Too easy to get to 20 now?
notskorn
This thread is about a year and 3 months late. Its been easy to get to level 20 ever since factions was released in April of 2006.

well granted yes being able to make a character and be lvl 20 in the same day is great and whatever i did like the old prophecies grind of playing through the missions with henchies around the same general lvl as me and actually having something of a challenge. when factions came out there was this mass horde of lvl 20 assassins who bought the game a day or two after it released and now we had the noob wars with assassins acting like theyre uber leet and been playing forever when in fact....they havent. anyrate back in old school prophecies being lvl 20 usually ment 1 of two things. 1 you did lots of grinding or lots of questing and thus you are decently experienced or 2 you got a powerleveler. but normally buying a power leveler ment you have a character already thats lvl 20 with money....or you ebayed.

Prophicies is the best of all 3 mainly cuz well that is where I started factions seemed rushed and really wasnt for the "newcomers" but Night fall was a mix of both the fast way of lvling from Factions but a fairly good storyline from proph, it still is the same amount of work no matter what someone does, it just seems like it doesn't because everyone that has 2+ chars has done the same stuff more than 2 times in which you find shorter ways to get around the map (aka runs and knowing the terrain/paths to take) and what not because you dont spend time exploring (unless your going for explorer title) most folks just do what needs to be doen to get to lvl 20 to get into the good stuff.
Fates
Prophecies used to be very easy to lvl 20. Get run from ascalon to the desert. Get 2 desert missions run, guildies for the 3rd, empathy on dopple, dodge arrows, poof lvl 20. Did it in less than 4 hours. Too bad they changed the dopple to 50k xp.
Also used to be able to go to UW and FoW before ascention. Do a run in there with guildies and you'd be lvl 20 in no time.

As a Factions player first, I found Prophecies much, much too slow to level. I'm all for the higher, sudden learning curve.

i don't really see it being easy to level up as a bad thing . i would rather not spend ages leveling up to be honest . If your a higher level quicker , then you get to vanquish / do hard mode quicker as well . not to mention farm alot better than if you were lower than lvl 20

IMO, the whole level system is sort of a joke. The game does indeed begin at level 20, but before that, it's more of an annoyance, spending a couple of hours to get through baby mode to the actual game you paid money for.
The way GW1 is, you should just start at level 20. Or better yet, have no such thing as levels. The only real thing keeping Guild Wars from that is the necessity to look at something and be able to tell how strong of an opponent it is in PvE. And letting people kill Aloes in one hit in pre-searing, I guess. Guild Wars is all about what skills you have, not about what level you are, and it's not as though you start with every skill in the game.
While I appreciate the ability to compete with anyone, no matter how many game hours they've logged, Guild Wars' level system is relatively pointless. Thankfully it sounds like they're fixing that in GW2, allowing people to compete across levels while still having the system at least seem relevant after the first five hours of putting in the game CD.

Do you people remember when beating the doppelganger meant getting instant level 20, and then someone made a video of them beating it at level 3 with dodging + self damaging (to the doppel) skills?
That's what it used to take to get to level 20.

Factions and nightfall fail on those fronts.
In factions, if you dont reach level 20 by the time your at the main land you cant really progress until your get max armor and more skills etc etc.
Nightfall is a bit better, but it falls under the same issue. You have to level up to 20 before you hit the main land or your cant progress because its too hard.
They try to cover that up by giving more experience and rushing your level up, but that doesnt mean your experienced. It just means you have done less quests and missions to attain level 20.
In prophercies you have a much better learning curve and chance to develop skill and ability as you progress. The pase is perfect in terms of learning curve and developing your knowledge and ability.
But if your an experienced player, then its fine to jump into factions and nightfall because you can probably handle your own. But for new players, I would always recommend prophercies as a better learning tool.

Guild Wars being a "grind" to 20? It never was. Example of grind: World Of Warcraft.
