GW2: What do YOU expect it to feature?
Lord-UWR
Hello Everyone,
As you all know, GW2 is coming in a year or two, and it will be AMAZING. However, as always, I'm sure Arena.Net will appreciate some input from the community. Therefore, I like to put in MY input, and ask everyone here to write THEIR Desired Features in here as well. I will personally UPDATE the list as new Ideas flows in. PLEASE, keep the ideas POSSIBLE, and DO-ABLE. AND PLEASE DO NOT CRITICIZE OTHER PEOPLE'S IDEAS, NO FLAMES EITHER.
THE LIST:
1- Better Graphics and Physics Engine: Anet has done an amazing job with GW so far, but in two years, they have enough time to even MAKE an engine, if resources allow them to do so. Accordingly, GFX Cards will also improve, and will the computers, so not being able to, for example, support and improve upon DX10 is a mistake. Also, the lack of a Z-axis in GW right now limits what players and Anet can do with the game, so when I read they are working on a new engine (foundations based on current engine), I was excited at features such as JUMP, Slide, Climb, and Swim, perhaps even FLY!!!
2- An Improved Combat System: I recently watched this video of Aion (another game by NCSoft), which shows the combat system used in the game. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/s...3/videoId/1073
Since this game is coming out by the end of 2007, I personally expect Anet to come up with a combat system that matches and surpasses others games of the genre. It has already been stated that the Combat System is greatly improved in the May edition of PC Gamer.
3- Environmental Effects: Since GW2 will have persistent areas, there should be some environmental effects such as Weather changes, Natural Disasters, or something of this variety. Day and Night cycles should also be incorporated.
4- A limit of Health and Energy: Although the level cap is said to be quite high, maybe even Unlimited, there should be cap on the Health and Energy of players, whether PVP, or PVE, so AT LEAST some form of balance is maintained.
5- An Improved HUD/Interface: As many of you might agree, the current Interface is bulky, and hard to manage at times. A less messy and more INTACT interface should be used for GW2.
6- Different Controls: Make a more realistic control system, which at least surpasses the common click-move-attack system.
7- A balanced game (skills and PvP): Right now, there are an enormous number of skills, which of duplicate of each other, and some that may vary VERY slightly. So if Anet is going to implement skills in the game, they should remove the useless and extra skills, and add skills that can be observed and balanced. Just because they CAN add more skills, does not mean they SHOULD.
8- Challenging PvE: Currently, with Hard Mode, only level of monsters and the number of skills they have has increased. They should use a better AI, maybe a FPS AI for that matter, and make PvE more exciting and challenging, worth playing ALL parts at least.
9- More Guild Options: Better things a guild can do with its members, other than GvG.
10- Attributes: Currently, the Two profession system works perfectly. With the addition of races, hopefully, the second profession is not removed. As stated in PC Gamer, the races will have a certain UNIQUE ATTRIBUTE, and Anet better not make them unbalanced, so people would be attracted to ONLY one race.
11- Instanced and Persistent: The balance between instanced and persistent areas should be kept. People who prefer to play Solo or Group should be able to take advantage of it all.
12- Improved Communication: Currently the CHAT, and TRADE system has problems, and even Anet admits they cannot do anything about it NOW. So Auction Houses (a vital trade system to any MMORPG or CORPG as Anet puts it) and an improved Chat system should be used. HAIR STYLISTS presence in the game is a MUST.
This list IS updated with YOUR ideas and suggestions. DO NOT MOVE THIS TO ANOTHER FORUM PLEASE. IT IS VITAL THAT IT REMAINS IN HERE, PLEASE.

Improved Graphics, animations, physics and a z axis. Bad PvP balance.

Do you mean it is bad now, it should be better in GW2, or it should be bad in GW2. I personally believe they should seriously dedicate a group from the community to help them balance it, like Blizzard has done for many of their games, such as Starcraft and Starcraft II. Moreover, I don't like the idea of only two options of PVP, just the World vs. World, and a form of GvG.

Aslong as they fix was doesnt work, DONT change what does and improve upon visuals, interface and controls, i'll be happy.
Dont fix what isnt broken in my view.

