C. Observing A or B is then reason to fear that the other will occur shortly. Fair?

GW2 isn't Morrowind.
The functionality they've talked about so far (context sensitive actions, more freedom of movement, etc) would be great on a PS3 with the standard controller.
I'm betting GW2 on the PS3 would be mass fun.
I wonder if you would be able to rent GW2 at GameFly, etc. With a PVP system that doesn't require unlocks, there'd have to be a way to make that work.

Maybe they'll make that NCsoft flying game for consoles.

i hope they dont start running ncsoft MMOs on SoE servers T.T their patcher is so horrible to me
WinterSnowblind
Like I said, I wouldn't mind seeing GW on consoles, more people being able to play the game isn't bad. However, they did say they were making exclusive games for the PS3. And the biggest point everyone seems to be missing, is just how terrible the PS3's online service is, if you thought MMO's were bad on consoles before, then they're going to be bloody awful on the PS3. Yes, unlike the 360, it may be a free system, but there's a very noticable draw back of that. $50 a year for a good system, isn't too much to ask, in my opinion.
I'd much rather just plug my 360 controller into the PC and use that for GW2.

Riot Narita
Bring on the console players! If GW became the first big MMO game on PS3, we could see millions of new players online (assuming they don't get their own online worlds to play in). They would be completely clueless about PvP, and even if they weren't - most of them would be crippled by using a console controller...
...They would be cannon fodder, and that means EASY titles for the PC users!!! Even *I* (utterly rubbish at PvP) might get some PvP titles!!!

Remember SWG and what Sony did with it? Yes? You want that to happen to GW as well? NCsoft can team up with whoever they want, as long as they leave Anet alone.
And the PS3 PAL is a piece of crap, get the NTSC counterpart it's cheaper and better in every way.

I’m sorry but I hope this does not pass A-net, so they will support them on every project. Sony is just playing snobbish, undermining, and a horrid business associates to have. Yes I am being biased, but not one thing has come out of Sony that has some type of originality to it. In the last year or so they have caught nothing that signals “invention” all over it. Now NC Soft is actually thinking about joining up with the biggest crook since EA games went on a binge over sucking up other talented industries, so they could make a quick buck. That’s not evolution, it’s devastation waiting to happen.
Elruid
Sony is the MMO-killer.

oh and sony taking it over is the main reason I never got into vanguard. I was in the beta, and sony took it over halfway through, and I could never connect again because of the launchpad.

I got a flash for some of you: Guild Wars 2 will never in a million years be released on a console. It's just as unlikely as World of Warcraft on Xbox 360. LOL
Mordakai
It says exclusive PS3 MMORPGS.
Guild Wars 2 will not be an exclusive PS3 title.

It certainly looks like no one at all actually read the press release.
Saying things like "oh no Sony will ruin GW!!!!" is retarded at best.

I came across this, and I can only hope at this point it is wrong..

The part that scares me..
"This appears to include all future games from NCSoft, all you who are waiting for Lineage 3 with bated breath may need to start checking into PS3s."
I think at this point a word from the devs to ease our pain would be welcome.