I hope WvW turns out like they make it out to be. I'm expecting it to turn into something like AB.
Decent PvE
Something to do other than farm.
Cool looking things that require more than just gold.
Challenge.
Separated PvP and PvE skills.
More for guilds to do.
Decent selection of skills, instead of 100 good 2000 crap.
Quests with rewards that are suitable for someone over level 5.
Better enemies....2 skills, level 30 ftl.
Too many other things

I like this version of GW...there are many aspects I wouldn't want to see drastically change. I'm sorely hoping they wont go and destroy the game in a feeble bid to make it look "cooler" when there's nothing wrong with it when the bring out GW:2
Expectations of GW:2:
- Wammo is still a "viable" class, and skills such as Mending, Frenzy and Healsig are still in the game. A game without wammos would be very boring...I need something to hunt, blind, and generally poke fun at!
Hyaon
I expect it to not lag :P

Bring on player empires, assassinations, battles over resources, terror, court intrigues, plundering, blood feuds, etc.!

Day and night cycles.
Being able to save and conitnue mission instances. (I know that one won't sit well with a lot of people, but often I have to do missions in 10 min at a time due to real live occurences. Leaving the game running tp be able to continue is bad for the environment)

Source?
I too hope that this isn't true. While in some ways it does make sense that one species(I dislike using the term race in relation to this because we have Charr, Norn, Asura, Sylvari..different species IMO) has some added benefit or drawback to a profession, I don't want to choose a Norn and be told that I can only play a warrior type profession..whether it be developer or player community.
to stay On topic:
I would like to still see instance areas that I can explore by myself with hero/henchman (or whatever version of the sort GW2 has) be kept around. I know they are going for a mix of persistent (which I do like too..be nice to see people outside of towns) and instance, but I hope one does not out number the other.

Well, as far as I know they remove the click-to-move thing to get more flexible movements, like swim and jump.
Auction House would be nice, and please. Separate PvE skills and PvP skills so PvP/PvE nerfs don't affect each other.

Lord-UWR
People, as previously stated, DO NOT criticize other people's IDEAS and OPINIONS. This has nothing to to with Anet, and whether it will actually take place in the game or not. It is simply a way for people to input their expectations, so MAYBE Anet will take notice.
PS: I will edit the list above by soon, just have to finish my portfolio. XD

Do NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CRITICIZE, or mock ANY Ideas or Opinions. WHY can't people understand that? If you think an idea is inappropriate, or unlikely, just GIVE YOUR OWN idea, and share it with the rest of us. Even if it is a sarcastic statement, make it along with your own idea.

Phantom Gun
My list is small and simple, but here it is.
1. Keep the Ritualist
2. Weather/Day and Night Change "Or just weather".
3. Stuff to do when You don't feel like doing quests or pvp.
That's it.

Pandora's box
There's a big difference between what I HOPE it will be and what I EXPECT it to be...
What I HOPE for:
-A seperated skill/balance system between PvE and PvE.
-Unlimited leveling in PvE including unimited growth in power if items to be found, no capping of health or other attributes etc.
-A power game for PvE players with a huge world to explore, like a real MMORPG...
-Lots of gold and gear to drop and the abillity of playing it solo without being punnished with low droprates.
-The game released 'as it is' with only a few patches to get rid of bugs, but no changes in gameplay (no nerfs).
What I EXPECT and am afraid of:
-High levels will be a joke because its not related with powergaming but merely the same gameplay as we know it with only levels and some fancy titles added but no extra health or high level gear... Same caps on skills to keep it 'balanced', low droprates so you can play on forever without ever maxing out stuff unless you have a bot to farm...
-Anet paternalizing like before with nerfs to keep players far away from the feeling to have an 'Uber Build'...

HardWonFame
What a bunch of whiners...
I EXPECT...
- A great mesh of both persistent and instanced environments, areas for people to congregate in and do things in large groups, as well as smaller mission/quest areas for single parties.
- Improved graphics engine and z-axis movement, support for DX10, better animations and an improved emote system.
- New combat system, possibly with the addition of z-axis movement we could see some character-creature interaction like that seen in Shadow of the Colossus.
- In-depth trading system, an auction house or some other system.
- integrated voice communication
- new, improved UI.
and the list goes on... its going to be great.

I expect loot scaling, regular build nerfs, and spamming sales in all chat. After all, it's still built off of the GW1 Engine (yes, it's a fact, read your PCGamer). I'll probably still play the freakin thing tho.

I'm expecting cool animations - and it's going to stay at that. I'm awesome at not expecting a whole lot. It's the main reason why I was one of the few that actually loved Fable.

Ok keep them coming people, gonna update the list right now with some of the great ideas noted here.
SeraphimSkye
Bigger Bosses.
Longer Story.
More, much more, pvp stuff that has something to do with Luxons and the Kurzicks, we have fort aspenwood and jade quarry and AB, MOAR.
More classes.
Gigantic attacks, like for example, the ele skill meteor , a giant meteor smashes into the ground and for paragons, epic spear throws, think Leonidas versus Xerxes epic. Oh yeah also, some kind of level which is dynasty warriors- esque where you are faced with loads of npcs, screw it, I WANT 300 IN GUILD WARS.

I've recently started a new Elementalist, hoping this will not die from lagging issue once again. Anyway, that's not the point,
This is: While playing the new Elementalist starting out from pre-sear, I've discover that I love doing quests, also love those quest where you "stumble upon" outside of town. And I started to think, if there's going to be a persistant world in GW2, new non-primary quests should be added every now and then, since quests are mostly given by townies that seek your (the hero's) help it is only logical that there are other townies that will in one time or other need some help and this is where the "new quests" come in.
Secondly, regarding character creation, we are all familiar with rpg game, where when you start out you get to choose a prefession and this profession will look a certain way, elementalist has one look, comes with sets of hairstyle and facial features. and et cetera.
so what i am thinking is this: a system where there's different races as GW2 will have, there will be male and female logically, however there will not be any different between elementalist and warrior, or warrior and ranger. Meaning: players gets to choose the Race, the Sex, the height, and build (thin, frail, fragile, sickly, strong, mascular, et cetera) for your character, and that's it, you do not have to look like any type of profession just yet, your character will be one that you crafted, much like making a sim character. And it could possibly be looking like yourself in real life. Now, when you start out in the game with this newly build character, you can visit a barber shop, a fashion shop, et cetera for your personal preferred look, Once you start questing, this is where your profession looks comes in. There will be no need to change profession, (with this system there'll be no need for character slots lol ) read on, new paragraph for easy read
basically, your character will progress and there will be a lot of quests where you train your character into becoming your "preferred" profession of choice. Lets call this quests "the warrior path", "the elementalist path" et cetera. so you can choose to venture into the new GW2 world as elementalist + warrior, so you'll be looking for quest givers of warrior + elementalist path. and the fun part is there will be no stars on the map for you to follow, you'll have to look for it. you may or may not find it, you prabably will stumble upon other profession's path, you can choose to do that as well. and then finally when you are successful as an E/W or R/N or Rt/E you will then be able to visit the local armorer to craft your armor of your preferred profession, and you can craft armor for other profession for this very character when you have done all the other profession's path as well. (storage comes to mind, we will be needing a wardrobe, please and thank you)
bleh, i think i don't want to think any more, so there it is. because it becoming another game all together... rofl anyway. there it is...since someone asks.

I have only one hope (not so much an expectation):
That GW2 has decent skills. Emergent complexity is a good idea, but please do a professional job about coding, documenting, and maintaining skills. If their quality is the same as GW1 skills, I am afraid it will be a grand disappointment.

Hopefully the interactive environments from the BMP/junundu will be largely expanded.
I wan't my hammer warrior to be able to topple ruins on my foes and my ele to freeze pools of water.
Also give rangers a skill that utilises the environment to cause different conditions such as a throw dirt type effect on a dirt path or a daze effect from throwing nearby rocks. Something liek that implemented properly would make positioning much more important in game rather than a simple press 1 foe=dazed.
I'd like a few challenges added to some instances like disabling the compass so you cant see foes patrols.
And most importantly, PvE foes to use decent skillbars and AI simmilar to PvP play, making it impossible to even try to tank the game. That combined with well designed maps and skills that use your environment would make everything much more interesting in my opinion.

--More and better dungeons/instances
--"Halfway Save Point" Outposts in longer dungeons so you can run them in two sittings or on different days if you want to or need to

--Better/more chat options
--Better/more storage options
--Auction House
--In-Game mail
--More random events and bosses in both instances and persistent areas (random mob types and skill sets, occasional rare bosses and drops, etc.)
More a list of hopes than what I really expect ... but we'll see.

I want GW2 to be alive.
I want the world to change depending on character's actions (with buildable houses, for example).
Most of all, I want quests that matter: No more kill "x" and get "y."
I want GW2 to revolutionize online gaming.
